This whole thing could have been avoided. Monahan and the PGA Tour were paying out 50% of what they should have been paying the players. That's Michelson's whole gripe. Doesn't anyone find it funny how all of the sudden the PGA can now pay $4 mil for 1st place when it use to be $2mil to the winner? Greed on the part of the PGA. Without the players, there is no tour. Frankly I don't blame those who went to LIV because of the lack of trust for one, and the size of the purses with an easy schedule. Duh, who wouldn't want the same or more money for less work?
FIGJAM wanted media rights.
Totally. What I've been saying to my anti LIV buddies. PGA didn't want to open the books to your point. Buddies are like, 54 holes isn't a tournament. I say a tournament is whatever who's sponsoring it says it is. LIV is a fire hose of money and it's time to drink from it. Afterall we trade with Japan and Germany after what they did...
The real mistake was not letting players produce their own content. They would have taken low pay a lot better if they could also have their own brand.
Media rights of each individual player in exchange for playing privileges, phil understood at the time the players were getting screwed but everyone took the piss on him and his words.

Anyone told Brandel, Freddie, and Jim Nantz yet? 🤣
Lost all respect for Nantz and his side mouth comments. Not his place.

@@Sbcinho Nantz was brutal on the weekend, not knowing the number of strokes twice (once on second hole, thought Scottie was going for birdie, but was a par, and misnamed a player once, and not a LIV player. He has gone past his best by date by a long ways.
What’s affecting the PGA players is the money they missed out on when they had a chance on LIV and now playing poorly wishing they signed on to LIV when the PGA and LIV are “merging” anyway. Basically they had an opportunity to eat the cake and Jay Monaghan convinced them not to.
Didn't your mom ever tell you not to smoke crack?
10:42 "I would rather retire than play LIV Golf!" Rory McIlroy 😂
He’s always been full of it.
After watching him play this weekend, retirement isn't a bad option!
He’s well on his way to retirement
Rory is a hypocrite. Phil is real
Kind of like those people who said they were leaving the US if Trump was voted in.
Neat, would love to see everyone start playing together more often, the masters was great getting to see bryson lead for a couple days.
I’m not a big fan of the narrative that every time there is a major, whoever’s tour is the winner is somehow the better tour. Both sides now have quality golfers.
What a mess. They've dug a hole and decided a shovel was the best way to dig out of it.
As these monied elites continue to beat the hell outta pro golf....UA-cam is going to become the platform folks turn to for enjoyable golf.
You, Pete, Rick, GoodGood, Bryan Bros., Micah, Grant, BDS and hands full of others are transforming golf for the masses. Mia, Gabby, Paige, Clair, Karol, Sabrina and a host of others have changed the face of ladies golf.
I like watching tour events but I look forward to watching online content. No drama. Always seems to feel right!!!
LIV should have their own "Signature" events where the bottom 5 teams on LIV can't play in those and the PGA Tour brings over 3 teams and the DP Tour brings over 2 teams to replace those to compete in these LIV Signature events. Or if they expand up from the 13 teams LIV currently has then you can make it more teams coming from the other leagues...but yeah, PGA Tour Signature events has LIV guys coming over, LIV should just do the same and have their own Signature events where PGA/DP Tour teams come and compete in.
The most logical idea I've heard so far.
Are you still going to have the lousy music, shorts, bicycles, and circus-like shot-gun that my Club has when the 20 handicappers tee off? 'Cause I'm all for that!! I watch LIV and see guys shooting in the 80s, collecting huge checks...that's the life. On the PGA Tour you go home on Fridays, like DJ did at the Masters. Totally sucks.
They need to get the deal done ASAP. There’s gonna be more cannibalization of the PGA tour the longer this goes on. I think the way the thinking man‘s show came up with a solution is the best one so far. Both tours remain autonomous outside of the four majors and then they will have six mini majors where they all get together. That would be 10 in total. Then at the end of the year or every other year, they will have a Ryder Cup style competition between the two tours.
I'd wait for it so long as they get it right.
That sounds decent to me.
