Great! Have a Pi with custom compiled libreelec + a hifi dac on my car, connected to the car radio line in. The sound quality is impressive, but I like more Duke or we can’t dance albums than invisible touch 😁
Thank you so very much for this educational video. I have recently picked up a half a dozen different raspberry pies and after blinking in LED was looking for a better use. I too will be visiting my local thrift store in hopes to pick up electronics that I can convert on audio players Happy New Year
I am in the process of building a mp3 player using rpi. I want to use a 2x16 lcd display to show song name and artist. Is any of the distro/software you mentioned support such displays by default? I was thinking of using mpv to play local files but I might end up using plexamp or jellyfin if my rpi2b can talk to my server rpi4b without lagging.
Not by default, but Volumio does have a plugin for character LCDs with an easy to edit config file that lets you define what's shown during each state (Such as music playback and idle) From my personal experience with Volumio on a Pi 2, even playing from a network share (And presumably also Jellyfin, which I believe is available as a source option through another plugin) the only time you may experience lag is if you have extremely large playlists, but that's only when it's loading the playlist into memory before it starts the first song.
Check out the forums for moOde , Volumio, and others - some users have posted LCD extensions that may be useful, although they are unofficial. I also have a 2x16 LCD setup in my other streamer repo: github.com/alanb128/audio-streaming-box
The attention to detail on the pico start up sequence is lovely. Excellent work!
That streamer box is awesome! Prime DIY project right there
Boris, you are amazing. Another triumph of a video!
Thank you!
Nice vidio,
MoOde and RPI Hacker and lover here 😉.
Also love PiCorePlayer for my RPI music adventures.
oh yes, so much needed, been thinking of it for years, since android killed my folder players one by one with silly restrictions
9.20 you could very easily convert those battery tray areas to take a lipo in each instead

Thanks Boris. Subscribed in a heart beat.
Thanks!
