My favorite thing about this game is that they all go into it thinking "this will be ironically good" and by the end they're all like "oh my god this game is amazing."
The next person to meet Charles Martinet at a con, please, PLEASE get him to say the line "I will hypnotise the rhythmless masses with my moves!" in Waluigi's voice and record it.
I like how the whole game has people trying to sabotage you with their mechanics to make up for their bad dancing, and then YOU have to sabotage BOWSER because his moves are too good to beat legitimately.
1:09:07 "Cabin fever. That doesn't sound healthy. That's usually what leads to you wanting to murder someone." Well, it's a song from Mario Party. Why do you think they called it that?
+RLYoshi because Mario Party can make people kill each other, and have cabin fever...I think. Then again, Mario Party is a game of friendship destroyers...so...yeah...
God, I just about died laughing when Always Smiling came up. Just a freaking anime intro song out of nowhere in a Mario dancing game. Jon's non-reaction to it was great as well. And then Bowser's sweet dance moves happened and things somehow got better. It's just too bad the chat's reaction couldn't be recorded.
Plot in Red Dead Redemption? Eh, not bad. Plot in The Last of Us? Eh, it's alright. Plot in Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix? UN-FUCKING-BEATABLE. This game shall be remembered for starting the _Dance-Dance ex machina_ trope: whenever a character has a problem, dancing will always make it go away.
"Starring Wario" really should have been one of Wario's themes in Smash. It's pretty much THE song I associate with Wario. I kind of wish Smash had more Wario Land songs, instead of just Warioware. They'd still fit his stage pretty well.
SSB 4 WiiU has a theme from Wario Land: Shake It Up! Does that count, even though he's basically lost any and all semblance of Wario Lamd in his moveset?
No. There's at least two other WarioWare themes that are new to Smash: Gamer and a new WarioWare medley (which has Cricket's theme in it, so that's cool).

The almighty foe of Dance Dance Revolution, CHUGGAACONROY! His ultimate goal is to get rid of everyone's ability to sing and and dance and give it to himself so he isn't so tone deaf. Of course Jon would wreck Chugga's true goal, because he's Jon and he sings the asshole song, and he couldn't sing that if Chugga took his singing ability. Suddenly this plot makes so much sense..
Lexie Pound I feel like Chugga's tone deafness might just be so severe the collective rhythm of everyone might not even counter balance it. Maybe Rhythm has a Yin-Yang thing, and Chugga just got tone deafness for half the world.
I cannot put into words how much this stream means to me, and not just cause the game itself was somethign I grew up with. I was there for the livestream (I was the one in the chat who said they had a mario dance pad!) and ever since it's been a core memory for me, staying up until way-too-late-the-night-before-finals and not once regretting it. Thank you for everything you've done Jon, I've never really been a twitch person but your streams still managed to give me so many of my most vivid childhood memories.
According to GAMEFAQS, if you press A 5 times, then B four times, on the title screen, you can play as Waluigi, If you do A four times and B five times, you get Wario.

Proton Jon In re: the topic of why Superman 64 was so important, I can tell you from my own experience. It was the first video I'd seen from you and in my opinion, also the best. As I recall.. you were talking pretty much the whole time. And you had.. just so much to say about it. Not just about the glitches. But the analysis, backstory, explanation of how it came to be.. It was pretty awesome that you knew all of this and gave it more character than just being a terrible game made by stupid people and you did a damn fine job in presentation. So I hope you do that with more games. And I do hope we get to see the end of the series some day.
The reason World 5-1 was "Always Smiling" instead of an actual Mario song is because Bowser had already harnessed the power of true DDR! There definitely needs to be another Mario DDR, and this time the plot should be that Wario kidnaps the Dancer Avatars from the other DDR games so he can open a musical theme park where he will play amazing music on the speakers to distract customers long enough for them to overstay the visit they paid for so they have to pay more. To integrate story into gameplay, you shouls be able to play songs inside and outside of the theme park, and if you play two or more songs in a row within the theme park, you pay 50 coins for every song after the first.

Don't know if you ever figured this out in your stream or anything, but, in Japanese rhythm games, you tend to be playing for a percentage of some sort of perfect score. For instance, in Theatrhythm, you have an all-9s score to go for, for hitting all notes at perfect timing. It's the same with DDR. The score you're going for is higher depending on your difficulty and the song. So, in this game, all perfects on normal on that one song gave you 100% of 20,000,000 points, or 20,000,000 points... to be redundant. One difference is Project Diva, where each note is worth a set amount of points, and your judgment rating determines the points you get, so the score's different for each song and feels a lot less random. I haven't seen any western rhythm game that goes with the pseudo-random scores that DDR does for some reason.
Just in case you cared enough to read this, Project Diva DOES have a percentage-based sort of thing. Every note you hit with a perfect or great timing gives you some grade points. It's basically whichever percentage of the song the note is, minus 11. 89 grade points are earned from just notes, and there are 3 earned from each technical zone, and 5 earned from chance times, for a total of 100. So, I think it's more of a middle ground. That bit just occurred to me.
LaughingThesaurus: Just Dance uses basically the same scoring system as DDR, except without a combo bonus. You've got different ratings for each move, Perfect, Good, Okay and X ("Miss"). Each rating is worth a different percentage of the maximum score, the total of which is an arbitrary 13.000 points for all songs. So, yeah, Just Dance has basically the exact same system as DDR, except there's only 4 ratings and there's no combo bonus.
Philip Wester I don't think DDR really has a combo bonus. Like if you break your combo on one note right in the middle where it'd hurt the most, it still doesn't hurt you nearly as much as it should. But it's also a dancing game, and it's about how well you actually simulate the move, so it makes sense for a more judgment-based system, as opposed to just judging your timing.
LaughingThesaurus: As someone who played DDR competitively for years, I know f or a fact that there is, in fact, a combo bonus. You'll notice this clearly if you end a game with the same number of Perfects, Greats, etc., etc. as the other player as most of the time, you'll have wildly different scores depending on where you broke your combo and/or where you got those non-Marvellouses, etc. The combo bonus isn't huge, but it definitely exists. EDIT: Voila: aaronin.jp/ddr2.html
Philip Wester Oh, okay. I didn't play it competitively. I guess I tend to break my combo in the same place a lot. It also probably varies between games.
Well, thats a good almost 2hrs of my life well spent :D. But seriously, lly want this game now, it looks so good....even though I watched you play through the whole game and I know the plot now...uh yeah
45:17 I have played this game with a dance pad and completed it before on easy. You wanna know what easy mode is? As far as I can remember, there's no stage hazards like the goombas or the mines. It's just maybe 1-2 two arrows on screen at a time.
...huh. Actual discussion of spirituality (however vague) in the Marioverse. Interesting...I mean, there's an afterlife in Paper Mario, but that seems to be a physical realm...if I recall correctly.

I love how Lakitu in the beginning called the Koopa Troopas kids. The concept just sounds so weird
It's just maybe 1-2 two arrows on screen at a time.
i loved the stream when i was on it. It was one of the best streams in a while for my opinion.
i have watched this like 1000 times already just because this
...huh. Actual discussion of spirituality (however vague) in the Marioverse. Interesting...I mean, there's an afterlife in Paper Mario, but that seems to be a physical realm...if I recall correctly.
it is
You are talking about Super paper Mario, right? Or is that in the original as well?
I'm pretty sure SPM
Daisy Deluxe Yeah, that's what I thought.
I was hoping we'd see Jon dance.