The 6 "mini-majors" could use existing tournaments, essentially upgrading them.
On non- Ryder Cup years, have a PGA/LIV Cup.
Done! :)
Liv should boycott ball rollback
It sounds like a complicated load of bullshit to me. If I were LIV I would go at it alone. Screw the PGA. The same PGA that stripped the European Tour of their players.
PGAT had a strategy of maiming the Euro tour and making it a feeder tour, which they almost pulled off....its a disgrace
For Liv I like shotgun start for team play. For singles competition I like pga style. 1 thing I would like to see is a Liv strictly team tournament (with teams from pga as well) that is a scramble event. Captain and crew just like the tournaments us weekend warrior play in. Even if it’s just one tournament once a year… I think it would be fun to see what scores they would shoot
Sounds good to me. And like always, the people with the balls to go into a startup first make the big money. And good for them. Go LIV. One other thing, they need to can Brandel Chamblee.
If it’s true, the DP World Tour would come out worse off. They don’t figure in this new landscape
DP World is another tour that will do exceptionally well thanks to top players playing in Dubai
This is wiiild! and I love it!!! I'm here for all of this! Matt, you're doing a great job! You've had mostly accurate scoops on all this stuff and I love it! Thanks!
Very interesting info and will look forward to seeing how this plays out but I'm not holding my breath. With too many cooks in the kitchen, I'll believe it when I see it.
Yeh that's why there are all playing badly, they wanted to be a captain of a liv team 🤦♂️
Are you the same guy who said V. Hovland was going to Liv within “minutes”
This is also why he’s playing so badly now. He’s regretting his decision not to go already.
Hahaha
He’s also the same guy who said Rahm was going. He was right on that one.
I think what he's regretting is getting rid of joe mayo and that whole situation
Mr Short Game got Anthony Kim right well in advance of anyone else.
if this happens, it just makes golf more broken than it already is....
The more confusing they make it-and the more contentious-the more fans they’ll alienate. The fans will turn away from the whole professional golf thing, and it will die the same sort of death Indy car racing did. Fewer fans watching, fewer commercials viewed, less golf equipment sold, and shrinking game. All because of greed and greed makes for bad golf. Ask Collin Morikawa.
There is no compensation for remaining loyal to the PGA tour other than being able to play more OWGR for more opportunities to play in major tournaments
1) Standard PGAT / LIV / DPWT. Schedule adjusted to accommodate the following. 2) Elevated events from PGAT with top LIV players (20 sounds reasonable). 3) Elevated LIV series with part-time teams from top PGAT members. Fall perhaps? 4) PGAT creates fifth major (Players) and brokers qualification for top LIV members (5 sounds about right)
If your are golfer Pro or Amature you are playing to win. It is difficult to believe that Rickey and JT are not playing
their best golf because they are not going to own a team. I hope they will make a way for younger player to be
able to play in the top tournaments. Good job Matt on reporting this update.
So, in the end we get one unified tour the best players play against each other? Man, I feel like we had this before but I can’t remember what they called it. I think it was the PGA Tour, but I could be off on the name though.
The goal wasn’t to erase the PGA tour. The goal was to get them to stop being fucking scumbags.
@@Bpongs22By introducing a new tour run by scumbags? Got it. Awesome logic.

This situation would not have occurred if the PGA had just let the players play where they wanted just like a PGA Tour player playing on the DP World Tour and go back again.
I thought the players wanted to play LESS...no? I mean, they play 3 days now, and collect 4X. LIV Players have won....the money. Nobody watches, but who cares. @@weldonwillifordrealtor Who is Mickelson to dictate what the whole golfing world does? He's a gambling addict, and a tremendous golfer. 50% of that is really not a good thing.
But what about Kishoggi?
