While I do like the Broadway version of you happened , I feel like this one shows us more of Emma’s and Alyssa’s relationship.

@@jj4998 Not by the time it got to Broadway. It had changed into the Promposal version, with Nick / Kaely and Kevin / Shelby singing too.

Yes, I love that from this version, and the slightly tweeked version that they actually went with for the Atlanta shows. All of Alyssa's little "No's" are lovely. It just shows how much she loves Emma.
While I love this, the connection between izzy and caitlin is just so much stronger. It's amazing
I love how every time Emma puts herself down Alyssa says no getting louder every time she says it like she's trying to emphasize her point that Emma is everything but to her xxx

I see 4 Mean Girls cast members in the ensemble. I wish they kept this version. The way Alyssa looks at Emma during Emma’s verse is my favorite thing ever!
i have this copy of their pre broadway in atlanta, and the amount of cute kisses they did was amazing. i still believe izzy and caitlin’s chemistry is top tier, but theirs is the second one for me.

IT’S REAL OMG I THOUGHT I’d imagined this version or smth ‘cause I saw it in an incomplete bootleg but couldn’t find it or anything about the change afterwards
I love the older version of ‘you happened’ sm and I am disappointed that it’s barely in existence
I agree with you, but as long as we know they were once part of the show, they always will be. I often find myself thinking of these versions, just as much as the final Broadway version. The slightly changed version of this where Alyssa says 'Soon the world is gonna know, your the most exciting secret..' Is on the Atlanta bootleg. The first half is on here, but unfortunately the second half of the show was taken down. Search 'Definitely Not The Prom Slime Tutorial' and you should find it. Hope this helps.
I saw that incomplete bootleg too and I was confused because the version of You Happened there was only the two of them and I thought it was way better

i think the lyrics to the broadway version are good tbh and i like how in the actual show you see the contrast of all the straight couples flaunting their relationships and having these huge promposals while emma and alyssa have to hide behind the bleachers--but in general i agree, i love this version being a full duet between emma and alyssa with them just gushing over each other and it's so cute. i wish they could both have been in the show somehow but i guess that probably wouldn't make sense.

i love that there is a growing amount of non straight couples in musicals! i just saw Head Over Heels recently and I'm glad theater is more diverse than film! (even in film, particularly when there are lesbians, they are often misrepresented)

i’m kinda pissed that they changed this for broadway tbh
justyncase cosplay SAME!!! i loved the idea of seeing a lesbian relationship in this show, but they changed it so it focuses too much on the comedy aspect. this was the ONE LOVE SONG FULL THEY HAD AND IT WAS SO IMPORTANT
You already have Dance With You and Unruly Heart. Although I like this version, the final one provides a good contrast. Something more hectic and high-school-like.The comedy aspect brings in more people who've never listened to a musical in their lives, and that's important when spreading a message like this. At its core, it's still about Emma and Alyssa and their journies of self-acceptance and how that cultivates their relationship, but the comedy brings everyone in. Even though I am a lesbian, I probably wouldn't listen to this show or try and find old clips and interviews (and bootlegs of the curtain call) if it took itself too seriously.
I hate that they traded the kiss at the end for a hug. I mean they still kiss but that's at the very end of the play. Still loved it though.

I do prefer the lyrics to this version compared to the Broadway one. I also am disappointed that it's no longer a duet for just the 2 of them, but I think the new version makes a point. While the straight, "normal" couples got to be extra and flaunt their relationships with the promposals, they were behind the bleachers and had a more secluded promposal. So though I like this one better, I also like seeing the contrast in the new version too.

Ok, so I don't know how the plot works in the show, but...I could almost see this version of the song being used as well as the one now used. This one could be used as a "video" attached to the article that drew the Broadway stars to the town, and the other could be used the same way, just called a reprise or part 2. Again, no background on show minus what I learned from cast recording but still.
