You can use the fire mantle to give yourself resistance to fire. You get it from beating elder jinchi boss (the secret boss) from ringing the 3 bells.

Really surprised the guru hasn't been doing guides. So many difficult bosses and opportunities for delicious cheese. Game opens up in ch 2, enjoying it more now ch 1 is over.
Bosses don’t actually get tough until around end of chapter 3, and even then many of them are still easy
The one mana cheese got patched. I don't think they can be cheesed. You can be overleveled though.

You should go back and try to beat that big bald headed monk in the secret area. You get a cloak that gives you fire damage resistance. Helps with the bear fight. Also are you upgrading your skill tree? Looked like you had like 20 unspent skill points but I might be wrong.

I finished the game a couple of days ago and I found it to be quite tough. I enjoyed the combat and all but just found the boss fights to be quite long and having to start over each time was tedious. Every five steps with another boss I'd have to learn and it just got old after a while. It was okay but I'm glad to just be done with it.
I agree. Those invisible walls in the game is ps2 -era bullshit to be honest; level design leaves much to be desired. If Dark Souls wasn't genre defining game, this game probably would've never been made. Bossfights are hit or miss, (might depend on your playstyle). But compared to most this years games this still is solid 8/10 for me. SO: GOTY. I hope to see next game from this studio. Gaming industry needs competition.

Honestly its a good game, you’re just dodging on the Souls timing, i find it needs to be more precise because the immunity window is smaller. Just my opinion. Also specing into the damage bonus during stun and using all that time to pump damage speeds up the fights, i pretty much did half black bears hp in my opening rotation of time freeze , headbutt (summoning thing), then the fire transformation. (sorry dont remember all the names of spells}
also the dash attack makes you immune for a second while you have a doppleganger you can use that time to heal before attacking again for the dash proc.
Your missing key item from beating large buddha man in hidden area, you need to ring 3 🔔. Look it up sir

@Tyrannicon, that's a good point. I used to wrestle and do BJJ, and I can confirm this. Even when in the deepest of triangle chokes, all I had to do was summersault, and I would instantly gain invincibility frames and become intangible, passing straight through their limbs and regaining my freedom. I can't believe I let these experiences slip my mind. Thank you, sensei.
Well if you change the game settings and it still resets again, then I can tell this game is garbage. The optimization in this game is complete crap.
