I was the only woman in my theatre and I got to lift my soda cup to a few not-action-hero women kicking some ass along with the hero. But I was there for typical action too, and I definitely got that!
Ikr??I watched it today n was so surprised at aunties being badasses!also I'm so happy to see the main lead getting this movie as his debut! he's my fav tv hero and I have been waiting for his debut n he didn't disappoint😍
This is like a dream come true for Indian action fans. Hollywood has always been the real deal when it comes to action cinema. Other than that there's Hong Kong cinema. But to see a Bollywood action movie being appreciated by Americans. It's amazing.
@@spacemann1425 As a Canadian in a city with a big Indian community, so I’ve been blessed with Bollywood and many other Indian-styles of movies. I’ve seen some absolutely great action movies and being surrounded by an Indian crowd, I get even more as their reaction hints at things I’m not seeing with my Canadian eyes.
Ok so this is based on a true fact about a Gurkha soldier from Indian Army. Everyone Indian knows about this.
That scene was one of the best scenes in the movie for me,I absolutely loved that the protagonist was repeatedly getting his behind handed to him by the big guy and the woman got to satisfyingly get her revenge.
The film's concept of a soldier fighting bandits, is actually a real story where an Indian Gurkha soldier Bishnu Shrestha fought off 40 bandits, killing 3 in process and injuring 8 of them with single khukri knife.
Gurkha-yeah, all you had to say. :)
India is not for beginners 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@JnEricsonx Gorkha and not Gurkha. They are called Gorkha with an O. The Brits couldn't pronounce the O so changed it to U.

Damn! When Indians go off, they can be SCARY.
Fun fact: The Stunt director for Kill was actually part of the Stunt team for Snowpiercer.
😮😮😮
Saw this and there was like 3 Indian guys in the movie theater with me. BEST ACTION movie I’ve seen in YEARS. Hands down this movie deserves so much more attention. Hollywood needs to learn how to do a movie.
People need to see this NOW!
Sad. 😢
It was quite literally 'A BLOODY RIDE'. I'm so happy to see Dan review this❤
Finally Dan reviewing Indian movie after RRR. One of few reviewers I trust.
A surprise review just like how much of a surprise the KiLL was
And the actor who portrayed the villain (Raghav) is not a traditional actor but a famous dancer and his performance is really a surprising one
This is exactly the sort of movie review I'd like to see more of on this channel, Dan. This is the sort of thing Siskel and Ebert would do all the time. They'd put a spotlight on some obscure movie that they thought deserved more attention (Brazil and Blood Simple come to mind, for examples). Please don't only review the mainstream movies that feed the UA-cam algorithm. I'm putting Kill on my list of movies to see. Thanks!
I had no intention of watching "Kill" because I thought it would be an over the top non-sensical story with the cliche tropes from Bollywood. I only went to see it because of this review. Dan's right, it is one of the best action films this year and a must see every year. I'm telling others they need to see it.
My local Regal theater owes you for this one, Dan. I haven't gone to the theater in a few months (as is typical for me when the weather improves in the late spring/early summer), but this review convinced me to go. So I've now got tickets to see Kill after work tomorrow.
what do you think now ?
@@user-dr5lz7jq2lbro he said , he will watch tomorrow
That’s a pretty hefty endorsement. I’ll definitely give this one a shot
No screenings here in Denmark, where American blockbusters reign. Maybe the buzz can motivate a smaller theater relase.
It will blow when it will release on Netflix. It didn't got that much attention because of the another big budget Indian movie kalki , which got most of the screens .
No no it made profit@@O2H3
I was visiting Tallahassee, 45 seconds into this review, I paused it, looked to see if it was playing, found on screening that was starting in 10 mns, bought a ticket, watched it. Now back to finish this review and it was indeed INCREDIBLE!
Nice! Did you catch it at the AMC in the mall? I saw a lot of good movies there in college.
@@DanMurrellMovies I saw it in a AMC theater myself. God I love A-List, I have saved so much money from that.
@DanMurrellMovies INDEED I DID!!! AMC 20 Tallahassee, made my college years as well! When you said the movie took a turn, I was sooo curious to know what it was and when I saw it too I was like 😮 Thank you for the review.
So happy Dan reviewed an Indian movie. A less mentioned but a great achievement was they built the entire set from scratch. Trains in India especially the one shown rattle a fair bit, they have a noise pattern to them....every little such detailed was catered to so that it feels like they were actually shooting in a moving train
Real artists crafting a great film, that’s awesome !
