- Cabot's tragopan (Tragopan caboti) pheasant courtship display in full
Cabot's tragopan display, this beautiful pheasant is found in China and like all tragopans has an extraordinary courtship display, using a log or visual obstruction between the hen tragopan, the male creeps in and inflates the horns and throat lappet and pumps himself up to suddenly appear over the log to the female who is nearby. These displays are often abandoned if the female is not in the perfect position to view the display and I have observed several tragopan species tapping the log or flicking leaves to attract the female bird’s attention.
The video begins with the female Cabot’s foraging near the male’s display log. Display begins at 0.56 seconds.
This is a captive male, now in his 3rd year

Thanks so much
I'm really into aquatic life and just started looking into birds. This is crazy cool!!!
Tragopans have an extraordinary display, so pleased you found it interesting
When I was 9 years old, we moved to Sealy, Texas, out in the country on prairie land with native grasses. I was fortunate to have witnessed Atwater's Prairie Chickens (grouse) booming in our front yard for several years in the spring. "Prairie Chickens" are not this sleek and flashy, but the Phasianinae family resemblance is apparent. ❤
Wow that's amazing, I just looked them up again as I had thought they were very very rare and yes they are. It's wonderful you saw them as I feel.sadly their future looks very bleak
@lonnarheaj I was up in the mountains in North Carolina and a couple times I've seen this bird on the ground, idk what it was but it was like a gamebird of some kind. It could've been a grouse or pheasant or quail; I called them 'wild mountain chickens' haha. Or 'the Blue Ridge Mountain Chicken'. Lol.
SPECTACULAR!
This bird is so pretty/ handsome. It is feeling blue, longing, and searching for a love one. That's why it is at the highest place or mountain and so it can see every where just to see if he/ she can spot that special someone. So sad. Thanks for sharing!
so glad you enjoyed the clip, they are beautiful birds
this is absolutely one of the most incredible things I've seen in a long while. thank you for sharing.
thank you so much, I love these birds and am so pleased to share their amazing display

Thank you, the Cabot's tragopan is amongst my favourite
Wow 🤩 amazing
It’s not as colorful as the first one I saw, but it is still very bizarre non the less.

lol. That is great!
Amazing
Wow ❤
looks like a bird from another planet
It does, a complete transformation in a few seconds
Nice video!!
There is one that has yet to be filmed. The one from the Blyth's Tragopan (Tragopan blythii)
Thanks Aerick, I agree, the Blyth's display is not really documented. I have seen a very old video of the Blyth's Tragopan with his lappet briefly displayed (the lappet is very small and quite plain and half the size of the Satyr Tragopan lappet which you can see in one of my other videos)
@@jonathanpointer9578 I've never seen that video before.
Thought I would really love to see full documentation of that species, including the Western Tragopan.
Lindooooo demais DEUS criador 👏
I am totally humbled by the incredible wisdom of the Creator.
💕
If this were a Pokemon it would be a bird-dino evolution

Где они живут?
Китай
That's same bro.
I can't tell if it's getting ready to eat dinner or to play a rugby match
a bit of both 😄
What's not to love?
Male birds are always way more glorious than the female birds.
Same order is with mankind, the man is always way more glorious than the woman.
ha ha
Isn't this the time when the evolutionists didn't interested to make a comment?
You should know that tragopans are not pheasants.
Hi, I think you are mistaken, they are a pheasant, please search online and you will see
@jonathanpointer9578, actually, tragopans are not pheasants, there are only twenty-five extant species of pheasant: the Northern Blood Pheasant (Ithaginis cruentus), the Southern Blood Pheasant (Ithaginis affinis), the Cheer Pheasant (Catreus wallichii), the Tibetan Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon harmani), the Blue Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon auritum), the White Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon crossoptilon), the Brown Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon mantchuricum), the Kalij Pheasant (Lophura leucomelanos), the Silver Pheasant (Lophura nycthemera), the Siamese Pheasant (Lophura diardi), the Edwards's Pheasant (Lophura edwardsi), the Swinhoe's Pheasant (Lophura swinhoii), the Salvadori's Pheasant (Lophura inornata), the Crested Fireback (Lophura ignita), the Crestless Fireback (Lophura erythrophthalma), the Bulwer's Pheasant (Lophura bulweri), the Reeves's Pheasant (Syrmaticus reevesii), the Soemmerring's Pheasant (Syrmaticus soemmerringii), the Mrs Hume's Pheasant (Syrmaticus humiae), the Elliot's Pheasant (Syrmaticus ellioti), the Mikado Pheasant (Syrmaticus mikado), the Lady Amherst's Pheasant (Chrysolophus amherstiae), the Golden Pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus), the Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus), and the Green Pheasant (Phasianus versicolor).

@jonathanpointer9578, again, tragopans are not pheasants, there are only twenty-five extant species of pheasant: the Northern Blood Pheasant (Ithaginis cruentus), the Southern Blood Pheasant (Ithaginis affinis), the Cheer Pheasant (Catreus wallichii), the Tibetan Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon harmani), the Blue Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon auritum), the White Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon crossoptilon), the Brown Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon mantchuricum), the Kalij Pheasant (Lophura leucomelanos), the Silver Pheasant (Lophura nycthemera), the Siamese Pheasant (Lophura diardi), the Edwards's Pheasant (Lophura edwardsi), the Swinhoe's Pheasant (Lophura swinhoii), the Salvadori's Pheasant (Lophura inornata), the Crested Fireback (Lophura ignita), the Crestless Fireback (Lophura erythrophthalma), the Bulwer's Pheasant (Lophura bulweri), the Reeves's Pheasant (Syrmaticus reevesii), the Soemmerring's Pheasant (Syrmaticus soemmerringii), the Mrs Hume's Pheasant (Syrmaticus humiae), the Elliot's Pheasant (Syrmaticus ellioti), the Mikado Pheasant (Syrmaticus mikado), the Lady Amherst's Pheasant (Chrysolophus amherstiae), the Golden Pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus), the Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus), and the Green Pheasant (Phasianus versicolor), they all constitute the subfamily Phasianinae, tragopans are not pheasants as they do not belong to the subfamily Phasianinae, tragopans belong to the subfamily Lophophorinae, which more closely relates them to monals and yejakuns.
