A year late, but yeah, everything stated here is exactly on spot. If you wanna go bigger, it’s gotta be done right, and done right cost big. I bought my Tacoma already built, total chaos, kings, leaf under, airbags, everything. I swear it’s one of the trucks in this video, anyway, whoever built my truck, in Colorado, built the perfect Tacoma. And now the baddest Tacoma on South Padre island Texas….
There's definitely a ton of nuance to this topic. You can get away with a very aggressive chop and around a 2 - 2.5 inch lift by playing with tire width and wheel offset. Most 35s will be around 12.5 width. There's actually a ton of great options with a 35x11.50 that will make fitting much easier. That and keeping to a 0 offset or even positive offset. Not so positive that the tire rubs on the inside though. Like a +15mm up to a 0 is the key to easier fitment. Just a few things to keep in mind. Definitely cutting involved either way lol.
Agreed. My third gen is running icon stage 6 approx 2.5ish inches lift and a pretty aggressive CMC like you mentioned. 35x10.50s on 17x7 TRD wheels +6 offset. Very minimal rubbing only on full lock and full compression. Everyone wants the wider tires and they want ‘em to stick way out, . . . Now that’s when you’ll be cutting fenders and the rest of this stuff. My fenders aren’t cut and my 35s are looking sweet. Some people would rather have a daughter in a whore house than consider running PIZZA CUTTERS!
@brosapien5392 my only issue with 35x10.50 is the selection. To my knowledge you can get the Kenda Klever RT & MT. Venom Power makes a couple tires in that size. I think that might actually be it. The selection isn't huge in a 35x11.50 either, but Nitto makes their Ridge, Recon, and Trail Grapplers in that size. Toyo has the AT3 in that size. Even Falken has their new RT01 in that size. Hopefully Falken makes their AT3W in that size. I'm on 285/70R17 right now, so the 35x11.50 would keep the same width I have now but just taller.
@chrisking6695 can definitely work. Just more cutting and fitting. I think you basically require a -10 or -12 to fit a 35x12.50. A 0 works kinda, but will rub most UCAs at full lock. That's why I love the 35x11.50. The more offset you go, the more you rub on the scrub. But if you go wider, you need more offset. Just becomes a headache. -10 isn't too much though. You can definitely get away with it with some patience. Hell I posted this so long ago though that I actually need the 0 offset for the same issue though. +15 causes me to rub slightly on the UCA with an 11.50 so I'll be switching to a 0 soon.
Your right on with cost. Regear, suspension, CMR, fender trim, fender liner, engine tune, rims, tires, about $15,000 from a reputable builder in California. But I couldnt be happier.
Probably the best break down on this subject and the things y’all mentioned I learned through a lot of comb through and reading so that I really appreciate. Currently my setup is 23 Taco with 6112/5160 on hvy OME leafs and OME UCAs on method 701 wrapped in 33 nittos. Full under armor with deck and leer xr. Have a CBI bumper with tire carrier on the way. Truck runs great. I would like to run 35s at some point and this video discussion helped me know I’m headed in right direction👍 but staying with 33s for now
Re-gear and clearance for the body yes. Suspension lift no, not a requirement. What would be beneficial are control arms that push the wheel hubs forward.
Great video boys, really helpful in understanding the topic. Just traded in my Raptor for a 2018 TRD Pro that is on 35s, 6 inch BDS lift and regeared to 5:29. So far so good, just getting used to the MPG hit (even compared to the Raptor :).
6 inch lift on 16 rims on 37s ? Is it bad i drive highway sometimes. I haul materials and sometimes i drive it twice a week. Will it be fine on a 10 hour drive
Great clarity here👍 I have a 23 Tacoma I have the 6112/5160s hvy leads with UCA; run 33s but got the 35 bug now. This helps to start down that path. Gear change is next up. Any gears ⚙️ you recommend?
Regear and Tune > Regear and Throttle adjuster… not sure about the pedal monster but we’ve Leah’s had good luck with Pedal Commanders. Thanks for your input and watching!
You would think by now Toyota would give us more room so we could run bigger tires since the Tacoma is advertised as an off-road vehicle. I myself after hassling with my 02,05,2010 bought new and not having good luck with them off road drive other brands that are for me more reliable cheaper and way easier to modify
i can tell anyone who is curious now... i have a 2017 trd sport tacoma, put a 6" RC suspension lift with 35x12.50 and 20" rims. first year was fine but if u live on rough roads or offroad alot and really stress your suspension, its a nightmare with replacing ball joints bearings and front cv axels. Also turning radius is minimal unless u trim your fenders and a small portion of your frame. looks absolutely mean but the ride and gas milage is horrible. im thinking where i went wrong was buying my lift from RC but thats where im at with it
A lift that isn't a drop-bracket kit does increase ground clearance, just not at your LCAs or axles... belly clearance and approach/departure angles are important too. Ground clearance on your axles is only changed with portals or bigger tires. A lift definitely creates tire clearance, and you may not "need" to lift the truck to fit bigger tires, but what's wrong with upgrading your suspension and making it easier to run larger tires?
quick question i used my tacoma as my daily im currently in process upgrading my suspension to king shocks and total chaos UCA, im looking into buying some yokohama M/T what size should i do to avoid regearing? 33s or 34s?
I have this exact setup except i have freedom UCAs. I run a 285/70/17 at 0mm offset and i’ve only had to trim a little bit of the fender next to body mount- i average 13.5-15 mpg with no regear
So, I’m getting Icon Stage 9 2.75in suspension, Yumkon 5.29, and body mount relocation done this month. I’d like to run 35in tires with that. Am I in the clear? I have the bronze TRD wheels so offset should be good.
Honestly if you have that relocation, the only clearance you’ll have to do is the plastic and pinch welds- other than that you sound like you’ve got all set
I've seen a few videos of tacos on a 6inch lift with 35's and they don't rub, no cutting needed. What's y'all take on this? Only downside ive seen is you have to cut/notch your crossmember but other than that it seems to fit like a glove
We never advise a drop bracket kit. The truck will never drive the same once you cut out the stock frame crossmember :/ It will also always be out of alignment due to the aftermarket bolted on drop bracket. We actually will not even work on a truck that has a drop bracket kit on it! #JustSayNo