I am an Indian. From India, yet I hadn’t heard of this movie before. Thank you Dan for bringing this in my radar. The most fun I have had this year in a theatre! ❤❤
The ONLY Indian film I've enjoyed in the theatre since Baahubali 2.
And I'm Indian.
Just saw it in the United States, and it definitely lives up to its name. And director does something very ballsy (which everyone can probably guess what it is), and that causes a “flip to switch” in the protagonist and it was carnage after that. It was a definitely an entertaining movie. And I can also appreciate the fact that the protagonist is not your typical invincible guy who takes on a 100 guys without dropping a sweat. He absolutely takes hits and damages as well.
Yeah....all I say it went from "disable" fighting to "DESTROY" fighting.
@@JnEricsonx 💯🔥
I saw it at it's premiere at TIFF Midnight Madness and having a sold out crowd cheer and groan and shout and clap at every brutal kill was so awesome. I saw it again this weekend and while the crowd was smaller you could feel the OMG vibe. Holds up on a rewatch. I'm with you Dan, see it NOW
I’m seeing it tonight at 9:20pm tonight!!
I am excited to for an under 2 hour length film to get into me into modern Indian filmmaking!
You will throughly enjoy it
Dan…the reaction I had when you mentioned that “twist” in the movie (the turning point) made me feel something incredible. It’s the exact same feeling I had watching it, realizing what it was turning into and sitting up in my seat in the theater as I was watching it happen. It reminds me why I still love going to the movies so much
I just went to see this earlier today and I had the same reaction. First 40 minutes I was like this is good and totally fine. Then ‘that thing’ happens and it totally went up a few levels. Such a good time.
This is why I like Dan's reviews. I had no idea that this movie existed, but I'll actually go watch it this week because of his recommendation.
Thank you reviewing this! I saw the title advertised and had no idea what this was about for it to register for me. Now, I have a new film for the list. (I'm in NY, so I can probably see it in the theater, yeah!)
Never heard of this until now but I am SO hyped to watch it! Love that you share all kinds of films from all languages, and especially ones that not many people are talking about!
My biggest suprise was the villain, Raghav Jugal and unfamiliar to everyone he has been on our Tv screens for decades, he got his start in a dance reality show quickly becoming one of the best Indian dancers and then he became host for a number of dance reality shows and he is funny funny man...most of the nights we see him on tv as a jokester and innocent lovable guy and now to see him in this avatar as the deplorable arrogant villain was one of the biggest surprises of the movie
That was cockroach right? His dancer name?
This movie is fantatstic. A few times it does have that super schmaltzy melodramatic romanticism found in Indian cinema. It's something that's so baked into their cinema culture, that even a movie this incredibly brutal touches on it occasionally. I found that fascinating. Luckily there were no big musical numbers!! haha Great great action here. There's a lot of good gags in many of the death scenes too, so it doesn't all feel the same. The audience I was with in my theater applauded at the end too.
Lets take indian Action movies for instance they try to fight like dragon ball z characters with stunt doubles all the time hence a shitty action scene would be the end result. . our standard is very low in action cinema
The romanticism was very minimal here as compared to regular Indian cinema. This is probably the first REAL Indian action movie. There's no fat on it, no wasted scenes, the audience I watched it with were completely into it and you could here the gasps throughout
@@Adipod47 for western audience
Saw the first 30 seconds of this review and immediately A-listed my friend and I to catch it a few days ago and I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST! Telling everyone I know to go now, thanks for the head’s up, Dan!!
Doesn't seem to be scheduled in any theaters here in Switzerland yet... I hope it will find some places. If not, I guess I'll have to wait for a streaming release.
Streaming Parter is Disney
@@Elodie12313 This sucks... I'd hate to have to re-subscribe to Disney+ just for this... maybe I'll rather wait for a DVD release.
Let’s hope the original arrives to Europe too.
It will be fun to see which Hollywood actor they’ll choose for the remake in a couple of years.
Thank You So Much dan for Reviewing kill and i am so glad and happy that you loved it very much, easily the best action film of 2024 and i had one of the best theatre experiences of my life while watching it with a packed crowd, here is a few interesting details about the film as you made my day!! - the lead actor lakshya who played amrit took 9 months of training for the film and when you see his bare body without his shirt scene, he did not drink water for 3 days before filming that particular scene. about the main villain guy who played fani, his name is raghav juyal and he is a dancer turned actor
150 litres of fake blood was used in the film and the core idea behind kill came from a real life incident experienced by the director.
