Available in titanium? If not, it should be. Titanium is durable, but also slightly softer than steel and aluminium and would absorb even more force. In theory, I think. (Titanium's softness also probably explains why 15 pro backglass shatter more easily than 14 pro
While I do find the “fun” drop tests where people drop a phone off a roof just that -fun-, I thoroughly appreciate that you conducted your tests under all too believable circumstances.
I appreciate your comment! Honestly, after no iPhones were smashed, I was kind of “disappointed” because UA-cam is all about the views, so for something like that to happen, it would be more “interesting” to watch. But I am glad I was able to show the results of a real test. Thank you for watching
You should always drop them higher than what people will normally drop them. Many phone cases are certified to 10-13ft. I think 10ft would be ideal. More than 95% of cases will survive 3-4ft drops.
I drop my phone alot and the only times it broke was on uneven surfaces .Would like to see the drops on different surfaces such as uneven concrete /brics ,stairs ecx. Like the video tho good review 👍
Bouncing is very interesting from a physics standpoint. Plain English version comes after technical explanation: 1. Physics version. Bouncing means the Force Normal (F𝑛) from impact reverses the momentum by 180 degrees. An acceleration of ⍺ gets converted by the F𝑛 to -⍺ (when considering the ⍺ as a vector magnitude.) This means a a "pure bounce" yields a total swing in vector acceleration of 2⍺. In a pure bounce none of acceleration component of the force is absorbed. 2. Plain English version. We think of impact as bad if we imagine dropping an egg and all the impact is absorbed into shattering the egg; and imagine impact is good when we imagine a rubber ball bouncing, because almost none of the force was absorbed in impact. However, there are some problems with applying this analogy to a phone in a case. 1) We actually WANT the case to absorb impact without transferring it to the phone. 2) If little force is absorbed, that means the phone will continue in motion. It may bounce and travel a couple meters, bounce again and continue travelling, bounce again and 3. When very little force is absorbed, you're going back up again, then down again, then up again, then down again, just like a bouncing ball, making for a greater number of REPEATED impacts and more opportunities for the phone to spin and land at a compromising angle. In addition, since you're impacting 7 times instead of twice, you got 7 chances for it to find a vulnerable part of the phone, and 7 different parts of the phone getting scuffed. The sweet spot is for it to bounce only 1 or 2 times. 0 bounces is too much impact all in one go. But bouncing all over is multiple repeated impacts and leaving the phone to bounce several meters away, giving a much bigger radius to find somewhere bad to go, like under a speeding car, into a sewer, and so on.
Great video man, nice quality, shots and content, you practically used all the cases I’m interested in, and now I feel safer knowing that all are good choices. Greetings from Mexico.
This is great thank you so much. For your next video could you try from chest height as well as knocking off the table? And also could you do a multi drop version (so review it after 1 drop, then after a set of 3 waist high drops, for example). I'm the type of person who drops their phone at least once a day and I think it's easier for one drop to be a fluke but if it can survive 4-5 drops then you've got assurance!
In reality, these cases are designed for the average. In my experience, the average phone drop is from waist height onto a hard, flat surface, landing flat or on a corner. That happens to me probably 2-3 times per year. If a case can survive that without damaging the phone itself, I'm happy to replace the case a couple times.
Chest height is more common. It's about a 6/5 ratio. Waist falls are from pocket fumbles and slips off tables. ANY good case survives these. But since chest height happens almost just as often, it's the one you need to test. Chest height is when you're actually using it.
Arc got lucky. There are plenty of angles/instances in which the sides would get hit. It's not the same for other cases, because most of the other cases have bumpers that extend out past the screen, and the sides of the phone are simply not exposed at all.
Glad to see ESR made the list, I have a stronger ESR case, it's a full enclosure, so was looking for opinions on that, based on seeing this version do quite well, that's satisfying.
Thanks for the drop tests! I like cases with fun colors and designs like CaseMate and Velvet Caviar. I would love to see those, and others like them tested. My CaseMate phones have never been damaged in a drop. Usually only small scratches on the corners.
Show the whole footage from the drop, fall and the impact. From the angles that you are showing, it can feel like there is something below to catch the impact, and then another angle to hide the height from where the object came from
It’s more that you can’t film high speed while following this thing drop, so the “ground angle” is where it’s dropping, and the other angle is where you see it fall from my hands. But I might include a total angle too
I have a natural titanium 15 pro max in perfect condition always had a case and screen pro for cameras and front screen was wanting to see if I could get a black titanium 15 pro max instead. Was wondering if you would be willing to trade a black for a natural?
I'm interested in the Ringke case and the price is affordable here in Australia. I just got an iPhone 16 which was an upgrade from my antique iPhone 6+ so am now on the hunt for accessories but as I'm older and not working anymore, I have to go for cheaper options and since I've never bought a brand name case ever I'm going to also look at cheap temu products but will invest in a good screen protector. I've never been a droppy sort of phone person but with age comes instability and I've broken 2 monitors and my Alexa screen so far this year
9:20 Dropped my 14 pro max with a silicon case flat on the screen on some tiles, absolutely OBLITERATED my screen protector. So glad I had it applied, saved me 400 euros.
Damaging screen and damaging screen protector are 2 different things . The protector can be damaged but it doesn’t mean without the protector, it will also damage your screen. I tested myself. Usually the case is designed for the thickness of the original screen.
do you have any drop tests without the protection screen? I wanted to know if it would survive without it, since it would probably make the screen less thick or maybe the phone glass is more resistant, dunno, got curious
The table drop I get. But I rarely drop my phone from waste high. Normally it’s chest high as it slips while I’m responding to a text. I wouldn’t hold it flat before dropping either. Most of them landed purely flat, which I don’t think gives a good test. Angle them just a bit. Let them hit a corner and bounce around from that height. When I drop it from chest height, it slipped, and is usually spinning in some manner on the way down then lands on a corner or side and proceeds to bounce everywhere. My phone is an iPhone 12 Pro with a tech21 silicone case/zagg screen protector and is completely undamaged. My son’s stands iPhone 12 has a UAG and the back glass is shattered.
