Any suggestions for another "Before He Was a Champion" video?
MDJ Brian Scalabrine.
Any of the big 3 Celtics, maybe a video on all together
Or the obvious Michael Jordan

It’s crazy if Dirk didn’t win in 2011 he’d be called an overrated choker but that one championship changed everything...
Might have been the most meaningful and impressive playoff championship run in NBA history. He beat: prime Kobe, up and coming Durant, Westbrook, prime LeBron, Wade, and Bosh.
And people try and argue that championships don’t matter
its the way he won it, look at his numbers in the playoffs and the game winners.. just insane
@@TinkyTooscan the Mavericks didn't face the Spurs in 2011. The Spurs lost their series to the Grizzlies in the first round.
Yh he'd be a choker but still great. Ewing, drexler level. 2011 made him legendary
:') Dirk's career is so special. It's kind of a story we all hope to experience in our own lives. After disappointments, failures, chokes, etc, we hope to have that one day where we finally reach our goal.
Nathan Bixby dude stfu
Because referees hand you a trophy doesn't mean you earn it, ask GSW...
@@tynao2029 maybe you should go and tell that in 2006
The West in the 2000's was so stacked, Dirk getting 50 wins every year from 2001-2011 is another testament to his greatness
Len Walker I was about to say that.
no, it's a testament to an Easy ass West with teams that also lose 50 games a year so the other teams can win
Ty Nao The west was weak in the 2000's?? How old are you?
if people think what the spurs have been doing since 1997 and mavs did from 2001-2011 wasn't impressive ask the wizards who haven't had a 50 win season since the 70's...its not easy man..think about that....
He never really had bad teammates tho
Dirk is the next Steph Curry with a 40 inch vertical.
Wait a minute...
Korzemba!
Wrong channel 😂 love the Korzemba reference tho lmaooo
what's wrong with you clearly he was the next Dirk with 40 inch vertical
@@SaltoDaKid Darko Milicic was Dirk with a 40 inch vertical
Actually, maybe.
The 2003 Mavericks were my favorite team to watch. They were a run and gun team before it was cool. They had Dirk, Michael Finley, Steve Nash and Nick Van Exel. Who knows what happens if Dirk doesn't get dinged in the playoffs against the Spurs that year.
So, in hindsight, the Mavericks finessed two future mvps and hall of famers in the same draft?
yep
Yup. And thanks to that draft. They become a big market, 1 chip, 2 finals, consistent playoffs and have one of the most loyal, beloved player in the NBA.
In short, it works out great. Meanwhile the Oklahoma city, they drafted 3 MVP and future HOF (Durant, Westbrook and Harden) back-to-back.
And lost them all ...
The Oklahoma City could have the big 3, the chips holder, the dynasty... turn out to nothing but a stepping stone for other franchises.
Looks like someone finished their exams LOL
Can't believe I was born the first year Dirk made his first all star appearance. I can't even imagine a league without him. I'm not ready to see a Mavs team without Dirk.
I'm loving the more frequent uploads
Dirk career is like a movie
good vid, just feel like im playing age of empires again haha the throwback
PLEASE MAKE THIS A SERIES. Maybe next episode is before Paul Pierce was a champion
Bandwagon we don’t consider Paul Pierce a champion anymore...
Dirk is why you never speak too soon about rankings
funny how he has not won a playoff series outside of 2011 this decade lol going back to 2009 and only been there 4 times since 2009 ended and has a total of 6 playoff wins in 3 series outside of 2011 lol
@@razkable he was already 33 in 2011 lmao. The guy averages 26 and 10 in the playoffs, I'll take it that the team around him was garbage and not the player himself
That renaissance music getting me hyped!! 😤😤😤
We could have been talking about Dirk potentially having another ring if Cuban didn't go after Dwight in the off season. Tyson Chandler with Dirk was underrated. They had a couple of more good years with each other
Tyson had a resurgence after 2011 ironic enough when he hit his prime ages of 29-30 where I feel he played his best 2 years of his career after 2011 ironic enough..he was seen as a bust before 2011......he was actually fully skilled which is how he made the 2010 fiba team 2011 mavs title as a starting c team 2012 gold medal team dpoy in 2012 and a 2013 all star team ….he was a beast from summer 2010-end of 2013..perfect c of that era
Great video, but personally I would have commented more on just how legendary Dirk's 2011 playoff run was (arguably one of the greatest in NBA history).
