Morning Leon, I have to say that watching your videos over the year has been an inspiration. I love that you show us it all. Most people keep the out-takes as just that but you show how things can and do go wrong, and I thank you for that. I am in the process of revamping my pond after 20 years and an issue where I lost all my koi and it is thanks to people like you that I have decided to record and show people what I am doing. You are correct about the seal on the outside. It stops the water from going through the thread, so you did it the correct way.

On the inside of the barrels you could use a 90 and a stub of pipe aiming downward to drain as much water out as possible, the syphon effect.

Mate it’s inevitable that some fry won’t make it, it’s not your failure it won’t take much for weaker fish to turn. It’s a positive that you’ve monitored them so well and actually only lost a few and that’s very good work on your behalf mate. Like the filter build mate, it’ll serve you well. Gutted about your fry mate, but they seem on track now. Cracking new filter build, l cut down by filter cages from the base and solvent welded together. You can see it 15mins into my barrel build video. I did smile at your weighty barrel build text lol. Also loving the new promo gear 👍

New filter is looking good and should work a treat. Just one comment...whenever I use a tank connector I always puit the washer on the inside (water side) of the barrel with the treads on the outside. Makes more sense to me to have the washer 'stop' the water before it has a chance to bypass the fitting or leak around the threads, also having the nut outside makes it easier to tighten. When I can however I prefer using a uniseal instead of a tank connector. Cheers.

Good video Leon. It's always good to see how people do things. I'm thinking about adding a moving bed to my filter system for next season. My only issue is where to put it. In line with my existing filters or on a separate line? With the tank connectors, it doesn't matter if you have the washers inside or outside as long as the washer sits against the flange and not the nut. If you put them next to the nut water wicks down the threads and you would have a leak. Sorry to hear you lost some of the fry but at least you managed to save the others.

Leon I built a Wrighty pro filter and had barrel 1 and 2 with static media and a moving bed in 3. The result was crystal clear water, just a suggestion. Your diy has come on in leaps and bounds since you first started.

Yeah I’m now 2 blocks high above ground and now need to get some pipe work done for the return inlets before I can continue laying more blocks (also trying do decide on skimmer) surface mount or a free standing one that sits in the pond thinking more so on the surface one but need to install it before I finish the block work 🤔
Nice one mate you could always use one of those in pond skimmers that go through the wall on 4 inch pipe but any Will do the job 👌

Glad your on top of the fry tank Leon, good progress on the pallet tank filter system, are those branch loppers behind you on shed wall? what make are they, any good? just broke 2 pairs, aluminium handles, soft a s**#.
Thanks Marek I can't wait to get it up and running now. The loppers are called "forge Steel loppers" from screwfix I've only used them a few times so can't say if they're good or not but they do a spear and Jackson set aswell that are quite good 👍

maybe you might want to consider anoxic filter like this chap in the UK [ Koi Pond Filter with Drum, Moving Bed, Air Lift and Anoxic ] copy and paste in search. He got very good results with low nitrates level. I am into cabomba in aquarium

Hi Leon just a quick question mate when you say pp the media before you put in filter what is it you use to do it many thanks mate..
Hello dean it's a type of pond treatment called potassium permanganate it will clean and dead bacteria off used media and will etch a better surface area on the new media allowing the beneficial bacteria to bind to it easier 👍
Why not just make vertical drain pipes instead of slanted, This really increases the flow. I always see they all build this way.
It's pump fed so needs to fall to the next chamber
Hel-x 13 is definitely superior to k1 or k1 micro as it always seems to go more brown in are moving bed. We haven't tried the Burton's media like James the koi whisper has got or the new K+ but anything will work and it depends on the budget. I wonder how good or bad Hel-x 13 is static ?
Thanks mate yeah I think the hel-x would work well as a static media as it has more nooks and krannies than k1 I'll have to see what I can get my hands on 👌👍
@@progressivepondkeeping I know k1 micro works really well in the eazypod but in a DIY situation it doesn't we had a three barrel system once and found that due to its small size and smooth shape it didn't lock together very well and dirt just pushed right through. I personally would love to see someone use Hel-x 13 as static media !

Hello mate. Its because they are pump fed so the water falls through gravity to the next lower barrel
