You should consider the xp28 for 2.5 degree wider fov and just a little less magnification... and higher resolution and maybe a thousand dollars less. I reached the same conclusion as you and that's why I chose the xp28 with 21 degrees fov rather than the 9 degrees on the xp50. There are several videos here where they scan with xp28 and use xq38 trail rifle scope to do the shooting with.
I think I will try laser sight and mounting this hand held scope with picatinny to tripod adapter on my gun. Seems the only difference is the crosshairs on the trail models. The laser should work for aiming. I don't think I'll ever be making shots over 200 yards. I haven't seen any shots over about 150 yards on UA-cam hunting/hog killing videos.
I wish I knew what kind of batteries are in the power pack. I keep seeing 18650 in the specs but I see the power pack listed as 12v. 18650 are 3.7v. Someone will eventually crack open the power pack and probably find a way to swap out fresh batteries for $3 each rather than buying extra $100 power packs.

Would you recommend this for my shooting I shoot rats in sheds with air rifle . Foxes and deer stalking at all ranges or should I go lower mag wider field of view?

Surely you are comparing a digital device and a thermal device????

We believe that Thermal optics will replace the NV optics in the future.