@@wreckim You underestimate the popularity he has/had amongst tour players. He was seen as the veteran player with lots of success and was thought to be influential in making PGA decisions so they all backed him. Kind of an informal "union leader" so to speak regardless of his gambling issues. This is how he and Norman were able to start LIV in the first place since he was able to get so many to join. Much like in small REALTOR organizations as I'm in, most just want to do their job and if someone is willing to step up, volunteer and seems to have similar views most will support them in their organizations. Golf is no different I'm sure. Just like everyone got behind Rory for awhile on the PGA side even though now there are rumors of him leaving as well. They want to get behind Tiger but his "outside of golf" issues are even worse than Mickelson's so he is doing more to divide the sport than helping it right now with his rigid stance on everything. I think compromise is coming regardless.
Sounds pretty exciting. It will be interesting to see what is announced in the near future. I hope they can make it all work so we can watch the best compete more than a few times a season.
Thanks for laying that out. Makes you understand more what a dilemma we are in. This team thing is not going away and was a brilliant idea. First thought was that you probably would need to reshuffle all teams to satisfy guys like JT and Spieth. Maybe even over time as you say. Otherwise the dynamic becomes awkward with captain Rory on the one hand and Kaymer on the other.
I think that would be great. I love golf playing and watching and a crossover like this would make it really interesting
all golf is exhibition, very few watches pga anymore , they need this more than LIV does , LIV needs the points , even with the teams , they are still playing one on one , LIV just is a better for viewers than pga and more exciting
Uhh, the ratings say different.
I enjoy watching the LIV tournaments more than the pga events. No commercials, all the big names play every event and you can watch everyone play in 4-5 hours doesn’t have to be all day
Totally inaccurate
@@Jason-zt9htgolf is not just the USA
@@Jason-zt9ht exactly
Why did the World Golf Championships go away if getting the best players together in international events was the key to success?
The WGC failed because Americans didn't want to play Internationally which is why it ended up mainly being played in the US.
The intention of it was that it was meant to be played across multiple countries, but when players started to complain about travelling it fell in a hole.
Points and Purse sizes on the PGAT, those days are over
Hopefully, this happens. It would be good for golf.
More people watch the home shopping network than LIV golf. 😂😂😂
Look it up I’m serious
Players not playing well because they are not getting a team on LIV? This is a stretch at best.
Could be interesting to have wgc match play as a team match play event consisting of Liv & pga tour players.
LIV is moving with the times pga tour is the same all the time boring
Interesting scenario. Sounds pretty reasonable. All the average golf fan wants to see is the best players playing in the best tournaments. We don’t care about the PGA, LIV, etc. Not sure I’m buying the idea Jordan, Justin and Rickie are playing poorly because of lack of competition. Seems more like they can’t handle the stress of the level they are playing at currently. Would be fun to see that bunch on a team.
You reward for being loyal is you get to play golf sounds ridiculous. They will likely get a lump sum of whatever LIV is paying into the merger. A lot of this seems like wild speculation. Even the starting point of saying LIV is on the same level of the PGA is insane considering no one is watching LIV.
People always say that yet I know plenty of people that do?
I think I actually know what they need to do. Look at LIV as a sponsor, much like Nike or Adidas, and if the guys sponsored by LIV want back in the PGA they must play the required minimum amount of PGA tournaments to stay qualified and play their LIV games if they want to. However, none of the LIV events count towards OWGR, only PGA events.
Interesting, considering Tiger and Rory just got "compensation" in the tune of $100/50 million respectively. I just want to watch the Ryder Cup style PGA v. LIV event. That would be a ratings goldmine.
Interesting take....so the guys who didn't take the money (outside of Tiger and Rory) will be stuck holding the bag 😅
I’m fine with the hybrid crossovers. However, I’d rather both seasons be offset. PGA spring summer. LIV fall winter in exotic locations.
They offered Scheffler two teams. This is why he is now playing lights out.
They need to totally revamp the OWGR because its a joke. If you are not playing PGA Tour events you get basically no points. The winner of the Sunshine Tour Tour Championship won himself a pathetic 3.16 OWGR points. This is the top players on the order of merit playing. How on earth are you supposed to get anywhere in terms of rankings if you only get 3 points? Versus PGA Tour events giving 60 points to the winner.