Every Knife Had A Name - So The Prosthetics Head of The Film, Needed to know the size of the knife 4 months before shooting the film, as he wanted to know whose cheek or eyes this knife is going to go, name of the person and how will it travel from the villains to the heroes and vice versa, and they had to map it 4 months in advance. A Total of 52 different knives were meticulously crafted and each member of the gang had fighting styles tailored to their individual characters ans story arcs.
the script contained every action movement down to its minute detail & it took 1 and a half years to complete the script & sound design took 3 months
some deleted scenes from the edit & script level -
this one they shot and cut it out, he killed a person with a door, but he did not die, he then had to pull him out, take him to a window and kept punching him till his brains popped off
in wash room sequence there where 2 more people he burnt alive, he kept the zippo lighter inverted and the fluid was flowing down, he kept the door open and when the came near the door, he pushed them inside and threw a burning object and shut the door and they were burnted alive,
If You Want to Know The Behind The Scenes Making of the film, so on the "Dharma Productions" UA-cam Channel They Have Uploaded a video called Making of the train Kill, you will like it.
As SS Rajamouli - The Director of RRR said - if there is no emotion backing the action then you will not feel the action scenes in more deeper way. if the emotional states are high and personal then you will connect to the action even more, whatever the emotion may be. and that's what makes kill and even john wick so special for us
This is based on real event where a Gorkha Indian Army soldier stopped a robbery on train (30 to 40 decoits ) and also killed 3 in process with his kukri. The director also mixed in a little bit of his own real life experience of a bloodied robbery on train.
I saw this film at a local cinema the other day. There were only two other people in the theatre. I loved the film. I haven't seen an action film that good in a long time.
I didn't expect this review! I have to say thank you for this. For I was sorta sad when i entered into a sparse theater and had probably one of my top ten action theatre experiences.
What a week for Indian cinema!
I just watched it on Friday! Loved the action as well as how the story allows audiences to decide whether violence at this scale can ever be justified. So excited to see this review, Dan. ❤
So happy to see you review Indian movies!
I like that Indian movies are getting mainstream attention. I hope the American remake doesn’t dumb it down. I’m always amazed how few remakes maintain what made the original so special even though the decisions are entirely in the hands of the adapters. If they don’t think American audiences will respond to the original, why buy it?
They probably like the core concept of those foreign films, but think certain cultural differences won't translate well for the majority of American audiences. I have a hard time understanding Americans reluctance to watching foreign films with subtitles, so maybe I'm not the best person to answer your question.
@@matiasdevaglia4541 Yep. Oldboy was an example. Lack of guns for most was a product of the culture's gunlaws, but you can't quite do that in the same way if it takes place in America, because you know everyone of those mooks in the fight would have been packing lead.
@@matiasdevaglia4541 With netflix I have been watching movies from across the globe now with multiple audios. Not sure why we need a remake, honestly american voice actors can translate it well for everyone. it would keep the original element and audiences don't need to read the subtitles
Seeing this on Thursday. I've now watched three very positive reviews of it and went from never having heard of it to being convinced it was a must watch.
I'm glad I caught this review. I would have not been interested in this film without your take. Definitely going to watch when I can.
Both the monkey man and kill trailers hooked me, but I think kill was a much better made movie. The action was gritty but still believable and never far fetched like the John wick sequels. The main character went thru so much diff emotions. The bad guys were interesting as well. Didn't even know it would get a remake. Definitely watch this original in the theater first if available
This started playing at the theater where I work and I considered checking it out. Thanks for the recommendation, it’s shot way up on my list.
I have been wanting to watch more foreign films so the timing is perfect
Just got back from the theaters - this was an outstanding flick!!!
Oo it was already on my radar but now that you recommend it, I'll definitely check it out this week
Woot! Adding this to my watch list!!
Convinced me to give it a watch. Hopefully, I can find it nearby.
Very good action flick. I really liked the value placed on the relationships between characters as well. When a good guy or a bad guy got captured or killed, their respective sides felt a sense of urgency about the loss.
Having the entire gang be one large clan, and a connected family, was a subtly brilliant idea
Just watched this. Didn’t even know about this movie and had no plan to watch until I saw both Dan and Chris Stuckmann gave high praise. It was such a satisfying viewing experience
Point from where commando flip his switch from containing to kill mode..it made me want more and more…nothing was redundant….after a long time i wasnt bored of action..
I saw this last night based solely on this review. Was not disappointed. Thank you!
4:49 He did in several TV shows before finally appearing in film with this. He did have a martial arts background though.
I hadn't even heard of this but it looks awesome! Thanks for doing the review
It got the title of most brutal Indian movie , so it's a highly recommended movie
Where did you see it in a theater?
