      What room? The car is millimeters larger than the 991.2. FYI Porsche owners don’t like the fact that it keeps getting bigger as it’s not a true sports car at some point but a GT car. Steering is better but not 40k better! No the ride quality is no better as comfort always means a trading in performance. Nothing about these 2 cars is going to decrease your odds of getting a ticket. I’m on my third 911 and this is less of a change than the 991.2 was.
      What on earth is better about this interior? It’s got screens which force you to go from screen to screen to do the most basic things unlike a simple button.

    I love 911s and would normally argue for the base. But looking at the current offerings from Porsche, the 718 GTS 4.0 in Cayman or Boxster guise seems to be the absolute sweet spot. Similar powertrain to the GT4/Spyder, manual or PDK option, NA large displacement flat 6, and at a price that’s lower than the base 992 or the GT4/Spyder. If you don’t have to have the 911 and you’re not offended by the looks of the 718 twins, I think those cars could be the answer from Porsche.

    • @chris8535
      @chris8535 Рік тому

      Because in shorter, tighter canyon carving, or places where you can't go 100+ you BARELY get to use NA top range. It's basically pointless unless you have long straightaways and sweepers.

    • @brandonchism6960
      @brandonchism6960 Рік тому

      Edit: I think you’re saying the NA options are pointless unless you can go 100 mph+. I’d make the same argument for these underrated 992 cars across the range. The base 911 is still faster than 718 GTS 4.0. I’d rather be slower, have a higher redline, and a better (IMO) sound.
      I guess it depends on how you drive your car man. 2nd and 3rd gears allow sub 100mph stints in both older, NA 911s and current NA 718 options. If that doesn’t matter to you, then the 4 cylinder turbos are just as capable of the same speeds without running out the rev range in most cases. I wrote that 3 years ago. Now, I’d even take a 987.2 in base trim and ring it out along the Appalachian foothills in NC, TN, North GA, and northern AL.

    I've seen this video several times, and the more I see it, the more I'm into a 992 base... I like to drive fast but I'm not professional, so I'm not sure if I would be capable to get the most of an S. For the transmission issue, my solution is an e92 NA with manual and sunroof (I think carbon roof is kind of pointless) and that is wunderbar!

  • @glennhavinoviski8128
    @glennhavinoviski8128 4 роки тому +6

    Unfortunately, the "base" they gave you had the S wheels, the sport exhaust and sport chrono plus various comfort / convenience and power seat options. Almost $20,,000 in options right there. That said, they're not letting you get a manual, torque vectoring, or rear axle steering unless you spend $15k extra for the S model. So in order to pay extra, you have to pay even more extra. Gotta love Porsche. That said, I optioned a Cayman GTS 4.0 and you can get that to $110k easily. You can also order one with no options if you want a sub-$100k new Porsche with a 6-speed manual, PASM and a flat 6 (non-Turbo but 4.0). My thought is I'd get a base 718 GTS for under $90k. It is probably less "base" than the base 911 (besides having to pay extra for CarPlay capability which is absurd).

    You're best off getting a used loaded S model. A base model with lots of options will depreciate the most...a base car with no options definitely will leave you wanting more. If you care about depreciation, 3 years old car is the way to go (preferably with many options first owner took a big hit on)...or a GT3/4 new or used, but for the same reason (they are hard to get). Targa holds its value better since its rare.

      I don't agree. My 2017 c4s has 420 HP and its all usable. I don't rev it out all the time, but that extra power is there is needing to pass etc. Normal mid to 5K RPM throttle is 'brisk acceleration.' Having 300 HP in a heavier car (3.5k LB) is not enough. I think a nice balance of 'usable power' is about 400 HP on 3k LB car. Of course with AWD, traction is not a problem and you can handle more power, but you're adding weight. These newer gen 911s are approaching 4k LB and 300 HP is low. End of day, you don't feel HP... you feel torque and response.

    On the color yellow, in 1986 I purchased a Corvette, manual trans in yellow. The color choice was not an easy decision which says, or hints, at something. I made sure I was at the dealer when the car was delivered, watched it come off the truck in fact. Driven to the shop for PDI and coned off per the agreement with the salesman (I’m fussy) I looked it over. The lunch truck showed up and pulled into the shop proper, opening up for business and many gathered about. I over heard another salesman talking to the lunch truck proprietor, who was inquiring about the coned off Vette, “yes that was an ordered car, can you believe they ordered it in yellow?”. About says it all it does, personally I never tired of the color but always wondered if I’d made the wrong decision, it certainly polarized people. A boat salesman once said buy the color for the next guy, some truth in that statement. Sold it years latter to a male hair dresser who wanted a yellow Vette to the exclusion of all other colors offered in ‘86, go figure. Thanks for the review and the many entertaining and informative videos, the 911 has been a dream car since I was 16, never happened but if ones breathing there still a chance correct? I drove a C2S 991.2 for a year then a CS2 992 for a year also. I found the width of the 992 body was something that made me feel less confident in narrow lane HWYS and it’s absolutely will oversteer if you’re not a precise throttle used otherwise you have to heel-tow with the breaks engaged as you took a curve to avoid the extra oversteer with the rear torque production. Second: 992 is overkill if you drive and have no idea that you want to be pulled over. 9/10 times the 992 C2S will spin sometimes to the cars loss of traction completely with with traction carol off and requires either skill or caution not to over accelerate. For a RWD car the i92 CS2 is a lot of unusable pwoewer when not one track. Only vanity will make me choose an S model if I wanted and att that why not go with a an s63. With the projected resale values that you discussed between the 911 and 718, I’m going to guess that buying a 2-year old base 992 would be optimal: some depreciation is baked in already and you still get a 911

