Hey i want ask something. I have a canon 100D if i record a video 1080p with SD Card Sandisk Ultra 48MB/s (SD HC 10) after 5 second my video stopped automaticly i dont know why this things happend, but when i used the V-Gen (SD HC 4) it keep recording and it was weird because my V-Gen is much slower, it was 10-20MB/s can you explain this? I have no idea cause v-Gen is more cheaper than my Sandisk and my sandisk cant even hold 1080p?!!!
Thanks Sean I love the way your videos always look and I am getting better every day with mine based upon the great advise you are always providing. :)
Dude, thank you. For years the setting of shutter speed, aperture and ISO was a mystery to me. But you video makes it so clear, and you give an order for how to deal with them: framerate, shutter speed, aperture ISO. I get it. A huge light just came on. And the variation use the faster lens really helps. Great teaching. Thanks!
Wow this video was SO HELPFUL! I think I'm finally understanding depth of field. I think what I struggle with is shooting indoors when there is not much light or if there is a window behind someone.
I got the SL2 because of your recommendation and it is a great camera. However, is there any way to get around the limit on recording size of 29:59. I do classes and live events that last upwards of 2 hours and I can't be stopping and restarting. Also I sooooooo wish they had put the door to the battery and SD card somewhere that wasn't blocked by the tripod. I have to take it off and remove the attachment. Plus no adaptor for plugging it into the wall. Not showstoppers but very inconvenient!
Sean, you have taught me everything I know about making videos - and I still have a lot to learn!! Thank you so much for your awesome content. I'll be watching this video every morning for the next week!!
This was so helpful! I'm a blogger and UA-camr who is finally trying to get out of shooting on Auto. You made it so simple that I feel more confident for my next video. Thank you!!!
I recently bought a Canon 80D for my interior remodeling channel and I've watched a lot of videos on manual settings and trying to understand how each function works. This is by far the most practical and informative video I've watched about IOS and Aperture. I have never used a camera so this lingo is completely foreign to me. So when you applied each setting to a real-life situation (step by step) everything clicked in my head. And I finally understand these settings. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I look forward to using your style of videography in my videos. It's very much the style I'm looking for opposing to other photographers setups i've seen. I've also noticed the halo light adds a nice glowing ring inside your eyes. Very effective for sexy appeal jk lol Thanks, man!
I've been researching, practicing, and (mainly) struggling with my DSLR for about a year--thanks to your video, I finally understand it!!! THANK YOU!! (definitely subscribed, I look forward to binging your content). Happy New Year!!
Thanks Sean, just picked up a new 80D and was pulling my hair out trying to get the great settings to shoot my DIY channel. Thanks so much and keep putting them out. Tremendous help!!!!!
This video is FANTASTIC!!! I am totally one of those people who are all “why don’t my videos look like that?” This step by step guide is going to help so much. Thanks!
Thank you for making these videos. A lot of other videos only show you bits and pieces while you're actually getting behind the camera and showing us each setting, each step. Thanks man.
this is one of THE most helpful dslr settings video I've ever seen, and I've now made a playlist specifically for this purpose :D thanks so much Sean, your a star!
This was so helpful!! I’m just getting started so I’m super excited! Shot my first video last night with my lighting and my new Canon Rebel T6i! Looked amazing but I can’t wait to shoot with these settings! Thanks so much for your great videos!
Careful with that aperture though! You don't want it to get so shallow that a slight shift in your position in front of the camera causes you to get out of focus. With a nifty 50 lens, I wouldn't go up to F1/8. I'd go about F/4. FroKnowsPhoto has a great video DSLR guide. I highly recommend it. Helped me out a lot!
This is one of the best videos I have watched for setting up a camera to shoot! Easy to understand and follow and actually showing how it looks on the camera AND subject at the same time was super helpful!
I truly dont comment often but this video has been the most helpful tool for me. I literally have everything and this helped out so much on how to get the best quality available. Thank you sean, straight to the point
Learnt lately that auto white balance works best in most cases. I have the dirty habit of holding a white paper before every shot to tune in 'push' white balance.
Hey there...I'm 100% not bashing you just letting you know that after doing some extensive research I found out that the grey side is actually for setting exposure and it has become a common myth over the years that it it also perfect for white balance, however the white side of you're card is actually what should be used to set white balance. The colours will be be more accurate that way, I tested it myself...you get more of a yellowish hue in your pics/vids when you use the grey side. Feel free to check it out and have a great day :)
