- Hey friends! I figured that doing the Mid Year check in or Freakout Tag would be way more fun with friends, so I invited @KaysHiddenShelf and @AndrewsWizardlyReads to hop on for a chat about our best and worst reads of 2024 so far! The three of us have read over 100 books collectively this year, so we had a lot to talk about! I hope you guys found some new book recommendations to check out in the second half of the year. What were your favorite and least favorite reads of the year so far?

"I forgot to bring my popcorn"... thanks for speaking my mind Kay 🤣🤣
A collaborative mid year freak out is honestly the way to go, I love this!! And the shadeee with some of these answers lol 😝
Lol it's always chaos with Wiz and I, and Kayla is very patient. XD I'm glad you enjoyed, Esmay!
First of all, this was so much fun!
Second, I practically fell over when you said you're anticipating Riven Earth, Tori! I'm so honoured, I have to get these books to you asap!!
Third, Nomads of the Sea is my next sight read! Blood Stones for audio 😝
I am SO psyched to read them! Honestly. I hope you have a fabulous time with both Blood Stones and Nomads!
I THOUGHT THAT WAS YOU 😂 your covers rules
@@AndrewsWizardlyReadsSo kind of you to say! Andrew (Maleski) did a fabulous job! 😁
@@ZOMGfantasy Excited to pick up your duology soon
THIS IS SO PURE 🥹🥹🥹
Sooo much fun to watch :P I'm with Esmay and Kay: Popcorn!!! :D
🍿😂
Hannuvar from Lord of a Shattered Land is such a great character!
I can’t wait to meet him!
THIS was great! Favorite audiobooks of the year!! 😁
Dream team! What a fun collaboration of awesomeness!
Thanks!
I loved the Hexologists so much, really enjoyed a married couple who actually liked each other and it wasn’t a trope in the plot.
We need more of that in fantasy, 100%!
Awesome video! Man, there is so much stuff I need to get to, lol. And it continues to grow...
A constant problem!
This is sooo fun to watch. You 3 added soo many book to my tbr.
Yeeessss 🤘🏻😂
My favorite of the year was Seasons of Albadone which became known to me via TORI. Worst, well, I guess Web Of Angels, Heavenbreaker, and After World, the last by Debbie Urbanski, which I just DNF this morning.
The other day this happened:
My dumb but fun thing I did today. A few days ago I did a review for A Contract in Sol Forne, sequel to Seasons of Albadone (My favorite books this year now). I posted it in Wizards Enclave and someone quoted it and said they were glad I liked it. I gave them a thumbs up. Time passes. I checked back later and happen to look and see...it was Christopher Warman, one of the authors who said they were glad I liked. Teehee. I thanked him profusely.
And BTW, they plan on 5 books.
SO thrilled you loved Albadone!!! It's so good. Chris is a great guy, and he's pretty active in the Discords.
@@ToriTalks2 If there is one thing I like about social media, it's having occasional run ins with authors.
Been needing to read Pratchett. Bought City Watch Guards! Guards! -Palmer
It’s so good! I hope you love it, Palmer!
Red Rising is an amazing trilogy. Full stop.
You three seemed to have a lot of fun. Glad you shared. Tori, if you want some fun female characters in Manga, you must must must read Azumanga Daioh. It is a fun slice of life manga about a group of high school girls and their eccentric teachers. It is only 4 volumes but reads as fast as a newspaper comic strip. I think you will enjoy it.
I'll check it out! Thanks for the rec.
We do get up to some fun shenanigans. Kay and Andrew are awesome. :)
I second that recommendation. Slice of life is usually not my genre but i love two. Azumanga Daioh being one and The Way of the Househusband being the second.
Also Claymore have some great female characters too. I guess you could compare the women to witchers a little bit. They're more than human, have white hair and yellow eyes and dedicated their lives to fight monsters/demons.
Not sure how well i'm doing at selling the manga. I always feel inadequate in doing that. 😅
I also have Dracula on my tbr i need to finally read. Especially since i just bought a retelling of Dracula by the danish author Kenneth Bøgh Andersen.
Whoop !!! Mid year check in
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Andrew😂😂😂 your Waking Fire response 😂😂😂
🤣😂😂😂 he said 😑
Hehe
Curse of the Mistwraith made me cry. -Palmer

Lord of the Flies 😱🥺😫
Youll read it quick but recovery will take much longer 😬
I cannot wait for Mushroom Blues on audio 🤓
@@ithrahmunchswallow468 oooh good choice!

Best so far: Death’s Beating Heart by Rob J Hayes. The last two books weee the best in the series for me
Worst so far: Murder at Spindle Manor by Morgan Stang. This one just didn’t click with me so it is my lowest rated book this year at 3/5. It’s been a good reading year overall for me.
I'm so glad you're loving the Hayes series. I still need to get to that one.
I wasn't a big fan of Spindle Manor either.
I need to get a better microphone
You sounded strong man!

Better than Blood Song!!😱😉
I know!!! 😱😱
@@ToriTalks2 did you read the short stories before Blood Song? Many are the Dead is a fabulous novella.
@@ithrahmunchswallow468 no I haven’t yet!
Lord of the Shattered Lands is good but not great. It is all about one character. The other characters are props. I cannot wait to hear a woman's opinion on the female characters.
