The Sumerian invented the concept of time, they invented the system of 60 seconds, 60 minutes, 24hours, 12 months. Their language was like no other. They invented the word freedom. (amargi) The sumerians invented trigonometry and a better one then we use today. (Plimpton 322) They knew about the heliocentric solar system. Interestingly they were the first to depict angels. Sumerians were the first to make a map. We owe the sumerians many things.
    * edit, the second was not invented by the Sumerians.

Egypt has been a focus mainly because of the Rosetta Stone, we can actually read and understand their texts, in full, there is way more we understand about Egypt, and at the same time we have so many questions. Looking too far into Sumerian history would lead to pure speculation, due to the absence of some of their history, what history we have studied about them seems to have reached an apex.
Egypt still has mind blowing discoveries to uncover... Like "How old is the Leo Sphinx?" It looks like we could have been wrong about certain timelines, by thousands of years.
There are also great libraries we still haven't found, with one such library possibly underneath the Leo Sphinx it 'self. Geo readings in that area suggest so, also we know that Sphinx's had hidden chambers. Unfortunately, the Egyptian government won't allow archaeologists to dig there, however, the government have been digging up "water pipes" in that very area.
If they find something, I hope they share it with the rest of the world.

Never assume that the first to document something was it's inventor. Sumer was a unique and innovative culture, a culture of many firsts, no doubt, but human culture has existed exponentially longer than civilization. Stone age cultures had technologies which is why we classify them by Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic and Chalcolithic. They are the first WE KNOW OF to do X, Y, Z. Never assume that you really know.

The ancient Sumerian civilization, according to Andre Marie, was forgotten, not even mentioned in the Bible texts. Thus, when the French archaeologists brought to light the monuments of the Sumerians but also the coins which bore the Cretan bull, statuettes and amphorae of Minoan Cretan style, in the second half of the 19th century, the European world was puzzled by the depth of time of this civilization. and was impressed by the perfection of the artistic creations, which had been created at the end of the 3rd millennium BC. in centers such as Lagas or Grasso, whose every trace had been erased from history.

Presumably meant to signify societal status/importance. A similar practice is observed in the art of other cultures; it’s easier to convey the importance or power of a figure like a king or hero or God by making them larger in depictions. I.e. Egyptian pharaohs are usually depicted larger than their subjects.
The “watch” like wrist adornment is just that: jewelry. But it’s not a watch. It’s more like a bracelet, and the “clock” face is actually a flower presumably meant to represent fertility.

@@descendedofrigvedicclans2216 The Akkadians, Sumerians and Assyrians were three different cultures that lived in that area of Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia was the region and sometimes it was dominated by one group of people. For example the Sumerians were probably the earliest people to occupy the Mesopotamian region possibly going back millennia even more than 3000 years BC!!. Their culture was most advanced in the third millennia BC with the exception of the Egyptian empire. Then the Akkadians came in and displace the Sumerians and they were eventually replaced by another group of people. After 2000 BC it became increasingly difficult to keep track of the many different people's that occupied the Mesopotamian region. It is a fascinating history and fortunately there are a lot of good videos on UA-cam about these different groups.
And a word of caution. Some channels get a lot of the details and times wrong when these various people became most influential and dominant. Consequently I check out several different sources over time and you begin to see who is competent and who isn't.

the most interesting thing is that is no evidence of an evolving culture that became Sumer. The development of the things that are mentioned in this video would take hundreds of years, at least, yet there is no physical evidence of stages of development, only a fully formed culture that included much of the core elements of modern society. The answer as to why is what archaeologists should be searching for, the possibilities are intriguing.

There is some controversy about the early history of the Sumerian people. The earliest known settlements in Mesopotamia were in 6500BC as stated, but the statement that it ended in 4100 BCE is categorically false as I have seen several sources that state otherwise. In fact the Sumerian culture reached its highest form in the 3rd milennia. There were eventually overcome by the Akkadians in about 2400 BCE. The Sumerians enjoyed a brief renaissance in 2100 BCE, but this only last for a century or so. The Cuniform was still used in religious text until 100 BCE almost 2000 years later!!
And that early Cuniform writing wasn't developed until later in the 3rd milennia BCE. It began with pictographs similar to Egyptian hieroglyphics. The pictographs evolved into Cuniform in the late 3rd milennia. At least that is the dates of the earliest tablets of Cuniform of which there were thousands as the Sumerians kept comprehensive records.