TECH DRONE MEDIA in the video after he does white balance it changes the balance of light on his skin. Idk if he was shooting for that but it is allot better looking afterwords.
omg thank you soo much! 💕 I was sad because I made a cute background for videos with little Christmas lights behind me, but on my new camera it did the strobe light effect thing. I'm new to using a DSLR so I had no idea how to fix it, but after watching this video I figured out that it had to be on different settings! lol I feel kinda dumb, but thank you so much! this really helped💕
I've seen plenty of videos just like this before and I actually enjoyed this one the most even if i already seen the other ones. Still some very good information that the other creators does not explain this good. Keep up the good work!
Just got a 80D for my setup, loving the help here Sean! One thing that I've been experiencing is the pain it is to switch between video and camera mode. Any tips on that?
Yeah I watch it then get pumped then can't find a button or setting. Sit down and watch it again with what I've learned then get pumped. Then realize I still don't have something set right. Rinse and repeat. Lol
OMG Thank you for this vid! Recently purchased a entry level Canon DSLR and was having issues with settings. Very helpful for the beginner youtuber/non photography savvy person.
Great video, just got my Canon 70D today and with the help from your video I feel much more confident in providing my viewers with professional quality videos!
I FINALLY solved my problem! thank you ! I was about ready to quit! I still can't seem to work out whats the best settings to export on premier pro if anybody can help with that?
Great explanation! DSLR cameras can be complicated to someone that isn't familiar with photography/video, when they first buy one. I am a realtor and bought a Nikon D5100 thinking it would automatically make my photos look better, paid about $800 maybe 5 years ago and hated it because I had no idea how to use it. Understanding the settings is super important and makes all the difference. I'm going to start doing videos/vlogs in my office at night and this will help so much! Thanks!!!
This was an awesome video! I was motivated by your videos to take my old Canon Rebel XT (yeah its old) out of retirement but also to go with a dslr for my videos instead of a camcorder. I was looking at a Sony 4K Camcorder but went with the T7i since I know how reliable Canons are and your videos still look great at 1080p. Soon ill be looking at lighting and lenses.....
Ok So i've been working on teaching myself how to do interviews for a new channel and for a corporate gig after a couple years of making youtube vids...I never really took the time to nail down the basics and got frustrated after a few experimental practice interviews with how they got pretty grainy despite all the lighting I had....you helped me realize why it wasn't working through the setup explaination you gave in this video...thank you so much for putting this video out there! I am so greatful!
Hey, this video really helped me! My videos looked like crap even though I was using a fancy camera. This straightened it out quick. Thanks for really getting down to the nuts and bolts in a way I couldn't find other videos or blogs to do! THANK YOU! :)
Focus would be my biggest concern, specially when shooting slow motions and smooth b rolls, the camera keeps tying to focus and out of focus .... is there a smooth way to do that focus transition and what should be the settings for that
I just bought a variable ND filter for this precise reason. That way I can keep my shutter speed at double the FPS, keep the aperture wide open and the ISO the lowest all while letting the filter cut some light to get the perfect exposure. Ive also found the variable ND filter indispensable for shooting video outdoors and being able to keep my shutter speed at double the FPS while still getting a perfect exposure. Otherwise this is a very well explained video.
When it comes to shutter speed I think there might be a confusion for some people because if doesn't usually display 60 but 1/60, 50 as 1/50 and so on.
Hey Sean, Thank you for creating this video. It confirmed that I’m doing some things right but my challenge is in locking down my shot after everything is set up. I spend hours getting everything set up ( including having my 82 yr old mom sit in as my double) and when I turn off the camera, everything goes back to fuzz! I know that people who crank out videos regularly don’t spend hours setting up their shot every time. It’s such a terrible use of time and so frustrating! I use a Canon T6i, 50 mm lens, and have lots of good lighting. I’d appreciate any feedback you might have for me and again, AWESOME video!👍🏼❤️👍🏼❤️😀😀😀
If you made the camera see same as what you are seeing that means you have cracked it! Thank you for this video. After so many years i have finaly learnt it
I don't know how many times I can say "thank you" for your THiNK Media videos, but - once again - THANK YOU for another great and informative video. Very much appreciated!
AWESOME VIDEO! I am starting a tech channel and this will really help me. I have got to say you are one of my favorite youtubers its close between you and Peter Mckinnon.

