The music of the early 70s gives me a sense of calm & an awesome feeling when life seemed so pure uncomplicated and simple. Food tasted better and kids played outside...no keeping up with cell phones or having to pay to watch TV! 😥😊
This song reminds me of when I arrived in Vietnam on 6/1/1970. I had no idea what hell was in store for me. But, I made it, and on 4/27/1971, I returned to the world, in one piece, mind and body. Dedicated to my 11B buddies of D Co., 1/12th, 1st Cav. 8/22/2016.

Those records were all out at the same time.
I just love this song so much!!! This is my all time favorite song by Gene Chandler and that baseline is out of this world!!!I must have listened to it about 20 times in a row when I was driving once. I really love when he sings “Good evening sweet darling. May I ask your name? “ Sooo sweet!! A time when men were so pleasant and charming.❤
one of my favorite songs in my life. I was 10 years old and the song was playing at the roller rink where I was skating with my brothers and sister. Back in 1970. And my Dad came to pick us up, it was wintertime. And Anne Murray's "Snowbird" was playing on the radio. And Neil Diamond's "Cracklin' Rosie". We felt so secure driving home from the roller rink with our Dad.
Talk about a cross section of Time. Groovy Situation and the songs you mentioned were on the radio during August, September, and October of 1970. I was 14 back then and it was easy to place total reliance in the security grownups provided.
September 1970...walked into the Freshman dance at college as this was playing ...and I met the most scrumptious blonde/green eyed guy...he asked me to dance...and that was the start of something beautiful.

Bentom86 I was thinking the same thing. U know the Spinners had struggled to even chart till Stevie Wonder wrote “It’s A Shame” for them in 1970, which was a big hit!!
@@vincentrobinson9645 It was also at that time when Berry Gordy was butting heads with Stevie and Marvin Gaye. They both had come into their prime as artists who were now doing it all with writing and producing for themselves and for others. For Gordy that seemed to be more about rebellion than progress, and he wanted no part of allowing Marvin to create "What's Going On" (recorded in '70-'71) with its subject matter of war, drugs, poverty, & religion. Of course, the album turned out to be an epic masterpiece and he was quick to embrace those results. But 1970 was a monumental time to say the least. No I havent claimed that Gene was Original. What Gene does is turning it into a masterpiece full of emotions. Back in the days of much has been stolen from artist with a skincolour. For me music is universal, No doubts about this and their cant be no discussion of taste.
Don't know what is meant by "back the days of much" as the statement doesn't make sense, but for your information Mel & Tim were black. All I did was point out that Gene Chandler was not the original artist & that there was a reggae version, no one mentioned color, taste or whatever ruffled your feather, so easy up cowboy!
Cowboy Joe, I bet you ain't no original cowboy either. In the early 1700s, cattle ranching spread north into what is now Texas (Tejas), Arizona, and New Mexico and south to Argentina. Native cowboys were called vaqueros(from the Spanish word for cow) and developed roping skills, using braided rawhide reatas (Lariat).
Jack Johnson - Original Cowboy? The last stagecoach robbery occurred in 1916, this is 2016, so there's no possible way anyone nowadays can claim to be an original cowboy. Ranching 1st started in Texas with ranches being manned by mostly the Mexican vaquero. In 1836 Texan ranchers drove many Mexicans out & claimed the cattle as their own. In 1861 the Civil War broke out & Texans & Tejanos (Vaqueros in Blue & Gray) went off to war. The cattle roamed free & the herds grew, upon returning home, the cattle were rounded up & driven to sell in places such as New Orleans & California. Next time you attempt to educate anyone get your facts straight & stop displaying your stupidity pendejo (Spanish word for dumb shit)!
Marcus when this song came out I was in grade8 I was a groovin.now almost 50 years later the chips and other junk food have taken there corse not a groovin or movin so much now.oh well great song.
WELL I WAS AROUND 7 YEARS OLD WHEN GENE BROUGHT THIS OUT IN 1970.NOW IN MY MIDDLE 50'S AND YES I DON'T MOVE AS WELL AS I USE TO ALSO BUT I STILL CAN GET DOWN A LITTLE,LOL.
Musicians and artists from yesteryear were multi-talented and put their hearts and souls into their music. Music from the 70's is music that I relate too.
I do dig it still. I play 70's 60's 50's music on my satellite radio and occasionally 80's 90's, but I mostly keep it on the 70's and 60's. I don't really listen to today's what is called music. It is mostly sampling and without much talent. I'm an older guy but when I hear my generations music I don't really need anything else. The Duke of Earl was and still is magnificent. Love you all and God Bless you and the United States of America.
Dang! LOVE THAT LACY BASS... Makes this tune for me... Defines the term LOTION... In no uncertain terms... Groked it as a teen... WALKED more that one young Lass by it... Convinced me on the turn that the BASS was the AXE to follow... TOUGH, TIGHT and Out of Sight... The rock hard Rhythm that the MUSIC stands on...

Gene Chandler was a legend of his time! He had so much positive talent & truth in his lyrics! I always will remember this song!Bernard Hendricks
Back when music was music.
Marcus Reeves hello stud how r you
Marcus when this song came out I was in grade8 I was a groovin.now almost 50 years later the chips and other junk food have taken there corse not a groovin or movin so much now.oh well great song.
Music from the 70's is music that I relate too.
one of the best examples of northern soul
Yesssss, music from my mommy and her sibling days. Groovy situation that I'm feeling as I type.
1970. Laying on the beach and working at Shriver's, OC NJ. Those were the days.
Wow! all the way back in the day jam.
great to hear these 70's classics.
why don't people dig it like they used to?
I do dig it still. I play 70's 60's 50's music on my satellite radio and occasionally 80's 90's, but I mostly keep it on the 70's and 60's. I don't really listen to today's what is called music. It is mostly sampling and without much talent. I'm an older guy but when I hear my generations music I don't really need anything else. The Duke of Earl was and still is magnificent. Love you all and God Bless you and the United States of America.
This bass line is FRICKIN SICK!!!
I just love people who love what they do....and Gene Chandler is one of this, and the talent is just amazing......I am bobbing me head in joy.
I love this music it is soooo romantic,so sweet I could listen it and the music from the 70,s the best.
I haven't heard this in years. Still great...
Took me a while to get that bass line down! I saw him at Chicago's original Regal Theater doing Rainbow 65 and years later got to become casually acquainted with him. Great vocalist, showman, and a good man!
Knew this since attending primary school & still sound greeaattt!!
Memories of this song in 2020. Brings me back to better times.

We are getting old and well advanced years but they have notes how to keep the weather warm so birds can come together to Texas. Beautiful girls enjoy life with the ladies
