Nice summary. You forgot about the conditional (If I you) and the subjunctive (He asks that she ). Also, the choice of tenses is more about the time, not the action. 2:07 We use the past simple to talk about the past. We don't need to talk about any action (I was not happy yesterday, I did nothing yesterday), if we do, the action does not need to be finished (I did not finish my homework yesterday). 2:57 We use the present perfect to talk about a period of time that ends now. We do not need to talk about any action (He has been very happy lately, he has done nothing since yesterday). 6:20 We use the future simple to talk about the future, whether we talk about an action or not (Tomorrow will be another sunny day) 7:10 We use the present continuous to talk about what is going on now, but again, not necessarily about any action (You are being rude. Nothing is going on). The lines are from "Leaving on a Jet Plane" by John Denver. 8:21 We use the past continuous to talk about what was going on at a specific moment in the past, but not necessarily about any action (he was being unreasonable this morning) 11:16 Again we do not have to use the past perfect to talk about any action: before she showed up
You are one of my favorite teachers from whom i have been learning English and do not miss watching any videos so as to enhance my English knowledge. Thank you very much sir. I'm Zubair Al mahmud from Bangladesh.
Hi Wes , I have been staying English off and on from several teachers by Facebook and UA-cam and I’m not sure how to use all that tenses . Thank you so much for this lesson 👍🙏 .
It's not always so easy to master the three tenses with all their helpers ! You lesson is a very good reminder and for me an practice to hear English spoken. I've just realized, by watching this video, that I understand you better and better. I'll come again to your channel : I love it ! 220218 glé
The song is sung by Peter, Paul and Mary (1969), it's rained a lot since then but the melody gets maintained cool, which means always was a marvellous title.👌
Thanks for commenting. You're partially correct. The song was originally sung by John Denver in 1966, and then Peter, Paul, and Mary did a cover a few years later. 👍
Impressive the resourcefulness of the video, a dignified and wonderful work to be applauded, you impo ress in the creation of your content for your theme. Good nice
Respected sir, being the most celebrated grammarian across the globe, you are earnestly entreated with folded hands to enlighten me a bit as to the nuances of the the following two sentences on the concept of Tense-The passengers of the train had been sleeping when the accident happened VS They were sleeping fast when the train accident happened.Sir, Until now not a single grammarian has been able to explain the subtitles and differencesimplied in the two sentences.Sir,do please help me out by providing solution to the issue that has baffled so many grammarians and teachers so far.
Merry Christmas. I have another question to ask. I often get confused about what to use between " should do" and "should be doing". Like you used in the sentence before (media should be doing). Some teachers say that one should use "should be doing" when talking about the current situation but I think there is something I have not been told. I recently came across a video titled " that's how you should be brushing" by a native dentist. Why did he not use " that's how you should brush"? Hope you help me with my doubt.
You're right that "should be doing" would refer to a continuous action in the present. As for the video title, either would work. The continuous emphasizes "right now" while the present simple refers to a "routine." 👍
Hello sir, I have a question. "Of all the movies I have watched so far, this movie is the best, which other movies are as nothing compared to" and " He has already befriended Joey, who no other boy in the college can hold a candle to" . Are these sentences grammatically correct and do they make sense?
Hello teacher, can I propose a few words, which are confusing to me, because they can have seemingly opposite meanings depending on the context: 1. "contend" - could mean both "compete" and "come to terms with" as well as "assert". 2. "all but" - can mean both "almost" and "anything except". For example if I hear, "it was all but impossible", I always stumble to figure out the meaning. Was it very hard to do, almost impossible? Was it quite easy, bearable?
Leaving on a Jet Plane by John Denver is the answer to your question 😜. And thanks so much for this Wonderful Video 💢 Every tense is explained Cristal Clear!!. Hi, Wes. The song with the lyric "I'm leaving on a jetplane. I don't know when I'll be back again" is sung by Chantal Kreviazuk. And that's the song from the movie that I like titled "The Armageddon". Am I right or wrong ?

Welcome to the channel. In this case, definitely familiarize yourself with the test. In my view, it's one of those study to the test moments and not necessarily studying the overall language. Best of luck! 👍

Isn't Subjuntive considered a tense in English?
Yes, there's always a debate as to whether there are 12 or 16 tenses. I'm not firmly in any camp. In this lesson, I just wanted to cover the basics. 👍