On 34” with 3 inch lift no issues no cutting or re gearing.
Did you get any offset on your wheels?
@@north_borne no I have the trd Baja wheels 16 inch +12 offset
@@north_borne too much offset is bad for big tires…at least that’s what I was told.
You probably have a 33.2" tire which is why you don't have issue.

East Coast gear supply should be a good start. I'm looking at 5.29 gearing on my 2019.
Unless you see yourself going to 37s, keep it at 4:88
I went 5.29
Definitely regear for 35s and a banks pedal monster, cause MPG isn’t a coefficient to consider once you’ve made the decision.
Regear and Tune > Regear and Throttle adjuster… not sure about the pedal monster but we’ve Leah’s had good luck with Pedal Commanders. Thanks for your input and watching!
SAS is the way to go with a Tacoma!!
What are those wheels on the truck shown at 1:25? I love those!
Looks like scs rays
How crazy is to run 315/70/17 on q 2.7L tacoma? Cuz thats what i have right now 😅

Avoid drop bracket lifts and Chinese aftermarket parts at all costs.
Love the thumb nail. Hilarious.
Good video thanks you for your opinion!
Having a lift does not change clearance of a tire. You do not need a lift. Also a 35 is only 1” more clearance from a 33”.

what is the front bumper on 0:58 please and thank you :D
Will a 33’s fit on 2” leveling kit with no trimming or modification?
Depends on your wheel offset, tire width, and caster...

I have kings 2.5 and dirt king uniball UCAs on my Tacoma trd pro stock pro wheels on 285 Yokohama Geolandar. No rubbing just viper cut

If someone was running 35s and had done a re-gear, then decides to go back to a 33, will they need to then gear back up?
Depends how aggressively you regear when going up to 35s. If you go 5.29, you'll 100% have to revert back.
would a 6 inch lift need to cut anything with 35s?
I 100% wouldn't recommend any drop bracket lift kit, you're asking for so many issues and not really doing anything to add function at all.
@@mtnyotas I need clearance for my dual dirtbike hitch rack. kinda scraping it everywhere.

Best UCA to run in the South to fit 35’s?
We're big fans of Camburg and DirtKing UCAs.

Running 35s with 4runner limited wheels on my 6” lift 07 tacoma. No cutting needed just needed to add 1.25” wheel spacers all around
Wouldn’t it just make sense to get portals?
If you want to go 37s+ then yes.
How 'bout a 295?
You’ll need a relocate still, can probably avoid a fender trim…
answered all my question. Now the money haha
7-10 grand!? Lol 😢 No labor charges here gonna have to do it all myself and some help
80% of Tacoma owners only needs the oem tire size lol 😆
Looks so beast well beast is the way to go 🤘🏻🫡
Or go 285/75/17 or 295/75 very close to 35s. After all most 35s aren't true 35s
Definitely I’m running 285/75/17 Toyo mt and it’s almost a 35 for less bank
Yea a "34" is also a great option and we actually will have a video about that specific size very soon!
My jeep has a k02, 285-70-17
And when I take a tape measure to it it’s 32-3/4”.. at 38 psi
And they look beefy, along with being very quiet on the hwy
Just get a 6” lift for 35s!
Feel like that would absolutely destroy on road/highway performance. 3 inch maintains the ability to operate the tacoma on the highway
lol not a clue my friend, Re gear WTF. , what. is the gear ratio. ? show you work. pease
35 km3 is 33 😂
Don't like his language
Ok
