Basically, you can't "save". It's just "save and quit" for if you want a break. There's only perma-death, since it's a roguelike and all? =P So, don't just randomly "quit" the game, because there's (probably) no save data if you do that and you'll have to restart the run. (I think. Never tried it). Also, this game definitely has a good story. Seriously, it is surprisingly impactful for a roguelike. For the statistics: While you're still getting comfortable with the game, you can "roughly" ignore things like accuracy, or small percentages of defense or such, as long as it's "similar to 100" or "similar to 0". But there's definitely enemies with big evade or such (25%+), so just be aware of that as well.
I actually came to a very similar thought process that you just gave. Thinking of cards in more general terms like "this one is a free cheap attack, or this one does aoe that applies a debuff" is typically how I end up shortcutting cards anyway. I think it was just a lot thrown at me at once I was overwhelmed 😅
