Good call-out on the open-handed stuff and takebacks and the like. I think the key point to keep in mind is that there's a difference between "testing" and "practicing". (And also between "practicing" and just "playing"). If you're wanting to test, you need to show up and test, not just show up and play games.
On the flipside, you probably shouldn't just test a bunch and assume that means you're well-practiced with the decks you tested. Once you've settled on a list, you should try to get some practice reps in with it in addition to your testing, to make sure that you can play the list to its full potential in a tournament setting.

I really like these improve/pseudo coaching videos you have made the last couple weeks/months lately🥰🥰
Miss ofc some gameplays with certain decks, but still enjoy the content no matter what it is😎💪

I've been telling players this for years! The only problem with your absolute truthfulness here is how hard it is to find another human to test like this with. Hopefully they'll open up after I show em this video

Caught this during your stream. And this was perhaps one of my favorite bits of advice from Azul. So thank you. You simplified and also graciously presented what it is to approach Pokémon from a competitive perspective quite nicely. Play with a test group. It’s such a boon to get better at the game!

Interesting concept but I’ve personally found testing with just yourself playing both sides to be better as your able to play both sides therefore learn the deck you want to play and another meta deck at the same time. However I can definitely see an argument for playing with someone else as well.

That's how I tested before. Normally having the other player running the top 8 decks vs my ideas. It has yielded positive results

My friend managed to build an online version of his actual IRL deck before a big tournament. He asked me to build exactly 3 decks known to be the toughest matchups in metagame of that time for him. I had a week to master them, fortunately two of them were regularly played by me. We then spent a whole evening playing. It was a valuable experience for both of us, with remarks from both sides. Not gonna lie, having chat in Online was a bit useful, now I have to commit another device for chat.

Can I test in that online version? Yugioh has something like that and it's pretty useful

@@emmanuelsolis7872 there is an AI testing mode where it chooses a random deck from previous season and you can play, but these decks are already outdated. The only viable option is to arrange a friendly match with another player.

@@emmanuelsolis7872 I mean, Live has decks which are contemporary unlike Online which had them from a previous decade.

Just brilliant! You must make huge advancements in play when you work as a true team this way. Love these style of vids.. more like this please where you are teaching optimization. ❤️✌️

The only thing about open-handed testing is that it's very difficult for the human brain not to be biased and results oriented.

I agree 100% I also like to collect data so you can look back on it and have discussions on how your team is as players. You can always find some interesting stuff when looking at data and numbers, just don't trust it 99% of the time 😅. I find the hardest thing is finding players that also understand this, I've been invited to a team before and all they wanted to do was play pokemon and not gather data and work as a team. This had made me not want to be on a team unless I start it and at this point, with running a league, I don't know if I will have the time anymore 😢

What’s the best way to go about getting a testing group, most of the players locally just want to have fun. I don’t know as many competitive players outside of my local circle.

How many games in average you often play in testing session ? Maybe also games per meta deck you whant to try. When do you feel often that RNG is pushed aside and you feel comfortible with a play or tech cards?

I have a question, when it's a new format (ie; rotation) and y'all don't know what deck to play. Do y'all do playtesting with different decks, or do y'all just pay games until y'all go "hey this deck is pretty busted" then start playtesting?

Dont be shy to have a help from a player who has meta cards. Thats how you improve and think out of the box
