From the ear of a violinist & a Zep John Paul Jones junkie, I'll say:
It's not a 'modern" version...
Modern technology can't make the original sound.
Stand up bass & Cellos were the original electric guitar sound...
Using modern guitars would be wrong
They know it, found the sound, not the same instruments in a modern instrument version.
I don't care for many modern covers of true classics-nobody should *even* try Janis.
Cellos & stand up basses, from any era, are the only instruments that can cover this sound.
It's phenomenal
Many other countries, what we call a heavy metal music involves violins, Cellos, stand-up basses as they have the strongest sound naturally, of the portable string family, aside from harps, - (without electricity)
I wouldn't call this a "modern version" per se, aside from hooked up to mics for recording purposes, because it requires no electricity.
You can actually get the wild metal sounds of those instruments - curved fingerboards on cellos
Electric guitars have flat fretboards.
Cellos can literally bend notes.
This version is actually older style, than the original.

I had no clue who Jacoby Shaddix was, till he was featured in a Within Temptation song, and since then I am a fan, very cool cover. And Apocalyptica always brings up amazing collabs.

It's amazing to me how much better of a vocal performance they get out of Shaddix than in his own band.

Jacoby has made it no secret he wants Papa Roach to play the Wacken Open Air music festival, so he’s been appearing as a guest singer on a dozen EU bands to get invited.

I heard this version of "White Room" on 95.5 KLOS last night. I love it. This version is more heavy metal. I also love Cream's original "White Room" which is very hard rock bordering on heavy metal.