As for LIV and them getting points. People look at the field and say yes its only 50 odd guys but they forget its those same 50 guys playing every week. Every week whoever wins had to beat Rahm, Smith, DJ, Brooks, Bryson, Reed, Hatton etc. Cant say the same for the PGA Tour where the top 30 players rarely all play.
Winning the Master is totally crap, I know. How is Scheffler #1??? I can't figure that out.
Yet less than 2 hours ago it was reported that the sides "are not even writing the same book" and are "very far apart"..
What they ought to do is have the PGA Tour be the individual avenue to the Signature Tour series, while LIV would be the team-based avenue. Top 3 LIV teams including ties should be awarded Signature exemptions. LIV events should also have special invitational teams so that you don't have Wildcard Anthony Kim situations. If the Korn Ferry event winners get Signature exemptions, put the next top 4 Korn Ferry players on a team and give them a chance to qualify for the Signature exemption as well. Senior tour players, Regional PGA amateurs, or Local club champions can also have teams for better grassroots engagement. There are a lot of things that could be done with a little creativity.
Most of this sounds good in theory, but why would PGA players get a LIV contract at all, that makes no sense much less pay $100s of millions of dollars to Tiger and Rory. As far as compensating PGA players for 'loyalty' that's just stupid to pay for someone for staying in the PGA and then wanting to reap the benefits of LIV golf.
Also, the PGA has control of the voting board for world ranking points, the first thing they should do is approve LIV getting those and dont scream it's only 54 holes as Gira de Golf Professional de Mexicana is only 54 holes and was approved.
Yeah, I mean LIV players just got clocked by Scheffler....makes sense to give LIV players that #1 spot from the world rankings to DJ or Joakin. DJ did break 80, twice!
@@wreckim PGA players just got clocked by Scottie too, don't be a dumb ass.
If this goes through it will be great for golf fans. Not so sure if KF or Reg PGAT would survive.
Could be wishful thinking, but if it’s golf will explode in popularity. I also think we’ll see more big events being played outside the US. Wonder what this will mean for TV. Assume the big events would have their own separate contract …for huge money. Players win, fans win and sponsors win. All because Norman and Yassir and Phil had the vision.
This would explain the sudden 180° turn on Paul McGinleys opinion about LiV during the Masters. 😂😂
Shamblee and McGinley are a joke...
That and the very real possibility that PIF buys the golf channel that NBC wants so badly to unload
@pauljcross2289 Sadly most of the Golf channel PGA broadcast team are.. Brandel, Paul and Eamon are by far the worst. Then there's Rich Lerner who can't go two seconds without stirring the LiV vs PGA pot. No wonder people turn them off.
Let me see. Judging by the LIV contingent at the 2024 Masters here’s my observation:
LIV is just a 54 hole exhibition tour complete with shorts to ensure comfort ahead of competition for its Billionaires while competing against a small field of Millionaires.
Token purses and small desperate fields, of less than 60 golfers each tournament, are void of any competitive drama which will ensure these soft rich guys do not win any more Majors.
The LIV Tour is made up of guys easily corrupted by tainted 911 Saudi money who lack the character of golf's greats.
I say to these guys who have shown their character, to have a price bought and paid for, should just enjoy their retirement on the Pre-Senior’s Tour. These same players aren’t chasing golf immortality but easy street. In LIV, they found it.
I hold up the illustrious Dustin Gretzky, who is more easily kept track of, by Paulina for his previous relational indiscretions and wandering eye.
Hey guys! Isn't retirement great!
So young though.
Naw. Golf is better seperated. There is already 4 championships. They just need to get liv qualified for majors. The masters leaving out Louis, Dean and Gooch was criminal.
No it wasn’t lol. They could’ve gone and earned their way in like Niemann
@@Darth1182 Nieman didn't "earn" his spot. He received a special invite into the masters invitational.

Makes a lot of sense but still have a “have/have not scenario. The big guys can earn a lot more but mid and lower tier players on PGAT/Korn left out…..
Scheduling all of these would be crazy. Worldwide or more domestic events down the road ?