25 minutes in, I was thinking, "It's going fine so far, but no way this movie is gonna keep my interest for almost 2 hours with this premise and setting."
I was so wrong. This is one of my favorite action movies from India (and I have watched a lot of Indian movies).

Oh mr dan u made my day by reviewing this movie which also blew my mind..but the sad part is despite it being such an amazing movie its not doing the box office it deserves even in india

Thanks for putting this on my radar, Dan! Haven't seen a movie in forever, will try to check this one out
Hope this premieres in my country!
Went to see this at a superscreen matinee screening on Dan’s recommendation and wowza! Truly great movie and one that stands out in the genre. Proud to see this type of movie from Indian film makers!
The name of the movie's antagonist is Raghav Juyal aka "Cockroach". He is a superb professional choreographer and a fabulous dancer.
I'm from India 🇮🇳 and I can tell Indian action films are generally substandard.. I always used to think instead of spending so much money on the salaries of established actors why can't they spend the budget by hiring action directors from South East Asia and creating a better product. That is exactly what this production house did. They hired an unknown actor for lead and a stunt director from South Korea🇰🇷. The lead actor had to be trained for 8 months.. The supporting actors were trained for more than 4 months.. The stunt sequences had to be rehearsed multiple times. Hats off to this director and the production house 🏠The results are clearly to be celebrated. You appreciated the lead act , sound design and the music. Rightly so. I like to give a shout out to the cinematographer because shooting in tight spots with limited lighting is a huge challenge. Good work by the editing team as well. Now I can proudly say India 🇮🇳 can produce good action films as well.
Seeing it this week!
Great review 💥🏵️
WOOHOOOO! THANK YOU DAN!!
I will 100% watch this on streaming to help support it as much as possible (I live in the rural midwest... it is not available to see in theaters) the way I have w/ other Indian blockbusters like RRR and Enthiran (I'm still learning the cinema, gotta start somewhere)
Bro in India , no one calls enthiran a blockbuster
RRR and Kill are definitely worth watching ❤
@@HiteshkrNEET I understand where you're coming from. Enthiran isn't exactly RRR or Kick in terms of quality.
But... by any definition it's ablockbuster. It was the #1 Indian movie of the year in 2010 and either the #2 or #3 all-time highest grossing Indian movie of all-time (#1 Tamil movie of all time) when it finished its run.
Stupid, dumb, low-brow cheesy fun? Yes. Blockbuster? Yes. Something to be proud of? ... Not for me to say
The numbers wholeheartedly disagree with you.
Are you next going to say 2.0 isn't a blockbuster?
@@yondie491 listen man
Making a movie financial hit is easy in India PPL are so emotionally excited to see their fav actors and actresses . Movie production company also play this trick for earning Money cuz they don't have a great story.
What makes a movie great of the all time? Box office collection , no
. It certainly it's camera angles , editing , story line and most importantly a message that a movie leaves in the heart of PPL .
RRR: leaves a message of commited male friendship
KILL: leaving a message of justified brutality with a love story
But what robot 1.0 and 2.0 gives to PPL , they were just overhyped & exaggerated. If you yourself ask foreigners and Indians "is robot 1.0 or 2.0 your favourite of all time ?" they will simply say a big No.
A movie doesn't need established actors or hypersexuality to become a success if it has a great story.
@@yondie491 just to remember you , I told noone calls it a blockbuster ( i didn't say robot 1.0 & 2.0 is not a blockbuster by the numbers it is )
@@HiteshkrNEET don't shame our own cinema. Most see it as a success.
I started listening to this review as it was clear Dan was so positive on it and immediately went out to see it. It was incredible!
Great recommendation, Dan!
The tonal change reminded me of the Nic Cage film Mandy
I was amazed by Raghav Juyal’s acting.. from Dance reality shows to this acting level..
Pretty good
Dan, please please please talk about Scavengers Reign! It's one of the best shows I've ever seen and needs all the love it can get!
Thanks for the review. This was not on my radar, but after watching the review I immediately went to see if it was playing at my local theater. This might be in the top two favorite movies I have seen in the theater this year (though admittedly, the amount of movies I have seen in the theater this year is down from previous years). I don't think it will gain the attention that John Wick ended up getting - but can see it having a loyal fan base like Raid: Redemption gained.
