Well said Armando. It about the tool necessary and not about brand loyalty. Camera equipment is expensive and it's a blessing to be able to use both but it also creates balance which I see you have. Respect looking forward to your filter tutorial. Great vid
So in short, Team Sony (most of the time)
Id take the Canon c70 if you’re filming something that needs timecode and IMO better for run and gun because of the internal ND’s. Also, Canon C70 shoots 4K DCI when the fx3 or a7siii do not. Overall c70 is better for bigger productions like feature films or commercial work IMO.
All about those lights! Also.. the FX3 and A7S3 have changed the game for independent creators.
The FX3 really is an amazing camera for professional video work.
Impressive package in such a compact form factor, beautiful image quality, pro audio, reliable, great ergonomics.
Can compete with much more expensive cine cameras in the market, really is that good.

The FX3 is simply brilliant. Sony really nailed it on this one.
The little aputure light helped me so much. I even take it when i'm ACing and just tell the Gaffer that i got it with me and many times gaf be like: "Oh cool yeah we might actually use that". Great little must have.

Curious why you wouldn't recommend the Sigma Art lenses. I own a Sony GM 24-70 2.8 and I've used a Sigma Art 24-70 2.8. The Sigma is literally 1/2 the price and easily compares. I actually prefer the Sigma. IMO there is no reason to buy the overpriced GM lenses. I also have a Sigma Art 85mm prime. It's also amazing.
Sigma lenses are great, but my experience with them (speaking specifically on Canon) has always been that they’re noisier (autofocus) and are a bit slower compared to L series. Because of this, I chose to get the G Master. I’ve never tried Sigma on the Sony side so that could be different. Didn’t want to chance it, I know GM is more money but it works and is 100% reliable.
I think the c70 needs to be compared more to the fx6 then the fx3 or A7s3.
My workplace has a bunch of A73s and we love them! So I imagine the FX3 is great as well.
For those who may find the 24-70mm GMaster expensive the Sigma 24-70 is a good alternative that gives pretty much the same image quality. And weight wise it's actually a little lighter.
I like what you said about camera brands. It's less about the company and getting caught up in fanboyism and more about how the product fits into your workflow.
You should compare C70 with FX6 instead of A7SIII.

Wholeheartedly agree with you on starting with weddings when you’re starting with videography. That’s what I did (I still do some), but have definitely moved over completely to commercial and branding work. Great video!

Every year, you have a new camera you said the same thing about your new go to camera. For me, i been using the same camera for years. I wish i can afford new camera but in other hand, i rather get lights, grips and audio.
The FX3 is amazing.
I just wish it had internal NDs.
I'm going to rent the C70 to test this weekend.
Update:
After testing the C70, I've decided that I will be investing in the FX3.
It was actually fun and inspiring to use the FX3, and the overall user experience was great. The C70 . . . not so much.
I had the FX3 up and running really quickly, which I didn't expect as I had never used a Sony before.
The C70 felt both familiar and strange. A video camera awkwardly trying to fit in the body of a DSLR like a fat chick trying to fit into yoga pants too small for her.
I'm not what Mark Bone calls a "measurbator", I only care about specs so far as they help me produce better work, so that's why I'm going with the Sony.
I guess the final nail in the coffin is I don't like where Canon is going with their cameras and lenses.
I went to BH to hold both and play with both before making a decision. I went with the C70. The better screen, internal NDs, false color, shutter angle and DGO sensor was the deciding factor. The ergonomics are also better and the buttons make it feel like a true cinema camera.
The Sony has its perks but if the C70 was priced more competitively, I think it would be a no brainer. Just my two cents.
@@WiredInside i just bought the c70 too. I think a huge overlooked factor in this video is the DGO sensor. Retaining all that information during a run and gun shoot where you cant always get the settings perfect is a game changer. Ill pay the premium to have that insurance over the Sony systems any day. the other specs you listed are just the cherry on top
@@calibabyy If you really want insurance the PRORES RAW recording on the A7SIII or FX3 is truly game changer, I should make a video on it because it's mind blowing the C70 doesn't even come CLOSE!

I do a ton of events and I like the relatively small canon file sizes for the amount of information out of them? I would love to see a comparison because it’s hard to believe you can get an hdr image comparable to the c70/c500 image out of the a7 sensor that isn’t dgo
@@calibabyy File sizes are massive haha, it's like 24 minutes of record time for 512GB but again, you can't compare it to a C70, having a RAW signal means the information is there. Also the FX3 and A7SIII use a Back Illuminated Sensor which IMO is better than DGO. In fact, I heard that the new Canon cameras are supposed to get this sensor, this is the future of sensor technology. I am not going to lie... at first I was sooo pissed at the FX3... I was saying to my self why the hell would I buy the FX3 when I already have an a7Siii but boy let me tell you!!! there's something about that camera (not the image they're both the same, not the menu they're both the same, not the autofocus they are the same) BUT there's something magical about the FX3 that makes it sooooo enjoyable to shoot and sadly I do have the c70 but I haven't used once.. I need to sell it and get another FX3 or FX6 whenever they become available. but yes I am a FX3 lover all the way.. and by the way your review on the FX3 was what pushed me to pull the trigger on that buy sooooo Gracias!!! I have the same setup with the external battery and I can shoot 3 days straight with that thing lol