The Ryder cup idea sounds great. Can put to bed all the armchair quarterbacks say which tour has the best players
Title " The LIV Golf and PGA Tour Merger REVEALED " First Sentence " Rumor has it"
After watching the post game interview at the Masters, I'm going to call it that Scotty Sheffler is going to be the next big name to go to LIV.
Hmmm… maybe right. Liv always goes after major winners. Scotty should take the money. Once in a lifetime offer. Better than the lottery. LIV is more fun and growing its spectator base.
Nothing good has ever comes out of a major company/organization merge.
The best merge is to take the LIV format, shorts, etc and revamp the PGA tour outright.
I’m just wondering about scheduling all of this and now forcing LIV players back onto the PGA tour when most didn’t want to play more tournaments a year. As part of the agreement they would have to Bryson, Brooks, Phil, DJ and others would have to to agree to play these signature events and them to their schedule.
Some players went to LIV for the money but also for the time with their families or less tournaments. Not sure if more tournaments are possible.
does anyone who watches liv really care about the 'teams?' I am speculating but I highly doubt Crushers GC hats are flying off the shelf. I am really happy to hear this in the works. I was gutted when I saw Louis Oosthuizen get interviewed and tell how hurt he was he couldn't play Augusta this year. I think it would be nice for PGA players to get paid more honestly. It's 2024, we don't need these guys eating out of their cars like Hogan in the early 40's
Edit: maybe they could have LIV signature and get ride of the nobodies for these events and have more high level PGA players have teams. Like half liv half PGA like MLB interleague play.
LIV fans love the teams event....and PGAT fans just don't get it
Teams are the best part
Yes, I enjoy the teams. Especially how they are set up by region overall. Asian teams, european teams, australian, south americans, all-american teams and each have a different personality. The teams aren't completely set up that way but pretty close. It's great to see how they interact with one another and support one another in their unique cultural styles. Great to see how the fans from different parts of the world can pull for their favorite team that may be from their country or region. They are more laid back on the LIV tour so you really get to know them on a more personal level as well. When your favorite player is sucking that weekend you can still pull for the overall team and with all 4 scores counting on the final day it makes for some good drama as the leaderboard moves around. I'm a Bryson fan so naturally I'm a Crushers GC fan. I'm not a Reed fan so I can pull against him and the 4 Aces lol.
It's all BS .... personally I will not waste my time watching a LIV event !
Why must it be so difficult, easy solution:
1. PGA and DP play regular schedule to get include LIV Players.
2. Once a month have a tournament where the top 80 world rankings play a LIV event call it PGA Premier Event! With random draw for teams.
One tour and everybody is happy! It’s not that hard!
might as well move to LIV as a player to get a 1000% pay increase then play events on the pga to qualify for majors
There are 14 players that have outperformed Bryson on LIV and 6 of those players weren’t in the US open.
Tiger and Rory have lions share of PGAT equity . They could as sweetner to other players give up majority of that back into player pool for team ownership . There also possible tie in between TGL and LIV teams . 11 LIV teams have player equity add Tiger Rory maybe Hideki and 1 other you have the ideal 15 for format .
Do the LIV and PGA tour players really want to play more events. A LIV players could play their 14 tournaments + the 4 majors and the 6 PGA tour signature events for a total of 24 tournaments a year.
All that would be needed would be for the PGA to stop banning LIV players. Those players would happily do both just like Tiger used to. Very few schedule conflicts. Tiger always played in different world tours for huge guaranteed “appearance” fees and played a somewhat more limited PGA schedule. PGA was fine with that then.
Want in one hand…nothing will happen until DOJ says it can and I do not see them allowing the foreign monies being allowed into a US business. It should just be the PGA-DP Tour-LIV under the umbrella of PIF. LIV will need to change their format and only the best players (top 5) be allowed to play in signature events. Based on LIV players ranking from the signature events they could earn OWGR points for potential ranking to qualify for majors.