Dallas was underdog in every series in 2011.
Once they beat POR, no one expected them to stand a chance against the TWO TIME DEFENDING CHAMPION Lakers, but Dallas absolutely destroyed them, sweeping LA and winning by 40 in game 4.
Against the young OKC thunder Dirk had 48 points in game one missing only 1 shot the entire game and had the greatest single game free throw shooting game in NBA playoff history.
Finally against the HEAVILY favored Miami Heat, Dirk made clutch play after clutch play in virtually every game that series, including the game winning field goal to complete one of the greatest comebacks in finals history, and one of the greatest upsets in finals history.
Pls do a video about me. “Before he lost his hairline: LeBeautiful James”
You always bring a new and interesting perspective, I always love this story with Dirk eventually winning his championship. And excellent top off for an excellent player
i think all the losses can either break a player or strengthen their resolve ..in 2011 sweeping la took a weight off his shoulders I feel..he went through aldridge roy kobe gasol kd russ harden and so when he faced miamis big 3 he didnt flinch....it was typical..he knew he would be outgunned and have to win games in the 4th..its the type of team they had..bend but dont break barley budge late...that skill he showed and patience can only come from years of failure...
10:45 marks the heart wrenching beginning of our near decade long demise 😢
I'd rather have Dirk's career that brings one championship than to have KDs career that may bring many rings.
How about Lebron's career? Cause his and KD's careers are EXACTLY the same...
@@sportschool3537 lebron basically redeem himself then fuck it himself then redeem himself again only to fuck it again now he will always be in the shadow of mj, kobe and kwame brown. Quite the roller coaster i'd say
@@Basedep
lmao Kwame Brown
@@sportschool3537 exactly? Nah KD's move is way worse than lebron. Lebron's decision to gtfo of cleveland is understandable management just cannot get him any strong help hell they didnt want to trade for amare stoudamire just because they thought jj hickson would be a franchise cornerstone
@@winter9242 no no no... it's EXACTLY the same move... both their logic is EXACTLY the same... where do I get the easiest rings possible cause I'm scared that I may end up with zero at the end of my career...
Lebron could have gone to Chicago and pair with Rose and nobody would have said anything... but nooooo... he wanted both Wade and Bosh to make things easier... same with KD... he had other options but he chose the OP easy superteam like Bron did...
You're a bron fan and you're biased af like all Bron fans... the man chased easy rings and he failed ridiculously bad cause having 1 more top 5 player and another top 10 player on your team and winning only 2 out of 4 is an epic failure...
He has his ring, he has his 6th place scoring of all time, all that is waiting for him is the call up to the hall of fame.
2024
Damn if Dirk didn't get injured in the 03 playoffs, he would probably had 2 rings.
mase8705 do u know this man named Tim Duncan ?
Idk about that one chief. Timmy was literal God in 2003.
Probably the Kings would have. Webber hurt his knee in that series against the Mavs
idk man. timmy had a quad double in the finals if the refs are not blind and called timmy's 2 blocked shots goaltending. 2003 playoff run is the best playoff run I have seen.
@@tomascbonez6355 Mavs went 7 game against the Spurs with Dirk injured, but the Kings went 7 game against the Mavs with Webber injured. The Kings should be the favourite.

The best basketball page on UA-cam!
Other than the Heat, the Spurs, Suns, and especially the Kings were the thorns in the side of the Mavericks especially the Kings between 2000 and 2005.

Love the videos !
