Nothing to do with Something. This is Paul's tribute to his lifetime soulmate the lovely and never forgotten Linda McCartney.
People are very hard on this song, saying it's Paul's attempt at writing "Something", but hearing these parts isolated is wonderful and really illuminates the strength of the melody
Nicely said. And it also dispelled that myth. I don't see any real connection between those two masterpieces.
My Love has absolutely nothing to do with Something. If so, what are the similiarities? The melody and harmony from each one are radically different. The only thing in common is that they both are (great) ballads.

The sentiment was first put forth in Ian McDonald's "Revolution in the Head", and suggests that Paul wrote this song in the late 60s and held onto it for release as a big single years later. In '69 Paul also wrote Maybe I'm Amazed; it was a great year for Beatle and Ex-Beatle ballads!
