First of all, East 97th street can be called the upper east side but it's really Spanish Harlem. The east 90's is when the transition begins to happen from posh to hood. Second of all, that wasn't a gang. That looked like a group of one, maybe two chronological adults with a couple of fat young teens that they know who came together to do some BS. Gang suggest some form of organization. This was just a time and place thing.

That looks more like one woman, one man, and three teens. Also I would look more into what involvement his step son has with them. Why were they targeting him?! I mean they did run up on him previously. So my question would be what caused that?! Is his step son involved in street activities that he isn’t telling?! I would highly question that young man. I bet anything he is not only the cause, but also probably could have prevented the attack! Just my opinion as a life long New Yorker who has seen many incidents like this play out over the years.
Edit: after reading that his step son is the son of Curtis Sliwa, I totally understand why that young man was attacked! Sorry, but his father spews tons of hatred against many minorities in this city. His father has also wrongfully accused and attacked minorities in this city. Running around talking about they are protecting the city. Meanwhile they only protect midtown around the 50s. Protect the money I guess. Regardless, that young man got what was coming to his father. In my opinion. His father put him in a bad place with his constant hate filled rhetoric. I also wouldn’t put it past Curtis Sliwa to set up an incident like this. He did that previously when he claimed on fox news that an illegal migrant was detained by his group of idiots for trying to harm Curtis. The truth came out that the man was a legal citizen simply trying to get home from work at a construction site. They beat that man for no reason. So I truly think that man may setup a situation like what we see in this video above!