I have been looking at the c70. I had the a7sIII and I liked it.
I haven't come to your channel for awhile but saw your title. I used to be a hobby still shooter that dabbled in DSLR video. I switched from Canon to Sony and pretty much cried about it. I'm not happy. I find Sony confusing and made a big mistake in assuming Sony would come with a great little user friendly manual like Canon does. I've been with Canon for over 20 years so switching to Sony has been a nightmare to the point I just put the camera down and quit shooting altogether. I'm overwhelmed with it. With that said, I always appreciate your videos every time I watch one. You do a great job and give a lot of great info.

In the most basic level, AUDIO will always be more important than VISUALS. ,,, of course it comes to a point of a certain level when audio quality becomes acceptable and then visuals kick in as the main aspect to rate "production" quality ... But try to look at a hollywood movie with poor audio quality and you will see it becomes unsustainable.. you will end turning of the tv .. ... in the other hand if you have a good movie, shot with an iphone with amazing audio, by the end you will probably have forgotten that it was shot on a phone!

Basically, if a camera has a native 4k sensor, high bitrate codecs, and can take timecode, it’ll get approved.
What about the new GM 35mm lens?
In what world do you live that the a7iii is half the price of the c70??
Right? seems like he intentionally inflates the price gap and then completely disregards what the added price gets you. Like if you want the audio accessibility of the C70 or the same quality of ND filters that price gap will start shrinking considerably.
@@joaquinbarlow Actually, you have it backwards. By the time you add all the accessories to match the C70 to the A7SIII the prices goes even higher. Don't forget the A7SIII is a TRUE Full Frame camera where the C70 is Super35 that alone is a massive advantage. Canon does sell a speedbooster to give you a Full Frame equivalent (though I'd argue it's still not Full Frame) but even so you're looking at $600 more and then you lose the advantage of having RF lenses 🤦♂️
Also the A7SIII has IBIS + catalyst for incredible stabilization where you can really do true run and gun without really needing any gimbal. On the C70 I'd be forced to use a gimbal or other forms of stabilization driving the cost even higher. I know Canon has their digital stabilization but honestly It can be quirky and I wouldn't rely on that. Media is more expensive on the C70 and the list goes on. All said in done the C70 is not worth it IMO and this is coming from someone who paid $16,000+ for a C500 MKII and many other Canon cameras.
@@mondobytes Dude you’re doing it again! You commented on this thread and completely ignored the point. You exaggerated the price gap of these cameras by about 1500 USD and ignored its key feature set that differentiates it from the A7siii. I’m not here to convince you to prefer the C70 just to point out that you are not giving credit to what it does right, some of which the A7siii can’t do at all. It’s a bit misleading if you ask me and there seems to be a few that agree.
And just to address your other comments- the full frame argument doesn’t work so good on a camera with a native speed booster (there if you want it or not), ibis+catalyst browse create distortions of the image unless in perfect conditions so it’s not relevant for professionals, and the recording media for both cameras are v90 sd cards so I don’t know what you’re getting at there. Thanks for commenting back! Next time own up to your bias instead of getting defensive 🙃
Can you make a video showing how to get punchy and more magenta shift colors on Sony? It’s legit the only thing holding me and many back going to Sony from canon?
Follow-up - for travel, mini-doc, run and gun stuff but color and image are most important not camera hardware - R6 or a7s3/fx3?

Armando I am interested in the fx35 with the sony 28-135mm servo lens but everyone always talks about photography lenses. Would it be a mistake to go with the 28-135mm over the 24-70mm 2.8?

I'm curious why the video is so dark? It's like the lights are turned off. I watch it in a room on a good, big monitor and it seems dark. Cannot imagine if someone wants to watch it on a phone outside

man i've really been biting my nails over deciding bw these two cameras, would love to get a BF deal on one, but WHAT are you talking about, w/r/t being able to buy 2 of the Sony's for the price of the c70? That's not even close to being true, and yes I realize you posted this a year back but still, it's a bit disappointing, bc I like your vids on the cams, but do wonder if there's bias, given that the price ratio just isn't true at all.

I’d look into Aputure, they have professional solutions at a consumer level price point.
Honestly all Q&A videos need time stamps!!! Please put your viewers first before click through rates. Otherwise you will lose viewers!!! Putting time stamps in the videos actually gets you more views in the long run. All the big time UA-camrs put time stamps in their videos!

FX3 if you don’t need timecode, SDI, and are ok to use ND filters on your lenses.
If you would buy 2 cameras would you buy 2 x fx3s or 1x fx3 and 1x A7iiis to have the different formfactor and for stills ?

@@mondobytes thank you because I'm between the R5 or FX3 . I'm heartbroken to break away from canon being 13 years with them but they are not doing their part. They are handicapping cameras and playing that multi model game so you get the more expensive one instead on releasing smaller amount of models and giving them quality at a reasonable price.
