I have the gm 70-200 mark 2 and you are right it’s the best 70-200 ever made, and I kept herring about the tamron 35-150 f2-2:8 so I bought it about 6 months ago,and I only put it on my a1 just to see what it was like, I wish I hade never bought it, like you said just take a 35 mm prime lens with the 70-200 and you will have much better coverage, also you will have extra 50 mm on the long end. And the advantage on the prime on the low end,so if an body out there thinks this 35-150 is going to change there life it’s not if you already own the 70-200. Don’t get caught in all the hype.
I’ve had the tampon 35-150 F2-2.8 for over a year now and it’s stays on my camera body, I’m a prime lens guy but the sharpness from this lens throughout all the focal lengths is insane.
I Couldn't agree more. Its just one of those lenses that is becoming a must have because those times when you just need 1 lens for everything, that 35-150 is it
I kind of look at it a little differently. If it were me I would go sigma 28-105 in the 70-200. Smaller amount of overlap then what you would get with the Tamron 35-150. In addition, The biggest weakness of the Tamron is the variable aperture. While you can set it to stay at f 2.8 throughout the zoom range, they could have just made it a f2 throughout the zoom range.
True but setting it at F2 for a 35-150 would make that easily a 3500+ lens. Think about like the 28-70 F2 Canon and others. And you get a lens with a 35-150? lol thats pretty expensive. Might not be for everyone but tamron has a reputation of making great glass at a more affordable rate
I’m not in the market for any lens at the moment but I currently have the old Sigma 120-300 with the Mc-11 adapter. So for me if I had the money I’d go for the tampon 35-150 and I’ll round it all out with the Sony 16-35. The only overlap would be 120-150.
Brandon you gotta take that 35-150 on a wedding and you’ll probably sell that 70-200 like I did lol. I definitely don’t regret it. I take this lens by itself to everywhere and never feel like I need another lens. I have the 50mm 1.2 GM for my prime portrait but honestly I rarely us that now too. Only thing you may need is a wide prime like a 20mm for a big group shot which I have for those rare times I can’t back up to far.
@@marcusgregory9571 lol you sold your 70-200? Which one did you have? I have plenty of wide angle lenses even the 12-24 Sony 2.8 gm. Did you have the gm mkii?
@@BrandonColePhotography I had the original one. My partner has the MKii version and even tho it is sharper the confidence of only having to carry one lens for an entire wedding, event and studio work, I wouldn’t even consider getting another 70-200. And having a a7rV and the ability to crop in past the 200mm focal length if I absolutely need to is unmatched. Only thing I would consider getting if the rumors are true is that Sony 24-105 f2 lens (If it’s true) 🙏🏾🤞🏾
I bought the Tamron 35-150mm and cancelled the Sigma 28-105mm pre-order. Sold my Tamron 28-75mm ( that should have been mentioned in the video too ) most people have 24 to 70 that they won't use after they buy one of the lenses you're talking about. I'm loving this lens on my Sony A7 RV and my second body is a 50 mm prime f 1.2 I feel like I could do anything with these
70-200 is a great lens my favorite lens is always 85mm. But I only get to use it for a few shots at a wedding or event. For the most part I shoot at 35mm a lot to far back and everyone is in your way trying to get in my way
I am Japanese. I have a SIGMA 20mm F1.4DGDNART and a SIGMA150-600DGDNOS. Which would best fill the gap between the two? I only shoot portraits (weddings, events) starry skies, and landscapes. In Japanese Yen, the SIGMA is 250,000 yen and the Tamron is 190,000 yen.
The 28-105 2.8 seems great for videographers but I will never stop shooting with a 70-200 2.8 I use that 200 at events. The 35-150 2.8 seems good for small events.
What you are gaining is $2800 after selling the 70-200 f2.8 :D Because all you need is a GM 16-35 f2.8 and this Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 for most of the events... Tamron came out with this lens to eliminate the need of 3 lenses, and just carry 2. Alos you get a 35mm f2 primes-ish lens for environmental portraits. I Sold my Sigma 24-70 and my Tamron 70-180 for this 35-150, even tho I my favorite lens is my GM 35 f1.4 I only use it for certain projects, because this 35-150 is my go to now. I think the ideal set up is to have 3 primes and 2 zooms in your kit and you can do any kind of phot and video jobs, like the a 20 / 35 / 85 prime and the 16-35 and 35-150 zoom.
So for a number of years I photographed events of many different kinds both indoors and out, before I Photographed events, I was photographing a wide variety of subjects, mainly landscapes and wildlife, because of this is had a wide variety of zoom and prime lens that I used many times i used at least a two lens setup, so either lens would work as part of a landscape setup but no matter which one i go with, j would need something longer at times and that's why I love a 100-400mm Fujifilm lens as it works for wildlife and landscapes.
If am to choose, I will pick 28-105 f2.8 bcs of its constant aperture number and also the price value. Variable aperture range of tamron can give alot of headache when zooming in a wedding and causes light changing during the process.
The tamron is F2-2.8. Thats not a real big change and it's only F2-28 from 35-39mm. after 39mm it's constant at 2.8. at a wedding you are normally shooting natural light anyway unless something more intimate then that doesnt matter either
I own the 70-200gm2 as well and I have been thinking about these other 2 lenses as well... In the end however I just don't think I could give up the 70-200GM2... I also have the 2x teleconverter and the sharpness and focus performance are still so good.... I really want the 35-150 for traveling however and I'm thinking with the 16-35GM2 I would have everything covered with 2 lenses and then maybe bring an 85mm f1.4 for bokeh. I think that would make more sense than the 28-105 plus another lens... theres just too much overlap with the 16-35 and with the 70-200... and your stuck at 105.
@@_mariochristopher the only scenario i can think of where having those two lenses cover all possibilities and not over lap is a wedding. I think the 24-70 and the 70200 is still the perfect combo for weddings.