My only gripe with this movie was the runtime.. 1 HR 55 mins is a bit much. This could have easily been 90 mins , but still a fun bloody ride and the subs were fairly accurate too
I hope u also review kalki with indian crowd. But maybe u wouldn't like it that much since it's based on indian mythology connected to future sci fi setting
First half is boring
Nothing wrong with indian mythology and sci-fi, the problem is that the action sequences are not remarkable
Remember the main guy does not kill anyone until the title Kill appears on screen, after that the spider-bot in him activates the kill mode.
Well put. Can't wait! Please watch it in theatres!
Interesting how two movies that take place in India about a main character seeking vengeance came out this year. Monkey Man and Kill.
Anyone know which they prefer more?
Kill is what i wanted monkey man to be. Monkey man was a bit preachy and virtue signalling
Yes!
Thank you very much!
I’m planning to see this movie in 3D! I would have thought it would be playing in more theaters near me but it seems the Hollywood distribution was too low compared to the Indian distributors who regularly release movies in my area every week in multiple theaters and languages. If you haven’t already seen Kalki you should and I hope you do more Indian movie reviews in the future.
Thanks Dan
I had no plans to see this movie at all, now I'll be seeing it tonight
Watch Kalki 2898 as well, i want to hear your thoughts on that 🤔
You should watch "Maharaja".
Needless to say, you're a great reviewer. I just came to see your thoughts on the movie for about 4-5 minutes, and i didn't even realize how i just ended up listening to your entire review because everything you said were reasonable and nothing extra. Great job, really
We saw a trailer for this before Monkey Man back in April and it looked awesome! For me personally it might be a bit too much gore so I will probably skip this (and I'm saving for my visa renewal) but I hope it finds a worldwide audience because the craft on display looks absolutely stunning!
Kalki 2908, Chandu Champion, and Shrikanth I've seen within the last couple months, summer 2024. I'm not Indian, and I don't speak Hindu, so I appreciate that subtitles are the norm. With many of these Indian films it may be a challenge to find an English review to get an idea of what you're going to get. What you don't get is much time to book these films. They can show up for the day and, poof, gone.
Shrikanth followed a guy's journey after getting kicked out of a special school for the blind. The school took his walking stick, his eyes if you will when they sent him out the front door... into traffic. Great scene.
Chandu means "looser" apparently. So Chandu Champion is "looser" champion. Yeah, its a sports movie, with some interludes and a good one.
Kalki 2908 is a Sci-Fi. romp most people probably didn't know they could see in theaters last week. Think Mad Max meets . . . I'm not sure exactly what, but it was great fun for those three hours!
I didn't see Kill this week, so I don't know that I've already missed it for good. You get your money's worth with this Indian films. Wanted something a little different and still very good, usually? I'm jazzed to see a regular English review of ANY Indian movie. More please!
Chandu champion is based on the first indian Paralympic olympic gold medalist’s life
Kalki is a Indian mythology meets Hollywood sci-fi inspired but still rooted and both Srikanth and Chandu champion are biopics of real people. I really hope you get to see more Indian films.. some that I absolutely want to recommend are Kahaani & Drishyam (Thrillers), Sardar Udham (Historical), Bajirao Mastani & Lootera (period melodrama), Barfi and Piku ( Slice of Life).
I hope you do get to watch them on OTT or otherwise :)
Murrell man reviewing an obscure Indian movie?! fuck yeah babybayy!
I really enjoyed it and loved the action but i kinda wanted more. On your scale I would give it Its Good raiting.
Indian guy here , I watched this movie 3 hrs prior and can't forget the action scenes...never have I seen that stuff except John wick
One of the best Indian film after quite a while ❤❤
For a minute I thought the subtitle was part of the original title of the movie
Nice to see Dan cover Kill
Hey Dan, your thoughts on Kalki 2898 AD?
The actor who is hero in this movie used to be the lead actor of the biggest indian serial called porus. I think that serial had the biggest budget, that's why he's so natural on the screen. He used to play the role of king after all.
and villain is new actor who is actually phenomenal dancer by profession .
This year you should make 2 list at the year end, your best hollywood movie, and your best worldwide movie
Went to see this after watching this review, it is terrific
Maxxine was really good and I surprisingly loved Sound of Hope.
Yeah, looking forward to this. However the remake turns out, hopefully this attracts an audience. It would be nice if foreign-language movies could regularly move beyond the limited or specialty release space in the West.
Twilight of the Warriors is another international action movie that deserves a mention
i watched it in theatre, with very few women...there were scenes which made me stand up from my seat! i felt the movie was epic when i felt the interval came so quickly and when movie got over! the ending song is masterpiece.
Thanks for the recommendation! This sounds like a great date night movie, can't wait to watch