I've been trying to record videos for about a year or so now and have had so much trouble understanding all of this. This video makes perfect sense to me though. Thank you thank you for this easy and clear tutorial for beginners!!
oh my goodness, I'm so happy i found this video. i've had a 50mm lens sitting in my drawer for years and i thought it's hard to use for the tutorials that i make but it's exactly what i needed. thank you thank you thank you! i'll use it in my next filming session. :D
5th like bro!! I have a doubt I want to create UA-cam channel/channels I will put project, gameplay and funny videos Should I create separate channels or put them all in a same channel? Can you please reply bro please?
If you're not against used gear, Amazon has the used and refurbished second. Local pawn shops also have great deals on DSLRs and the quality has always been good at my local place.
I sold my motorcycle to get a dslr and a few other things for recording music. Learning as much as possible to shoot good videos. My previous have been with an iPhone. I want to have great quality for my music.
Sooooo helpful thank you! Had just got my new SL2 out of the box and shot a test video and shocked at the quality! Watching your video has got the setting right ... hurray!
Great way to explain it to someone who is new to all this. so helpful. my videos wreck wayyyy over exposed and understanding how to set the white balance will make a huge difference. My skin looked all wrong. Thank you.

SET YOUR CAMERA TO VIDEO AND THE DIAL TO MANUAL. ELSE YOU WONT HAVE ALL THE OPTIONS SHOW UP ON YOUR CAMERA.
Thanks Sean I love the way your videos always look and I am getting better every day with mine based upon the great advise you are always providing. :)
Providing the viewer more value is my biggest obstacle... I want to be able to offer more then "hey I'm just running arround, look at me" lol...
@@muhammadsulthanapyandra2809 I am having the exact same problem my video last about five seconds

Good job Sean, this will help a lot of new creators. Keep up the hustle.
Chris
Thanks Chris! Love your channel and content. Would love to connect more someday. Keep crushing it!
Chris Winter I don't know who you are but you have a new subscriber
THiNK Media TV my biggest challenge on making video is exposure, gaining subscribers and finding the right DSLR
You two guys, my fav channel of Camera and gear review.. Maybe someday, you two must be Collabs .. #hehe :)
because of him, i bought a new camera that what i want.. #recommendedChannel :)

Thanks Sean, just picked up a new 80D and was pulling my hair out trying to get the great settings to shoot my DIY channel. Thanks so much and keep putting them out. Tremendous help!!!!!

Just looking at the comments you’ve helped so many people who are now verified. GOOD JOB MAN!
I would love to see a video about how to make the most of your DSLR if all you have is the kit lens.
This is one of the best videos I have watched for setting up a camera to shoot! Easy to understand and follow and actually showing how it looks on the camera AND subject at the same time was super helpful!
This was really great. The best I've seen so far. However, I was trying to see if he was in manual mode and if he had the autofocus activated or not.👍

I don't ever mess with white balance. So great tip on that. Thanks for the video!
Neither do I!
Learnt lately that auto white balance works best in most cases. I have the dirty habit of holding a white paper before every shot to tune in 'push' white balance.
This is an example of the perfect UA-cam tutorial. Concise, informative and of course well shot! Thanks, I learned a lot that I can use right away!

That's 100% not true.
That is 100% true. Always use a *white* balance card, but make sure it's not overexposed.
The best explanation I have heard till now. Short and very easy to understand. Thanks Sean!
Sean, I think your face is overexposed when using the ring light. Apart from that really good video, with the basic principles.
TECH DRONE MEDIA my thoughts exactly
TECH DRONE MEDIA in the video after he does white balance it changes the balance of light on his skin. Idk if he was shooting for that but it is allot better looking afterwords.
I believe so, too. His face is a little bit overexposed or I could be wrong. Lol
I was thinking that as soon as I saw the video. I didn’t even want camera settings from him because this shot looks terrible.
I'ma break it to you guys... this man doesn't really know what he's doing...

but dude, it's too bright when your face is in front of the light ring. I dunno why'd you call that perfect skin tone, am I missing something here.
This is one of the most important channels on UA-cam

When my exposure is to high, I use my variable ND filter so I can my shutter speed at 60 and f/stop as low as possible.
Hey, this video really helped me! My videos looked like crap even though I was using a fancy camera. This straightened it out quick. Thanks for really getting down to the nuts and bolts in a way I couldn't find other videos or blogs to do! THANK YOU! :)

Sean, you're a master man. I've learned so much from your channel!
Focus would be my biggest concern, specially when shooting slow motions and smooth b rolls, the camera keeps tying to focus and out of focus .... is there a smooth way to do that focus transition and what should be the settings for that
Success! Just searched through several videos looking for your SD card recommendation.
I just bought a variable ND filter for this precise reason. I 2nd the ND filter. It's a better option than changing the speed, no good camera kit should be without one.
This completely saved me from buying another camera for video. I love my nikon for photos, but I was really struggling for video! Thanks Sean!
When it comes to shutter speed I think there might be a confusion for some people because if doesn't usually display 60 but 1/60, 50 as 1/50 and so on.

