I like your attention to maintenance. The Filter is nice and clean now. Well done, Sir. I also like that you have the water going to your plants. Very good way of watering and fertilising your plants. Out of appreciation to you for taking the time to produce and share this content your video has now been given the 13th like to say thankyou very much for sharing. Have a great Week and take care, Sir. 👍🏼🙂👍🏼❤️
I have copied your system and just got it going, first the no 1 barrel nearly overflowed when I started, (is this normal?). Second after I first turned off the pump all my media ran into the pump and jammed it, I've now put a plastic disk with holes in to stop the media going back into the pump, ( I think a non return valve is better) Third I noticed your media coming out the drain to overflow tank, how do you stop your media coming out the drain and jamming the valve open or loosing media (maybe a mesh over the outlet pipe in the barrel). Great video I have 4 ponds and hundreds of fish and was fed up cleaning the foam filters, this is a way forward. South of France.
1. Please note at 16:44 in the video, you need to clear the air pocket in barrel #2 inlet by removing any media that are trapped inside. 2. To prevent media back flowing to the pump, use screen strainer on the inlet pipe and a check valve. 3. All my drain pipes have screen strainer to prevent the media escaping. However some media are deformed/undersize that usually make it thru. Definitely an improvement, such as installing a thicker screen, is needed to stop this problem.
After Cleaning the Media ! in the two barrels ........... Is there any good bacteria left ? Why not simply use sponges or filter cloth to catch the dirt, instead of the expensive "K" media ? Oh by the way ............ Another great video ......(".")...
Beneficial bacteria are mainly in the moving bed barrel #3. Of course there are some beneficial in barrel 1 & 2. Cleaning those barrels with pond water to loosen dirt accumulated at the bottom of barrels on the media but some beneficial bacteria should still be attached on the media. This system has proven working well for a few seasons with clear water pond. Yes, “K” media are expensive but much more easy to clean than sponges or filter cloth.
You back yard is looking great. I noticed that in your first 2 barrels you now have 2 PVC returns..in each.. does it help I wrap mine in batting..and change it after cleaning each week I have about 100 fish now
Thanks Scot! Watch this video regarding the two return upgrade: ua-cam.com/video/XOoYhxzJfq0/v-deo.html Yes, it does help indeed. Flow rate has been improved from 3150 GPH to 4500 GPH. Batting is not a bad idea. However it may get clogged up quickly and water may overflow if not monitored everyday.
Not sure of the maximum fish density but as of right now, I have 18 koi and around 30 goldfish fish sizes ranging from 3” - 20” in the pond and the system still does a pretty good job.
@@johnmooney776 You’re correct! However I can also use them as my mechanical filters. Other than those then my skimmer and water falls would be my second mechanical/bio filter.
What a beautiful pond my friend and I love the filter system. I make all my own filters.
Thank you sir!
Thanks!

Great idea!!!!
Thanks! 👍
Good job.
Thank you!
After the fact I see I would still clean 1 barrel at a time. While 1 barrel drains clean other and vise versa. Still thanks good idea and video.
I could also drain two barrels at the same time if I decided to let the water out to the grass or to the drain.
Thanks! 👍🤞
Awesome video! I built the same filter. What uv are you using? And what air pump and stone are you using? Thanks
UV: Jebao 55W UV sterilzer
Air stone: 8” disk
Air pump: 1700 Cubic inch/min pump

How did you adapt your vac to blow instead of suck ? Great idea.
My shop vac has built in blower outlet. So I use the blower side for cleaning the barrels.
Can you tell me what the name/ model of your pump that pumps the “dirty water “ to your irrigation setup up?
This is the pump: a.co/d/aoqg2JS
with this filtration how many fishes can you grow at highest density at your pound ?
Not sure of the maximum fish density but as of right now, I have 18 koi and around 30 goldfish fish sizes ranging from 3” - 20” in the pond and the system still does a pretty good job.
Hello! What size air pump are you using in the moving bed you built? What is the name tha air pump?
Pondmaster AP 20 air pump 20W 1700 cubic IN/min
how much are you using for 3 barrel K1 ? thank you
4 cubic feet of K1 and 2 cubic feet of K2.
Hi tran just curious what do you use for a mechanical filter?
K1’s in drum 1 and K2’s in drum 2.
I always thought that k1 and k2 were biological?

Got any videos of skimmer and waterfall?

Where yuo bay the media please
‘Where you buy the media please’?
If that’s your question then the answer is:
I bought mine on eBay and at my local fish farm supply store.