  • @tommy516
    @tommy516 4 роки тому +5

    You’re right, the difference in the speed of the PDK between normal and sport plus in a Carrera S alone is a huge difference, so there must be a big difference between how this car shifts versus an S. If you cannot afford an S, get a 718, the lack of all the performance options on the base, removes a lot of the specialness of the 911. However, I think the 718 will always have a lower resale compared to a 911.

      These kind of “comparo’s” really bring out the…..ah…..well, folks that know all about the cars…..but just don’t OWN ONE.
      Anyway…..if drag racing is so critical….a PDK 911 will out perform a manual s in your 1/4 mile contest……but that’s not really why most people buy this car.
      And if your ego forces you to have an “s” following “Carrera”, that is sad.
      Folks that option a 911 realize very early in the game that the additional price on an “s” model is negated by the first real option you include on a base 911.
      And if not “rowing” just kills it for you, you’re probably too young to remember what it was like to hit second gear in your 366 hp GTO and toss your girlfriend from the center console into the backseat.
      WE DON’T NEED TO SHIFT…..DON’T WANT TO SHIFT ANYMORE……GET IT !! ???
      The current 2023 385 hp 911 has all the performance any sane driver can use on a public highway.
      Almost without exception, most new performance cars are far more capable than the driver. Most are in over their head before they turn the key on 400+ hp…..but they’re all “experts” and know which Porsche YOU need.
      And I’m willing to bet whom ever said “If you can’t afford an S, get a 718”…….has neither.
      Porsches are far more than horsepower……..people that buy them have figured that out.

      Congrats on the coming “T”……I’ve seen several reviews on them and they appear interesting.
      And you hit it when you mentioned price…..DAMN !!
      It took me almost 3 years to finally put a 2023 C2 in my driveway. Base price climbed well over 10K.
      Initially, I had wanted a C4…….at about the 28th month mark, the manager of the dealership put his arm around my shoulder and said “You’re never going to see a base all wheel drive…..soooo…..I’ll get you a 4s or a C2.
      I decided to get the C2 and option it. It worked out well……got a gorgeous Agate Grey 911 that just fits this old man just right !…..and that’s all that matters !
      Only have just over 500 miles on it and am breaking it in by “the book.”
      I’m not sure what your position is on breaking….and it doesn’t matter, but I just can’t wrap my head around the “drive it like you stole it” philosophy.
      The 385 hp in my C2 feel like Clydesdale’s….the bit I have experienced.
      I’m fortunate to have gone through the muscle car era…..66 442…..66 327 Corvette….69 GTO……69 Z-28…..69 427 Corvette.
      Yep…..had them all……and that little C2 would walk away from all of them !

However... personally.. a 718 4.0 GTS manual.. is MUCH cheaper and will hold it's value better.. even the Boxster version... and with a much better sounding exhaust note.. just as practical.. more exciting.. Did I miss anything?? However I agree.. why oh why.. don't they offer the base 992 with a manual transmission.. I know it's obvious.. but.. c'mon!! The base 991.2 with a manual was a peach!! reduced turbo lag made it more responsive than the S and more in keeping with the original.. to a degree..

    The best looking 911 since the 993 imo. The base is more than enough for daily driving. With these cars being turbocharged now there isn’t a huge need to get the S anymore. A simple tune will get you the power the S has. I understand why getting the S is more valuable in the 911.1 since you’re going from a 3.4 to a 3.8 but that’s not the case anymore

    It's interesting reading some of the comments here. Some would have you believe that owning this car (or any Porche) is some sort of life-altering experience. Nonsense. I've driven both the 911 and Cayman extensively. They are nice cars, but I've never bought one. Why? It is impossible to exercise what these cars are capable of on public roads. I don't track my cars, so there is no interest in that. The last time I drove the 911, I just felt frustrated. There is no way that I could daily a 911 as I can't use the performance and I don't think that it makes for much of a GT car in any trim. Why spend the money on capabilities that I could never use. I couldn't justify the purchase, and, yes I could afford it otherwise I would not have bothered with test drives.
