But once they see the two on the ballot, then moderates and left leaning Republicans will vote for Biden, which will mean he will narrowly win again.

No. Not correct. There is great concern among conservative rural folks. I am 54 and have lived in these areas all my life. There is a deep anger, that is true.
And for good reason. Inflation, high taxes and other factors, mostly economic stress.

But once they see the two on the ballot, then moderates and left leaning Republicans will vote for Biden, which will mean he will narrowly win again.

The polls almost always favor the incumbent early on election year.
The polls also in 2016 and 2020 were skewed toward the Democrat. Biden was polling 8% ahead this time in 2020. But on election it was 3% ahead. Thus instead of 2% ahead in aggregate polling, Trump is more like 5% ahead.
Worse for Biden is that Trump is leading in all swing states.
The polls clearly show the voters have soured on Biden. He's losing voters from many demographics. He has no path to winning left.