Back when Dirk was *Dirk with a 40 inch vertical*
Been watching your NBA videos for a minute and didn't realize you were Asian. Just thought it was important to mention that because of how much it makes no difference at all. So.... Yeah. Keep it up. Good stuff, brother: )
Unique video
Dirk was like Harden is now, before he won a ring, regular season Superstar but disappointment in the playoffs
Not really
And both aren't good at D
Not really. Harden's playoff struggles are due to him performing catastrophically bad but if you look at Dirk during the playoffs he elevated his play but his lackluster teammates got exposed in the playoffs
@@Okuni_ stop this narrative. Harden is a good defender. He had those first couple of years in Houston where he had no one to help him on the offensive side so he saved his energy for offense. This year and last year his defense was great. He was the best post defender this year and literally last playoff game he had 6 steals and averaged 2 steals per game this regular season which was 7th best in the league(2.8 being the highest). he can actually play defense yall need to stop with all that
Joseph Pradhana well I make fun of hardens defense but he isn’t that bad of a defender he’s slightly above average next to good or borderline good when he puts effort Espcially
Atleast that Mark Cuban was so supportive on his own team
Modern Problems Require Modern Solutions
Feels good to be a Spurs fan :)
The music is dope
Could be a soundtrack of Age of Empires lol
Lol Irk Nowitzki and James Haren
2:42 that is extremely ironic
12:15 was waitin for a cp3 picture there
Guys I just realized something sad: now that Dirk is retired there is only ONE player in the NBA now that played in the 90s: VINCE CARTER, so once he goes its only millenials; great vid tho marc
I mean next season we are gonna have players born in the year 2000 in the nba..its crazy..these 19 year olds...jamal Crawford and vince are the only 2 guys left that played in the years 1999-2001...vince I think is done..jamal not sure but he may be too..
Dirkthony Nowitztano here, buy my ridge wallets
that bacround song xddddddddddddd
If you look at the stats, Dirk was ALWAYS best in the playoffs. The problem was not Dirk. It was his supporting cast. The clutch stats also ALWAYS had him among the best in the league. This business of Dirk being a choker is a myth.
I thought that was Shawn Bradley in the thumbnail 😂
MDJ look like Kyler from Cobra Kai
Bill Russell looks like old history teacher who is so nice to everyone and has full respect. Dallas had iconic logo, why they switched to this shitty horse logo?
Big German vibes with this Renaissance fair music
5:22 them shoes Dirk got on look alot like the Harden 1
the nba in the more recent years didn't have legends like oscar robertson kareem abdul-jabbar wilt chamberlain + bill russell
Dirk is a seven feet Steph
12:16 you’re talking about Harden right
dirk is one of greatest player he carry the dallas in his whole career without another superstar

That man STAYED in Miami lol.
Donnie Nelson looks like Dirk himself wtf ??
How can you say that Dirk was a choker when his numbers always increase in the playoffs? Against a very stacked west? The only series where he actually played bad was against the warriors in 07. He also averaged over 30ppg a lot in a playoff series, against Denver in 09, Wolves in 02, and against the thunder in 11 are on top of my head. His teams just wasn’t good enough. Dirk averages 25/10 in the playoffs(only 4 players have that statline in the playoffs) compared to his 21/7 in the regular season. Those numbers definitely are not for a choker.
defense rebs passing weren't in dirks game in the playoffs..he focused only on scoring and cost his team
Asmosis Jones 1st of all, I just mentioned that he averages 10rpg in his playoff career which is equivalent to almost 2 seasons, so saying that rebounding is not a part of his game is wrong. 2nd, he’s a PF, not a PG, you don’t have to be a great passer to be a great player, what great players do is to make the right pass or to make the right decision to pass the ball and Dirk almost always makes the right pass because of him attracting double teams and mismatches. 3rd, team defense counts more than the defensive ability of an individual player and his teams his entire career are not known for their defense. Steph curry isn’t a good defender but GSW’s defense as a team is still one of the best. Also, scoring is still the most important part of the game no matter what, take the Gasol/Randolph/Conley era in memphis for example, they were a very good defensive team yet they can’t get through the hump because they didn’t have a perennial scorer like Kobe, Dirk, Durant, Wade, Melo who can score at will. Yes, other big guys may be better than Dirk when it comes to rebounding and defense but no other PFs or Cs come close to Dirk’s ability in the clutch.
Have you read Sprawlball?
Marc is sayin that we should believe in harden and/or dame to not choke this year
this comment is not aging well, lillard has to win 4 games in a row
Oh god, you're selling minimalist wallets too now....
Do MJ
Trading Steve Nash, horrible officiating in 06, and breaking up the 2011 team cost of Dirk more rings.
No mention of flopping at all in this video? Disappointment.
the 07 mavs lost 4-2 to the warriors winning games 2 + 5 but losing games 1 3 4 + 6
So I guess we shouldn’t write of harden just yet
Everyone knows they should have won in 2006
Everyone that didn't watch the series lol
2007 was so sad
2006 was Dirks
Hi
But... Why?