    • @Gilgamechasaur
      @Gilgamechasaur 5 років тому +3

There could always be a dissenting opinion, or even some difference of opinion about what civilisation is.
We have a sort of proto-city in Catal Huyuk in Turkey. That one is really interesting. It was a town of about 3,000 people. I'm trying to remember the details. Buildings were squarish shaped and tightly packed together. No streets, but they surrounded an open area used for refuse. Entrances were actually on the roof. No doors on ground level. There was early agriculture, and a lot of iconography surrounding bulls.
Then there's Jericho in Palestine, one of the world's oldest continually inhabited sites. I don't know much about that one.
At the same time a couple cultures in ancient China would have also been developing agriculture...
I'm pretty sure none of them were as sophisticated as the Sumerians at the time though. As the video explains, they were a culture of firsts. As to why, the narrative usually goes; is that agriculture required irrigiation in the region. Irrigation required organisation and division of labour. This leads to cities. Cities leads to trade, leads to accounting which needs numbers. numbers leads to writing. Which leads to records. And there you have a recognisable civilisation that's almost modern.
Some of their influence can be seen in the bible, particularly the flood narrative. Also they profoundly influenced the Greeks. For example, the planet associated with the goddess of love and war, Innana, is the planet we know of as Venus today, the goddess of love, and that's no accident.
I'm pretty interested in Sumer, and pretty angry it's been coopted by nutjob conspiracy theorists influenced by Zechariah Sitchin's dubious translations.

Since the first Sumerian signs of writing preceded the Minoan culture by a 1000 years if there is any similarities between the two it is because the Minoan culture adopted some of the language through contact with the Sumerians or another group nearby.
In addition to that language that Sumerians spoke is unlike any other language in the area which include of course the Minoans. The Cuniform script developed by the Sumerians was also picked up the Akkadians who conquered the Sumerians about 2270 bc again well before any sign of Linear b appeared.

Primitive human society does tend to be democratic. In some cases we do have evidence of communities being ruled by assembly, but this is only democratic in the very earliest and most primitive of settings. Once cities develop classes, and especially a priesthood, even "republican" cities would have been ruled by oligarchy. There are a few examples in ancient Mesopotamia of cities being ruled by kings who are said to be raised up by the people. In fact depending upon what title the ruler took, he was more or less proclaiming his authority as royal and divine (Lugal), or more representative (Ensi). So it is not true that there was no democratic traditions in ancient sumer, it's just they are very old and by the time stories like the Gilgamesh Epic are being composed, such primitive organizational structures are seen as whole inadequate.

The hunger for knowledge was greater than the violence.

The Sumerians have been found living in the south Euphrates/Tigris region 6500 years BC!! Which means they preceded Noah.
There were stories of a flood(s) in this lower region 4000 years bc but those floods clearly only involved the local region. Those stories became myths some of which found their way to the Bible.

@@michaeldeierhoi4096 Thank you for this. Food for thought and educational. However, I think the Noah story is about 11,000 old so I take the Sumerians receiving a passed down story. I suspect Noah brought over many books and much learning which allowed their civilization to leap ahead quickly. I suspect their civilization is older than documented.

The Summerians Civilization was established after the flood of Noah A.S . Noah fought with Fallen Angels who had sex with Human Females where giants were born. Now Everybody has a question : How the Hell The Summerians were so advanced in every aspect of technology ? The answer is Simple that fallen angles taught them whom they called "Aliens" they taught them sorcery, astronomy etc. That's where "illumimatis" were born meaning people enlighted with knowledge than normal people. The Noah Kept on spreading God's message for 950 Years that don't worship aliens they are a test to you and Noah taught them to say "استغفر اللہ" that God will have mercy on them ( give them sons, making them land owners, giving them rivers and bounties of Earth and Skies) but they declined Noah's Message and started to preseve their seed in animals and plants then God said to Noah A.S to build Ark as i will open Gates of Skies and bring fourth the Global Flood that will wipe out all species except for what i order you to kept in Ark. Thats the real incident happend 1000s of years ago. The aliens their spaceships ufos noah ark they are all under the ice sheet of Antarctica. Thats why the world we are living is a hoax. Where money gets you things , tou have to study higher to get ajob then you amrry and you pay bills thats all bullshit. They are hiding the truth that aliens still rule the World. We are trapped in illumimati World.

The dates are way off. The Sumerian Civilization began in 3200 BC and lasted until 2750 BC when it became the Mesopotamian Empire. The first city arose in 5000 BC, prior to that they were villages that emerged in 6000 BC.

Euhemerus reports that the ancient Greek Minoan Cretans, led by Zeus, had settled in Arabia, Persia, the islands of the Indian Ocean, the island of Paghaia, Mesopotamia, where much later they were called Sumerians, until the Black Sea. and settled as chalibes. By order of Cassander, Euhemerus traveled to the island of Paghaia in the Persian Gulf. In his work "Sacred Inscription" he describes the life of the inhabitants of this island, claiming that they were Cretans who were transferred there by order of Zeus himself and lived in Paghaia ( Socotra ) under a common ownership regime.Euhemerus implies this "inscription", that he read it on the altar of Panara, the capital of Paghaia and wrote that Uranus, Saturn and Zeus were kings of Paghaia ( Socotra )and were deified after their death.
