I think Tom Petty is one of the greatest songwriters of our generation.
Without a doubt
After Petty passed away I decided to listen to all of his and the Heartbreakers albums. I was always a fan but was absolutely blown away by the great songs I had never heard by them, Casa Dega being one of those songs. It has turned into one of my favorites.
It should be spelled cassadaga

I got married in florida to a beautiful woman who i will always love, She use to visit a lady in Casa Dega,... This lady in this town told her she would meet a tall dark tanned man... We been married for 36 years.

I LOVE this song! Tom and the rest of the Heartbreakers are AWESOME!! I have been a fan for nearly my entire life. (I'll be 25 in December.) I finally acquired a copy of Playback and am very happy that I was able to get it at a decent price and the music is amazing!!!

Wow. I just discovered this yesterday, and I’m so glad I did. I’ve always been a fan of Tom but I never dug super deep into his deluxe tracks. This being a bonus track is just criminal. “Fools pay the price of a whisper in the night” is a chilling verse, and the whole song is just so beautiful. To think so many people will never hear it.
I’ve been looking at Tom’s songs for over a year and still discovering new fantastic music. He was so good. I never knew he made all this great music as in the uk we never heard most of it. Keep looking! 🎼🎸💖

"I misspelled it," Tom admits. "It has two S's. Cassa Dega is in Florida, it's a town of fortune tellers not far from Gainesville. I actually wrote that on an airplane after reading an article in the New York Times about Cassa Dega. Mike came in with a track, I think about the same time as 'Refugee' and 'Here Comes My Girl', and we put those words to it, though we radically changed the music when we went in the studio."

250 die daily where alcohol is the primary or major contributing factor (approximately). That number is simply not possible with pot. Alcohol is deadlier without a doubt and it is definitely more damaging to the body. Take that for what it is worth. Not to convince anyone to smoke pot but definitely to tell people who judge pot smokers to "get real:'

A great song, I have it on vinyl ! Petty is like neil Young, he keeps ploughing on, and you have to be careful not to miss some of the stuff that might ottherwise fall by the wayside.
this should've been on Damn the Torpedoes...since this was actually the B-side of Don't Do Me Like That...it would probably have completed that album....

@june21stgem, I think that Young and Petty are similar in that they are both deeply ingrained in the traditions of mainstream , traditional American rock. A criticism of both is their lack of hits outside their fanbase. I would agree that Young enjoys the mantle of eccentric, Petty that of craftsman.

@garylongden I have to disagree, petty is nothing like neil young.. Neil young is a strange guy, with a lot of great music, petty is an everyday guy, with nothing but great music..
Neil Young is a bit of a curmudgeon. Tom has a great voice, hardworking, great writer, and works well with band and audience. He just blows everybody away.

Petty at his best, can't believe this never made it on an album. HEY, Where'd the second ending go? There's an extra 2 minutes on the video, but the comeback never came back.
