Finally a video for dummies. You explain so a new-beginner understands. And thats what many youtubers forget. These videos are meant for dummies like me. Experienced knows already how to set up their cameras. finally got my settings done
I learned more watching this video in the first minute than any other video. Thank you for posting this. Very worthwhile watching especially after all of the money I've spent on hardware/software over the years.
Your tutorials are really interesting and easy to follow. My Premier Pro skills have improved leaps and bounds after your series on the Adobe Suite. Please know that we appreciated the time and effort you put into these videos!
I've had this camera for years but primarily for stills. You just answered every question I was looking for plus several I didn't even know I needed to look for yet. A huge thank you!
Hey, I've had my cameras for a number of years and I still just learned a ton watching your video. Great stuff. Super simple to follow. And really helpful. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
I cannot believe how hard it was to find any kind of directions or tutorial on how to shoot video on this camera! This is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you thank you thank you!
I have watched this video twice now, and I'm going to put what I learned to use tomorrow videotaping a large display of moving, model trains. Thank you very much for sharing this detailed information with everyone!
I know this vid is from years back but Oh my God you just saved my ass today! I just started a multimedia communications course and we are focusing on creating videos right now. I just got my Canon EOS 5D Mark iii but had no idea how to use it for video and since I bought it second hand, the settings were all jacked up- at least, not set for what I need for producing quality video. Thank you soooo much for doing this tutorial, new sub, will check out your other vids as I am sure there is a ton of info I could use beyond the basics of setting my camera up for video. Cheers! Cat-
Oh my, I feel like I learned so much! I just bought this camera. So excited to learn and start shooting better videos. Thank you for an awesome tutorial😊
This was awesome! Thank you so much for helping me to finally understand these terms that I hear so much as I venture into learning photography. Your explanation and teaching style are great.
Thanks for the video. I am a photographer and have been asked to shoot a bit of video for a client, this has been a really useful video for me. Many thanks.
Thank you Sir , you are Just "AWESOME" I had no idea about Canon 5D Mark III, I bought this camera a while before , anytime I touched this camera I got more Confuse than before, But thanks to you , Your Tutorial is very descriptive, Extensive, and really Simple to understand. Now I will be using my camera without any frustration. Thank you so much
Thank you for such a helpful video, I'm just now randomly finding your channel but if you don't already, you should teach classes! Soo informative and precise.
Loved this clear and straightforward instruction video on approaching shooting video on full size sensor camera Canon 5D Like to hear as well your views on choice of what to look for in tilt pan heads for documentary making and some recommendations on uploading data from the camera compact flash files onto laptop or portable hard drive as you shoot.
Simple and well explained, i started to follow your channel for Adobe premiere pro tutorials series and now with this dslr video shooting tips you really make this easy for beginner. Thanks a lot sir.
I shoot most video using my old Minolta /Rokkor lenses. All Manual focus and the look and feel is much more organic. I use an adapter from Fotodiox to adapt my lens to my 5D mark 3. I use a simple rubber focus ring on the lens for focusing. LOL Love the Romper Room Reference.
Thanks a million for making this tutorial, to explain the basics of videography. I'm just starting my journey into dslr video, and this was a massive help...
Some questions please; 1. Are you formatting to wipe out all previous settings? Will it wipe out my still image settings? 2. How do these movies settings effect the still image settings? I don't want to have to keep changing my settings every time I use the camera.
Great video thanks! One questio ? When shooting video and going from inside of let's say a house where there is low light to outside where it's super bright how do you manage to adjust exposure without messing up your video and be able to follow your subject from inside to outside? Thanks!
Thanks for another great video. I point everyone I come across who has an interest in videography to your excellent premiere pro videos. hopefully it helps grow your subscribers numbers. I do have a question. I've been working on scuba footage which is challenging from a lighting and color editing perspective. If possible, I'm wondering if you would be willing to put together a video on editing scuba footage that shows tips and tricks when working with clips that require heavy color/noise reduction and sharpening editing. I can send you clips if you don't have any (most are small clips, 15 sec to a minute max). I (and many others) would love to see a pros workflow for this type of footage. thanks again for everything
This is the easiest setting to follow i did it at the same time i was watching but i got a question... is this applies to photos as well or its just video?
It does to an extent. Yes. Still photography differs to a degree. For one example, ISO can be boosted higher. You can sometimes get away with shooting at 6400 ISO and not detect the grain. The grain is noticed when you are playing back in motion photography.
nice . i was going to shoot with this camera at next weak for a Channel . i shut with nikons and blackmagics and i have never shut with canons . this think helped me a lot Thanks a million . but u didnt mention that how to change PAL to NTSC (25 and 50 FPS for PAL and 24 ,30 and 60 fps are for NTSC so how to change it ? u camera is in NTSC )
Rokinon cinema lenses are amazing bang for buck, manual focus only. great look though. Sigma Art lenses are great for docs, 18-35mm 1.8 and the sigma 24-70 2.8, creamy images. tameron has comparable lenses. those two lenses cover most of what you would need for a doc film set up. and check out litra pro for hand held chimeras bi color, bright.
Hello there and thanks for the in depth tutorial on the Canon 5D Mk iii for video. I have got a question for you and I am hoping that you will be able to answer. When I focus on an object and then I decide to pan left, or right, even up and down (without zooming in-out) would the camera maintain the focus? I have tried this but has not worked for me!!! In the kitchen I focused on some plates that where by the sink, and went to the dinning room, I then came back to the kitchen, it was not in focus. I did not touch it, nor zoomed in-out. Any idea, how to achieve this please? Thank you very much...
Do you have an AF/MF switch on the actual lens? That is the auto focus/manual focus switch. If so, turn it to MF. Other than that, not sure what the issue may be.
rokinon cine lenses with Nikon mount even cp2 lenses you can get with nikon mount but these are very expencive. Rokinon ones are budget and great lenses for cinema. but shure you are geting cine ones as you seen in this tutorial

