I read his books almost 15 years ago, gave it a shot, there was some progress with memory, but I coulnd't completely overcome mental blocks, so memorizing was good but extremely slow, and for this reason I couldn't begin to use it in everyday life. But now I'm finally beginning to understand what the point is: our brain thinks images, not words. That's what mind mapping is aimed at - switch from word thinking to image thinking, and when this happens, good memory comes as well. Why does this obvious thing take so much time to finally understand? 😃

It seems to be filled with analogies, especially during those two questions.I am having some difficulty with that.
I didn't hear an answer specifically about using mindmaps for schooling kids. Only a story about young people being fed "junkfood"(another analogy that is not explained further) and so homeschooling is a positive signal. Ok, again assumptions not backed up by any real hard science, but no answer to the actual question.
Or the mindmap on a sheet of paper versus software question.
For some reason the hand is better. He goes to explain why:
"Your hand and arm are like a giant pipe, of incredibly complex wires, that goes whoom into the brain. This is a memory tool. It is kinesthetic, ...(and so on)". I have to assume a LOT, assume a lot of things that he says to be true. For example kinesthetic learning is real. But how much of an effect would this thing have on hand writing vs keyboard typing?? Much, little? I just have to assume it's much, and assume it to be true. But is it?! Or are the effects of kinesthetic learning diminishable in this example of hand drawing vs computer editing??
But about the entire lecture. Lots of critical questions pop up in my head whilst watching this, but none really get answered. It is all abit vague and unbelievable to me. So far I understood, he never goes deep at all into the how and why of the things he is saying. Why are colors better than black/blue? He gives some explanation. But what is is based on? On solid science? I did not hear it, all I heard was analogies and some explanations of the brain. But no real science. Is it just me??? I am interested in for example the black/blue versus color thing, but give me something more than analogies and assumptions.

In order to really understand something, you have to get down to the basics. Sure you could teach anyone how to mindmap like you can teach anyone to drive a car. But the real knowledge is anchored when they know WHY, HOW, etc. The crucial questions.. A kid who knows how to mindmap but doesn't know why it's done will not take it seriously or realise it's potential or understand that this is the brain's natural language. He will skip through it like switching channels on TV. bottomline, it's not the same.. I've known about mindmaps for longer but until Tony actually broke it down i realised how crucial it is and now I really respect it as a tool like it's a basic skill to harvest.

Prattly Ponsarello Buzan was educating decades before the internet and youtube. He is a pioneer in learning and memory. Just because you are too young to know that is no excuse for ignorance before making lazy inaccurate comments on a subject. If you had a more rounded knowledge of his work you would not have made that remark (unless you just wanted to be rude).

Jeśli kolorowe notatki rozpraszają, to lepiej z nich zrezygnować :)
