    Used to watch this frequently on the family ranch. The badgers have limited short burst speed. If whatever the prey is escapes that initial burst the badger isn't interested in pursuing it further. It just looks for something else. The coyotes are smart, opportunistic hunters who circle around the badger and pick off whatever escapes using their superior speed and agility. The badgers aren't in the least threatened by the coyotes and the coyotes know not to get too close to the badger or they risk becoming dinner. And everyone, except the prey, seemed quite content with the relationship.

      I don't think that coyotes are at risk of being dinner for badgers, but they do not want to mess with those claws.

      The badger might fight the coyote off. But probably no the badger doesn't gain much here. It doesn't lose much either so it tolerates the Coyotes trying to catch the scraps that escape. It is more interested in fighting the other badger

    Badger after digging up a fast prairie dog: - He's gonna get AWAY!!!
    Coyote while body slamming the prairie dog: - No, he's not...
    I wonder how many will get the reference. :)

    How is this a partnership? Nothing is explained by the narrator. So the badger does all the work, the coyote catches the groundhog…then what? The coyote says, “here, badger, you take half”? Wouldn’t the coyote just run off with the kill? How does the badger benefit?

    • @avonavians2860
      @avonavians2860 Рік тому +7

      During a cooperative hunt, the coyotes benefit the badgers both by leading them to the prey and by chasing the prey above ground, causing them to take shelter underground where the badgers can catch them.
      In this video the relationship is sort of in favor of the coyotes. They wait for the badgers to surface with the kill so they can nab the prey and run off with it. During the winter the prairie dogs are often dormant, so the relationship does not play out as well.

      Good point. The badger is being used. Very selfish.

    it is obvious what is causing these interactions. It's called species extinction and mutual survival needs.
    These animals do not look thriving but weakened. It is sad but common more and more.

      In fact, this relationship has existed for centuries, and has been widely reported by Indians.

    I see no love between those 2.

    • @avonavians2860
      @avonavians2860 Рік тому +4

      They don't really have to "love" each other, they just have to tolerate each other.
      In this particular occasion, the badgers are grumpy because they are not benefiting from the relationship.
      And there is clearly no cooperation between the two badgers, either.