Couple of thoughts. 1. Wonder how everyone who Tiger convinced to pass is going to feel. 2. Surely a team is reserved for Scottie. 3. There has to be a buyout or relegation provision to get rid of some of the under-performing captains who joined early but don't add much to league today (e.g. Kaymer, the tri-captains on the Majesticks, Na, etc)
Great Masters week. 👏⛳️ Need these guys all back together!
But without Scheffler. The fake #1. Neiman is the real #1....DJ #2.

Fasten your seat belts this could get 🤪
LIV will be world tour pga mostly American tour and competition between them will be great for both tours and golf lovers 😉⛳️😇😊
I prefer my idea: pgat adopts a team format that they implement next year. Keep the signature events and individual events but some of the sleepy events would now be team events for just pgat teams. Let the PIF pay for that and guarantee money and equity building. Then you have a team worlds between the pgat and Liv top 4 of each. No owgr for team events so if liv guys want owgr they can play on the pgat event or dp events
or LIV events get OWGR pts like they should have from the start....corruption
Where will these tours actually play? What countries?
Feels like you're turning into a Liv schill a bit...
He got his check from the PIF
The players who are salty about not getting a team shouldn’t ownership of their own team
TBH, as long as the best players in the world can all play at the majors, ill be happy. The rest im sure they will figure it out.
If the LIV players threatened a boycott of the majors until a fair ranking system was created....it would happen quickly!
Only a few pga players will get megabucks because of their “status” which will be unfair to most
They should give the UA-camrs a chance to join one of those teams
Rorey shouldn’t get shit after all the shit he talked
If I was LIVE, I would abandon the brand and make it PGA official teams instead and keep paying the players that moved over to live. LIVE as a brand is a 5/10; it's better to fool the audience with a brand new merger name that keeps the existing Live teams but under a new banner."
LIV could go to 4 days and have a cut at 54 and still keep 54 relevant. Unfortunately, that would break the team format. They could do the first two days are group competition for the cut. That would be interesting. Not sure if it's viable, but they could allow the top 10 finishers where their team didn't make it to continue as individuals. The last two days could still be shotgun. If there is a deal to be done, it would explain why the commentators were a lot more inclusive this time at the Masters. But DAMN, how many times did they mention that Sheffler was the #1 player in the world. They even asked Bryson if he was excited to play the #1 player in the world. I mean, c'mon.
They just need to realize that they are entertainers. If they don't entertain people, then they don't get paid!
The PGA players that stayed still aren’t being compensated enough
The guys with the balls to make the move are the ones who should be compensated the most. The puppets get what they deserve.
Based on your thoughts, it would not be mathematically possible as there are on 52 weeks in a year.
I'm not saying this is the wrong thing to do, or that I don't like the ideas expressed.... but I'm not hearing that it's a win win for anyone involved outside of LIV at this point. HOWEVER, before anyone starts with the hate comments and or idiot comments... I'm simply saying I wanna see it in black and white and understand it better.
The LIV players will never play more than they do now
Great discussion..all very possible / plausible. I'm waiting to hear news that Tiger signs with LIV for over 1 Billion.
I would like for DP World Tour to be salvaged by LIV somehow.
I hate pretty much everything about Liv golf, except the golf itself: I hate the music, the 'loudness', the in-screen scoreboard, the teams setup that really doesn't do anything for me, the money, the 'sponsor', the 3 rounds instead of 4, the butt-ugly website, the commisioner.
Gotta get Nantz, Brandel, etc out of the game. The younger crowd doesn’t want to hear grandpa ramble on about the good old days of Ben Hogan and how Harvey Penick’s Little Red Book should be mandatory reading. They’d rather watch Bryson bomb one over a pond, follow Netflix golf documentaries, and see drunk guys yelling at the Waste Management tournament. It’s entertainment not a religion.
And what bout TGL ?!
It's already been put on the backburner b/c of the accident to the roof at the venue.
I'm sure part of Tigers' convo w/ Yasir was also about TGL. Specially if TGL grows beyond what they have structured, so far
main point with all of it is that the fans want a good field. merger has to happen 😮
