    Came here to find the information that might persuade me into buying a Peak Design strap. You provided all of the information that helped me and would help others in making that decision. Thank you so much for presenting the information in a straight forward easy to understand manner. Oh, and I might be a new Peak Design customer in a few minutes. Where are you Amazon? 🙂

    I actually prefer the seat belt look to the stitched pad look with heavy logo of other straps, stuff like Black Rapid and Optech reminds me of the 1980s. But I agree a Matt finish choice would be perfect! The Outer Shell range looked quite fun but I literally just received my Peak Design strap and Capture clip yesterday!

    Good product and review.
    That being said this is my point of view on what people think of photography tools.
    First off its a tool. Its should be used as a tool and should look like it has been used like a tool.
    Scratched, dinged, worn marks, and dirty. I,m 69 and been shooting 55 years.
    Not one of bodies or lenses look pretty but I'm producing lovely images.
    A large percentage of my customers never see my equipment or me, the ones that do not care. Its the end result that puts money in the bank.

    I am trying hard to decide between the Slide and the Slide Lite. While I only use a Canon M50 with a 16mm Sigma lens, I really like my straps padded, since I am mainly going to use the strap for taking photos while hiking. I am on the bulkier side and don't mind the extra fabric, but I fear it might be a bit of an overkill.

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  3 роки тому +2

      The larger slide is def a solid buy if you like a larger strap, the only draw back is while hiking it is quite wide so it can be a little annoying with a backpack strap compared to the slide light. It may be a lil' overkill but wont be too obscure

    Awesome information. Just a quick question. When the camera is attached to the slide, is it held in place snugly or does the camera bounce around? I am considering a competitor (Camstrap) from France which attaches similarly Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of independent reviews.

    I’m debating wether I should go with slide or slide light. I usually use a Sony A7iii with battery grip and 16-35 2.8 most of the time.
    Which would you recommend for that setup?

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  3 роки тому +1

    Very good review. Thank you. Have you ever reviewed the Peak wrist strap. I use this even more than my peak neck strap, providing security hanging over bridges, buildings or out of a high wing airplane. The thing that bugs me is how tough they are to loosen quickly and get off. It takes two hands to do it and invisible which side will slide, as the other side does not. Thinking there should be a marker or something. Cheers

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  4 роки тому +1

      I have it as well too! I was so tempted to include it in this video as well, I just was at Niagara Falls hang in my camera over the edge to take a photo with the strap on my wrist.
      I kinda find the wrist strap is actually harder to loosen for myself overtime than the larger camera straps, I think I might have just gotten so used to using the camera straps that I haven't noticed how much tension it takes to slide them anymore too, regardless subtle markers are not a bad idea at all.

    Thanks for the review! Would you use the Slide Lite with your 200-600 setup? I'm considering which one to buy and will be using the strap with a backpack on for nature photography. I'm worried the larger strap will be overkill especially since I will use my camera backpack to hike to the location and then the strap for when I'm there. How does the larger Slide do with a backpack on?

      Occasionally you’ll hear a ‘click’ when they touch, but I’ve never had an issue with them causing excess wear/damage to the camera or the strap. To be honest I’ve had more issues with plastic things cracking in extreme cold so I’m biased towards metal hardware

    Ordered the Slide from amazon, but the Slide lite arrived. Really trying to convince my self to keep it, because shipping to/from my location takes a long time. For the most part I'll be using a Sony a7iv with a Sony 20mm f/1.8 (fairly light) and Sigma 24-70 f2.8 (~ 1Kg). I'm pretty sure the lite version will suffice for 90% of what I'll use it for and very rarely I'll be in a position where I wish I had the wider strap. Thoughts from people that have used both, or switched from one to another?

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  2 роки тому

      Oh that’s a really weird shipping issue, you may be able to get Amazon to send you another first considering they completely sent you the wrong item technically/the item you ordered did not arrive?
      I use the light all the time with my 24-70 and quite enjoy it, I only find it a little annoying if I’m out for a very long time and when I want I want a break I just put the camera in a bag for a bit, so it’s def nice and preferably for short outings for
      myself.

  • @anthonymiller8979
    @anthonymiller8979 3 роки тому

    I like the look and narrower profile of the lite but fear it is a bit too narrow for my Nikon f5 at 3 pounds. Still wider than the factory strap that comes with an F5. Tough decisions.

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  3 роки тому

      Yeah I also agree the light has a nicer aesthetic, but even when I'm using a Sony full frame cam for more than a hour the center strap bites into my shoulder a little bit compared to the wider design. With that said you're if you can get by with the factory strap the slide light will be way better, I found the factory strap that came with my Sony/canon cameras to be extremely uncomfortable

    • @anthonymiller8979
      @anthonymiller8979 3 роки тому

      @@ShaneBethlehem Thanks, pretty much every camera I own weighs the same, 3 pounds lol. Nikon F4 and F5, Fuji GW690 and GSW690. Probably smarter to go wide. The Fuji factory straps are only 3/4" wide which is crazy for cameras as heavy as they are.

    Awesome video. I pulled the trigger on the Slide (not lite), but I might already be regretting it? I have a mirrorless system, and I often run between large and small lenses (sometimes a 50mm stm adapted for lighter, and a 100-400 on the opposite side). There is one thing that always worries me though: as I travel I always worry about theft. The removal of the anchor from the slot seems easy, and the material of the anchor seems like a cuttable thread. Have you ever had any issues with it ripping, breaking or fraying? Or theft? I'm thinking of adding a small mod to the anchor plate to give it a more permanent hook (which can be removed, but not tugged off or cut off so easily). But I'd love to hear your take on durability and theft. Thanks :)

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  3 роки тому +1

      The material of the small threads is surprisingly durable. Only one of the dozen anchors that I have is at the point of starting to show signs of wear, but even then there are different layers to the threads and they change color depending on the depth of the damage to indicate if they need replacing and I have not reached that point with any of mine. In terms of 'cutability' I am far more confident in the peak designs traps and anchors than I would be with an average camera strap, I haven't taken a knife to the threading but I can say with quite some confidence you'd be having to hack at it for a little while if you were using anything less than a good set of wire cutters, they're quite abrasion resistant. Before 2020 I did quite a bit of traveling myself with these straps without issue, though I've never had issues with thieving in the past of my camera equipment, I'm more unlucky with bikes 😅
