"Jerry was hassled before the show for smoking a number outside by Princeton officials. Jerry threw the number on the ground and told them "we'll never play this f'n place again". He was true to his word. "
Dave's Picks needs to release THIS show for the Good Lovin' alone. There was a bunch of hype about the "rave-up" GL on Dave's Picks Vol 14 (3/26 Academy of Music) but that one is actually kind of standard fare compared to this KILLER "Brooklyn Bridge" version.
agent strauss to me pigpen WAS the dead!! he was the highlight of every show, in my unhumble opinion. will give this one a listen an d see how it stacks up against the palladium version. the audience participation caught on the palladium shows really makes all those versions stand out.
starting around 8 minutes, a lot of live versions of this tune that have been released on CD, I'd rather have Pigpen muted and be able to enjoy the band a lot more than his silly Lovelight and Midnight Hour type ramblin' and rappin'.
Pigpens talking might have felt right in concert, it's lame to hear on live albums. The best part of the 1967 Midnight Hour is the 11 minute Jam in the middle without any of Pigpens jive talk audience interaction stuff.
amazing they were able to cover this song in a mere 19 minutes and 34 seconds.
Actually about 30 min~~drum solo not included here
This seems slow to me. I'm thinkin violla lee must have been a champ. Pig did some pretty fast beat good lovins. Gee, that may seem lewed.
And in a thousand of different evolutions...as a real true jam...
Best Pigpen jam ever. I wasn't even born yet...
Right On man
I was two years old. Should have been there.
"That's a girl? I thought that was the Brooklyn Bridge"
SOLD THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE
I spent the afternoon hanging on stage with Jerry while he broke in the strings on his new pedal steel. Great day and night!
Magic. As good as it gets. Thanks for sharing!
Love love this thank you for YOU
Something to take care of your natural needs…
Free style Pig Pen rapping .... where else but the Dead?

good ol' jerry
"a number"? oh jeez. whats a number?
@@lightburst a joint
Jerry was an unapologetic joint smoker
a rare situation where Jerry was smoking an actual joint and not a well used roach.
This show is Phil Lesh's favorite PigPen concert...
Mine too
I will jump on that Magic Bus!!!!!!
Pigpen is the reason deadheads dance!
Was at this & actually got to meet Pigpen one of my all time highlights
@@spacetunesgreg4979 You met him after the show? Bet he was covered in sweat. Nice.
At the top of his game....

"....let me jump on your pony and ride!..."
I agree that this should be released as a Dave's Picks. I was surprised this tune wasn't part of Fallout From the Phil Zone.

You do realize the band is playing for the first 8 minutes too don't you?

There are other Good Lovin live versions , his tapping ruins all of them. Doesn't work as well on record on Cf as it does in person
+Wildberry Jam Could not disagree more.
This is what makes Pigpen Pig.
I could listen to this all day
