THANK YOU!! My favorite song...period. I'm 57 and have played this (and all of the other Philly hits) all of my life. I have two sons, 22 and 24. A few years back my oldest was working as a waiter at Zio's (an Italian Garden type restaurant), one Saturday night he ran back to get a salad for a customer. They had an older retired African -American gentleman that worked part-time just doing salads and he had this song playing on an old boombox with a CD player singing along to it. My son walked up, started getting a salad and jumped right in with the older guy. This startled the guy so much he paused the song and asked how a young white kid like him knew the words to this song. My son explained that this was the kind of music he grew up with, that I played it al the time and that this was one of his favorites. He said the old guy smiled a huge smile and said, "Well son, then let's do it right." He turned the volume up, started the song from the beginning and they sang the whole thing together. Next thing he knew the whole restaurant was clapping, it had been loud enough that the customers could hear. The manager didn't stop them because it was one of her favorite songs as well. He made more tips that night than any other night he ever worked there. He split his tips 50/50 the older guy. This and all of the Philly greats are loved and listened to by both of my sons. The greats passed on to another generation...
The greatest R&B songs of all time by the great Billy Paul… I bought all his albums he was so unique and so ahead of his time in his music, this was the start of his career as far as I was concerned but I made sure that I bought everything that came out from him, rest in peace your legacy lives on
This was # 1 in 1972 I remember this all over the radio , the talk of infidelity was the buzz but still it climbed the charts , people just couldn't help it , smooth as silk and sexy
Every time I hear this song I get teary eyed. I had a cousin Carl who died at 33 from colon cancer as I was driving to the church for his funeral this song came on.Whenever I hear this song I think about my cousin,I was a senior in high school now 63 years young.
Oh, how I miss the greatest decade of all times!! When music was REAL music ,came out of the heart and soul ! We were blessed having lived those unforgettable years.
Believe it or not, this song reminds me of growing up in L.A. and walking to school with my little pink AM transistor radio listening to 93 KHJ and songs like this would come on. I didn't know really what they were singing about I just knew "I Loved the Song!" Oh, the 70's are a GREAT time in life to remember and the music is the best to listen to! I love Rock n' Roll, Disco, Soul, Grunge, the Blues and Heavy Metal, but the 70's music is always my favorite go-to when I just wanna kick back, chill, and remember...
I remember many years ago a DJ played this on the radio and said “the greatest song about adultery” It’s a great record for me Motown was the 60s Philadelphia was 70s my teenage years. You are missed Mr Paul.
It's 2024 and I am in the process of having a thing going on with Ms.Jones.This song still serves as a calling for any female with the last name Jones!!! ESPECIALLY MY FRIEND. VJ.❤❤😊
@@DIABOLICAL90 You know, we are kindred in a way. Certain songs will bring back memories of my dad, and they always seem to play at the right time. Almost like he's messaging me! I was holding him when he slipped away, he was young and I was young. RIP Pops.🙏
Absolutely superb reworking of this classic Philly love song. It takes a really special production talent to interpret these wonderful tracks and yet still retain the essence. If the original team and Billy Paul were around today they would welcome you aboard no doubt about that. Through my Disco DJ years in the 70s 80s 90s this song was always a staple towards the end of the evening and I often mixed two separate singles to extend the magic and often thought it deserved a much longer mix. Now added to my Mashups & Remixes UA-cam playlist. Keep up the great work 😎👌
Está canción la escucho yo por primera vez con 13 años en la discoteca y salío el disco cuando tenía 11 añoses una maravilla para mí es un diamante de la música gracias
One of the BEST R&B LP's of all time... Soul, bluesy, and just plain badasssssssss! You make it sultry, smooth, and you put the icing on the cake! Love it!
SO Beautiful and just Timeless. You just do not hear this type of music anymore. I suffer from depression and even though I am on Medication, it has not helped and I am not an easy person to be able to taper it without bad reactions. Listening to your channel Sir, is what gives me MUCH needed cheer Blessings from Ontario, Canada.
Gorgeous remix of a silky-smooth classic that drifts along almost in a hypnotizing slow motion. I never have fully grasped how Mrs. Jones could be at the same café every day at 6:30 and yet no one would know she’d be there, but I digress :) Thank you for this superb mix of a long-time favourite.

Another little masterpiece from the Philadelphia Sound of the early 70's. Sequined tee-shirts, early Elton, Jovan musk oil, bell bottoms, unisex fashions, Viet Nam, Womens Lib (ugh), the world was sadder. The 60s party was over. Beatles had broken up, cities were dying, the niceties of life were gone. But we had the Philly Sound and tunes like this to take us back to the world of that time, where it was far better than today, even with all the turmoil and changes in society.
11yo me remembers what life was like in Colorado 1972. This jam holds on to those memories of days gone by. It is so true music holds on to your past memories like a vivid dream.
Ahhh, The Spring, Summer, Fall of 1972! Remember it well. 50 years have passed. Those of us lucky, blessed to be alive then didn't really know what we were missing then. Yes, we all lived through good and bad times, just like any other generation before and after. Nixon in the white house, Vietnam, a recession, 35¢ a gallon gas, 10¢ candy bars, sodas, chips, Hostess pies, 45¢ Big Mac, Whopper, roast beef sandwich. 5¢ a scoop ice cream cones at Thrifty's. Wasn't perfect, but it looked and seemed like life was more enjoyable, cost of living cheap, food cheap. 2022? Nah, full of bad crap going on, that's all. Great music, and this one was one of 1972's greatest. Remember the times of your life, memories, the way we were, will never be back. Glad I lived it.