In 2003 they made it to the western conference finals only to lose 4-1 against San Antonio. Probably would’ve won had Dirk not gone down with that injury . If onky
Milwaukee drafted Dirk not the mavs
He said "traded down".
Irk Nowitzki lol
Joel Embiid has a lot to learn from Dirk
Russ I still have hope
Why does young dirk look like porzingis
So what I’m hearing is Russell Westbrook is Dirk with a 40 inch vertical??
Dirk had a better career than Pierce
This video got me thinking, are we too quick to jump at Russell Westbrook? Look how long it took Dirk to reach his goal.
Nelson Wong waaaaaaay different circumstances
Dallas was lucky Webber got hurt against them in 2003 playoffs and won and then lost Dirk against the Spurs...oh the irony...
c webb got revenge dont you worry in 2004..first round 5 game series..boom
That was the yrs after 2002 WCF screw job against the Lakers.
I think that the Kings would have won the NBA title in 2003 had Webber not blown out his knee against the Mavs.
@@joesmith8725 exacly
Fuck the kings and Webber
Career avg 25-10 playoffs all time never had any all star teammates (6 total in 21 years two were replacements) and like two all NBA players as teammates that's it that's all... Still won a title. Undefeated against pay gasol Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett in the playoffs swept them including pau twice once on Memphis once on la. Lost as a one seed yup worst series of his life at 18-8 ...super contract numbers today but beside the point also another first round loss 2010 to spurs as a two seed everyone forgets that because the following year he wrecked. He had had enough. But he won plenty of rounds usually the first and the rule at the time was 1-2-3 division then 4-5-6-7-8 and so fourth so 4-5 would usually have more wins then 2-3 sometimes so the seeding was always stupid like that Dallas would be the second most winningest team in the conference but fourth ... So the spurs or whomever is first faces them second round as opposed to the WCF which they changed around late 2000s
Present NBA Players who are in the "choker" status that can hopefully win a title to prove them haters wrong :
Russ
Harden
PG
Derozan
Lillard (proving himself right now tho)
harden is the only one who legit can win a title this year imo of that group..
Kd
Shout out to the METROCARD in your wallet
Can’t wait for dirk to get his 2nd ring soon....
Oh wait.
Then 2012 the worst year ever hit the dallas mavericks and dirk was never the same again.
2006 first nba refs championship
I feel like harden might be this generation's dirk if he ever wins a championship. He's lead the rockets to the playoffs every season, he's regarded as a choker by many and he's been defeated by the warriors multiple times similar to the spurs and mavs.
Noice
Hakeem best international player
He’s basically the ovechkin of the nba
First
He had the most inferior surrounding talent for any superstar ever. I don't like the narratives.
2004 he had nash the year before he won mvp, all stars antoine walker michael finley antwan jamison future all star josh howard bench star marquis daniels who had a career year and mavs with prime dirk age 24-25 still lost in round 1 in 5 games..smdh to the kings....
2006 doesn’t hurt dirk don’t count aganist him to Me it was rigged
2006 was rigged or at least poorly officiated. Change my mind
Nah you just didn't watch the finals if you did you'd know no one can guard d wade

Yo great video and all but i gotta drop a dislike cus you know, dirks my guy.
Lebron forgetting how to play basketball made cemented Dirk. I’ve seen people saying he’s the best power forward ever and top 15 player ever. He’s a a top 25 player that’s it.
Ok, top 25 player? Sounds like quite an accomplishment to me, sounds fair. The fuck's your point? To make sure to devalue someone's career with an asterick, like every single other player's career isn't full of them also? Cool comment bro.
Legarbage was outplayed by Jason Terry mash work you a bronsexual dirk ended the goat comment by avging 10 ppg in the fourth quarter of the finals ..LeBron ? 1.5 somewhere there ... Put him to sleep
Dirk's 2011 ring was handed to him by Jew Stern, one FT at a time. This repayment for Dirk being screwed over by the Heat in their last Finals appearance against eachother
why would the mavs be rewarded for that?..they choked on their own
@@razkable just because politically that's how the NBA works, the Jew tries to jump around and give gifts to all as repayment for their expansion of his wealth

Dirk was barely a good all-star form back before his championship He's maybe looked like the next Michael Jordan. all NBA players who have frustrations, struggles, choke, they all reach that goal. Even too we hope we can reach it.
