Zara and cal Tumbles correct! I also did that, having 3 males and 1 female, stresses the female out because it’s being chased repeatedly. So it’s recommended to have 3 females per male 😁
Ok, she didn’t “ give birth to beautiful colorful babies “ if they are at this time several months old, they might be colorful. But they are not born that way. They’re born translucent. No color at all, except maybe a tinge of grey
@@calmillerrr9140 you put guppies in the same tank, ALL females exposed to a male WILL end up pregnant. Guppies are THE easiest fish to breed on planet 🌎 BAR NONE only species that even comes close are mollies. Not even convict cichlids ( they are machines)
I started breeding guppies by mistake, I bought feeders as literal food in a non filtered aquarium for some firebelly newts, and they bred faster than they were eaten, so I started mixing in fancy guppies to spice up the colors. Those suckered are like rabbits, I've probably made hundred of "new designs" and never thought of it that way, just thought "ooh! That one turned out pretty!" Cool video, man!
Hooray and thank you! I finally got my first batch of guppy babies! They are so cute. (I am casually breeding them in the main tank, but did try moving the pregnant female, but she started to look too stressed so I moved her back).
OK, question: In my main tank, I seem to have fish 'disappearing'. I don't know what's happening to them. Are they being eaten by other fish? Or getting sucked up into the filter? Any ideas? This is different from fish which occasionally have died and float. I just added a bunch of 'teenage' fish to the tank, and before long.. they weren't there anymore.
A few methods XD just put a male with a female those things reproduce so fast but I love breeding them so much I started with 30 in my pond in the beginning of spring by next spring there had to at least be a 1000
i had 4 of them in a ten gallon in 1 month there was like 40 in and i did not try to breed them i just wanted guppies and my baby turtle grown out of that tank so i put some in my big 55 gallon tank and yeah so thats how i make the breed not to big so i get like 80 fish
@@ahahaha239 I have two different strains of males with 5 of the same species of females in a heavily planted 20 gallon tank. I'm hoping to get some new colors and species.
I've had mine for a couple months now. They are adults, but still haven't had babies. I have 2 males and 2 females; the males NEVER chase the females, I'm not even sure if they've tried to breed them. I really want more of these guppies (They're hybrids, so I can't just get more. They're pretty unique)

I’m interested in doing causal breeding. I don’t want to do a whole lot of intervening. What is the best way to keep fry from getting caught and clogging up the filter?
Use a sponge filter or you can wrap a piece of pantyhose around the suction part of your hang on back filter. Also, place your hiding places on the opposite end of the filter in your tank. That’s where your fry will go to hide from the adult fish. Good luck!
I keep accidentally breeding guppies , I keep realising that the fry were born too late. My most recent ones were Endler guppies , which I put in a net trap with giradinus metallicus black fry which I had bought with a pleco (That's a mouthful to say) And now I've got 3 1 week old guppies in a net most recently , which are doing well.
Everything I read says to remove the adults but for me it would be better to remove the fry and leave the adults in their tank. If I have a second tank set up can I remove the fry to the second tank?
Just starting out and I baught 6 females 3 males in a 65L tank with 2 average sized plants with quite a bit of cover and 2 females died but now we have about 30+ guppies and I've had to buy a 180L tank but I'm wondering would it be a good idea to switch as there still seeming to breed more and more?
I have about 30 adults and about 100 fry in a 2ft tank. There are only dwarf panda guppies and Rams horn snails in the tank. It is very heavily planted with 2 larger sponge filters that I clean maybe every 9 months. I also feed them 3-4 times a day when I want them to breed and when their is fry. But lots of bushy plants are needed for the fry and to keep the water clean. I rarely do water changes but if you are only new at it do a 1/4 to 1/3 every 4-6 weeks.
hi sir, I did not find my guppies breeding in tub,I mean when ever I watch I did not find them,Mean are they breeding when I am absent,I am not understanding,do guppies breed in front of us like mollies???please reply sir.