I looked all over youtube when I first got my 5d mark3 for something like this! simple but all the stuff you need to start! thanks!
You are literally a godsend. Thank you. My settings were ALL wrong. I had this $1.5k camera and wasn't even taking advantage of the settings properly.
I cannot believe how hard it was to find any kind of directions or tutorial on how to shoot video on this camera! This is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you thank you thank you!
I watched about 15-20 videos and if I had found yours first I wouldn't on need the others, Great Job

Amazing, thank you
When shooting video camera vertical or landscape?
Informative video, thank you!
you can record "ALL-I" on a SD card aswell as a CF card, not just the CF.
It depends on the speed of the SD card. At the time I did this video, those SD cards were very expensive. They've gone down since.
good to me coz I wan be doing photos & shooting cameras are great, behind the lenses.
Thanks... Sir
Thank you
Thank you for information thanks.
Perfect, thank you!

hi may i ask what post process program is the best?
What about Magic Lantern? It's extremely helpful for getting a great image.
Absolutely. Magic Lantern is great. This is just a basic video for those decide not to dabble in extra firmware.
Do you think you'll make a video that gets into using Magic Lantern and other tools to get the best possible image from DSLR's?
Eventually, yes. I've got a list of tutorials to do and that is on the list.
Sounds great, I look forward to it.
which firmware do u have cos mines only shows max 25 Frame rate per second and the firmware is 1.3.4... so how do i get the same type of your 60FSP?
Hello there and thanks for the in depth tutorial on the Canon 5D Mk iii for video. I have got a question for you and I am hoping that you will be able to answer. When I focus on an object and then I decide to pan left, or right, even up and down (without zooming in-out) would the camera maintain the focus? I have tried this but has not worked for me!!! Do you have an AF/MF switch on the actual lens? That is the auto focus/manual focus switch. If so, turn it to MF. Other than that, not sure what the issue may be.
Hi there and thanks for the response. I leave it on an MF, which is Manual focus, however I am still having the same issue!!!
Hmmmm... not sure on that one. Is it doing it with one lens or all lenses?@@TheRedpool
With all lenses! I have tried the 17-40 L. Series, 100 mm Macro, 50 mm Prime. @@chinfat
whats your camera setting in this video?
I'm shooting on my Nikon D800 and I have trouble finding good cinema lenses... any recommendations?
rokinon cine lenses with Nikon mount
even cp2 lenses you can get with nikon mount but these are very expencive.
Rokinon ones are budget and great lenses for cinema.
but shure you are geting cine ones as you seen in this tutorial
if you have brought a 5d iii do you really need the very basic commentary and CF card and taking a photo?
This is for beginning film students who haven't used that camera. Not for you. So yes... yes, I do.
nice
thank you for this ,,,
Lot of thanks