Just bought $800 worth of video crap through your link. Enjoy!
You did an amazing job at simplifying everything! Awesome teacher!
What's my biggest challenge? Just talking to the darn camera!!
If you made the camera see same as what you are seeing that means you have cracked it!
Thank you for this video. After so many years i have finaly learnt it
Kinda of weird that I just got my DSLR yesterday and was wondering the exact same thing :P
Tech Volt I bought might mine over 4 month but don't use it because I'm clueless where to start
itsme okay same here. any progress?
Thank you Sean! This is the best simple video for configure your video settings for a video shot. Great Job!
when i vlog should i keep it in manual or automatic, i find it easier in automatic, and im wondering if i will lose quality in automatic?
I don't know how many times I can say "thank you" for your THiNK Media videos, but - once again - THANK YOU for another great and informative video. Very much appreciated!
Thanks for your great tutorials. Goodluck Dude :)
From Mongolia :P
thx
THiNK Media TV new fan, dude
AWESOME VIDEO! I am starting a tech channel and this will really help me. I have got to say you are one of my favorite youtubers its close between you and Peter Mckinnon.
💯
Thanks so much Sean for this. I literally did this today, I purchased the grey card a few weeks ago and now my video I'm making actually looks like something. I made a few videos that looked awful and that deterred me from creating because they didn't look like other channels. I really appreciate what your doing to help newbies.
Biggest challenge for me is the color grading and dialing in the picture profile.
I've been trying to record videos for about a year or so now and have had so much trouble understanding all of this. This video makes perfect sense to me though. Thank you thank you for this easy and clear tutorial for beginners!!
A year?!
When you said Baked Potato I got hungry.
:-)
great job, I'm a novice but intend to learn faster from your tutorials. great job man.
like before watching
always
You have no idea what you just did for me! THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you soo much. I had my ISO way too high "1600" 😂💀
Great video that's straight to the point - without the fluff. Just unboxed my Canon 90D - and clueless - this video saved my bacon today!! Thank you.
Our biggest challenge is not having enough time to make all the video Ideas we have.
I wonder if you started 5 years ago and would have made all your video ideas by now
Learned the basics just by watching this! Thank you, very much for this perfect tutorial.
"The shot would look like a baked potato" lol
oh my goodness, I'm so happy i found this video. i've had a 50mm lens sitting in my drawer for years and i thought it's hard to use for the tutorials that i make but it's exactly what i needed. thank you thank you thank you! i'll use it in my next filming session. :D
5th like bro!!
I have a doubt
I want to create UA-cam channel/channels
I will put project, gameplay and funny videos
Should I create separate channels or put them all in a same channel?
Can you please reply bro please?
***** So... Which is a better idea? Create single channel and putting altogether ? Or creating separate channels?
Thank you so much Sean. I am a new Canon 80D owner and your video helped me a lot.
Biggest Challenge: Making the time to edit. Plenty of footage in the can, just taking too long to edit it all.
Bret Atwood omg me too!!!
I keep coming back to this video. 70 D may be a little older but it is solid.
biggest problem getting money for a dslr
If you're not against used gear, Amazon has the used and refurbished second. Local pawn shops also have great deals on DSLRs and the quality has always been good at my local place.
In my country people are that greedy that they would sell their dslr maybe $50 less fml.
In that case get a T2i or T3i. Very cheap and good quality
Watching your video has got the setting right ... hurray!
your face is a little over exposed in that close up shot
This was the most helpful video on how to set the 70d. Thank you Sean. X
no homo but he got nice eyes
if you have to justify yourself before making a compliment then, my friend, you're not so sure about it.... bye. hihihihi

Great way to explain it to someone who is new to all this. so helpful. my videos wreck wayyyy over exposed and understanding how to set the white balance will make a huge difference. My skin looked all wrong. Thank you.
Just launched my UA-cam channel 2 weeks ago and wow this video was super helpful. Thank you man, I really appreciate it!
3 years later and this is still a gem! Thank you again my man.
Great video! I'm new to a dslr for filming and the 2x shutter vs. fps alone will help me out a ton! Thank you.
Thanks Sean, for the quick tutorial. 70D is an amazing toy to have. Just got mine.