Hey, if I have 2 red guppies same colour, and they breed. Would I get back a batch of the same red or would I get different varieties of guppies like different colours and tails.
would you recommend separating colors into their own tanks? I plan on buying 3 different breeding pairs. can i house them all together ? or better to seperate the pairs
Depends on the temperament. I breed guppies as a hobby and my strains produce naturally dominant females and males who don’t like to fight. So for me? I’m just fine with a 6:2 male:female ratio.
I have a question the 3rd way is to separate the female when shes about to give birth right??? Its true they will be stressed but i heard from a vlogger before that adding a bit of salt will help the female guppy to be less stress. Is this true???
She will get fat and then her tummy will get squared off. Also the dark spot near her tail will go darker and you will be able to see little eyes if you look closely.
There’s observation of the shape of the female’s stomach shape, which can be unreliable as overfeeding produces similar effects to a pregnant female. The Travis spot can be mistaken for the digestion all tract, but you can usually tell when the fry are coming in lighter colored females, noted by individual fry shown in the breeding tract. There’s also using lights to check for the shadows of the fry’s bodies, but this is not a good idea unless you’re sure it’s near her release date.
so i successfully got my guppies to breed for the first time and today my guppie gave birth to 22 fry, sadly 6 of them died just minutes after birth. does anyone know why this might hav happened? is it normal?
Charlotte, some strains are naturally yellow. What color was she before? If it was a dark grey or black, it could be that she’s been shedding her stress rust. If she was red or orange, she’s fading, which isn’t good.
There’s no real way to safely do it. Gut loading increases nutrition intake, but shortens lifespans. Larger spaces are harder to heat and reduce chance of finding food, but decrease chemical concentration and free up more space. Cramp growth is a commercial method and drastically increases chance of death and lowers life expectancies. Increasing warmth also shortens lifespans, usually since it’s paired with gut loading.
You need to learn the difference between "species" and "variety" ... Species indicates a different kind, where as variety, indicates a variation in the same kind ... (it's still a "guppy"!)
TomEmBombEm you can like breed them in every thing lol just make sure they don’t have diseases and defects because they could die with the babies or spread the defects my male guppy died of fin rot very soon from the fish store 😥
One important point missed. If you have a tank with only females one or more of the females will change sex and become a male. I've not tried it but maybe you could have a male in an isolation net/tank inside the female tank. Not sure if it would work. Personally I use 2ft tanks that are heavily planted and have a large matten filter and feed them 3-4 times a day with a very high protein micro pellet (less than 0.5mm) that is used at trout farms. Plus live brine shrimp and live micro worms. I also remove males if there are less than 3 females to males as the males will stress the females out if they out number them. I also change the pH and temperature a couple of times a year to influence if there are more males to sell or more females to breed.
I’m upset because I got a beautiful rainbow looking guppy and the other fish bully him i do have widows and a supppppppperrrrrr old red tailed shark sooooo yeah
Inbreeding is not the problem. But if there is a hereditary defect in the DNA, it is reinforced with each generation of inbreeding. First of all, it is a good idea to have a fixed breeding group. All offspring immediately. Keep the breeding stock for life. Then the inbreeding doesn't go that fast either. If the guppies look good, you can replace a dead animal with a beautiful animal from the offspring. If you prefer to buy a new one, it's more difficult. A new animal can bring disease and cause disaster. Therefore, put the new guppies in a separate container. And after six months you use daughters from the quarantine group to supplement your breeding group. (For example, you replace all breeding females) If you want to avoid overcrowding, look at the young guppies with a magnifying glass after two or three weeks. The females have a dark spot on the back of their abdomen, near the base of their tail. Separate them from brothers and nephews at that age. Because young males can fertilize their sisters and nieces within four or five weeks. The female stores the sperm until she is fertile and then she becomes pregnant. But if you separate them in time, a female tank and a male tank, the females will grow longer. They grow bigger and you don't have an overcrowded tank.
Yes, that back ground music is AWFUL. Wtf Was that put on this video for? Also no video of any breeding guppies or guppies giving birth, or even any fry!
