No wonder the Rancor trainer weep so hard after Luke murdered one.
Luke was a bad guy.
Who knew that guy would do it…
Beast friendship is definitely a skill all Jedi should learn.
@@geetslys the death sisters are better then LUKE SKYWALKER
Later in life after he came to learn more about the rancor species, Luke would regret what he did to jabba's rancor.
"Rancors were a specis raptor mamals, native to Dathomir."
Thats like saying they come from space australia. It makes way to much sense.
It would either have to be Dathormir of Felucia, wouldn't it?
@@nutellamonsta5602 As it so happens, Rancors are found on both.
@@nutellamonsta5602 Rancors are found in a lot of places, but I believe they originate from one of the two planets. Obviously they were introduced to the other and evolved.

Crikey!
OT: Rancors are scary
The force unleashed: “ and I took that personally”
Starkiller time!
The force unleashed 2; Gorog: "OM NOM NOM NOM".
@@LCM-vo1rj *"Unlimited....Powah!!!"* ⚡⚡⚡
Oh yeah the bull rancor from the imperial felucia level.
Jedi academy: "No sh*t".
Imagine this for just a moment. A rancor Jedi.
The sith lords: i'm out
They're only semi-sentient. They're not smart enough to use the force.
Bruh,That's one big azz lightsaber
This remind me of the story of Crazy RPG characters people made, I heard about one guy making a Rancor force User for the Star Wars RPG. He had his Rancor duel wield 2 Jedis knight that were also duel wielding and chain to his arms and wore a giant back full of sand to carry his friend a Sarlacc Pit.
I remember seeing people make fan art of this way back, too bad I can't find it right now but I remember this was a infamous story people used talk about.
Would finally get to see a lightsaber broad sword being used......would have a hideous saber throw
A friend of mine called rancor’s the sharks of space due to them being perceived as out for blood
Rancors are half shark, half elephant beasts
Interesting comparison!
Damn that accurate
Although now I’d say it’s more like gorillas now that we know their full story
*Firaxa:* and I took that personally
I'm guessing Jabba starved it to keep it vicious for any prisoners he sent down there.
In the EU Luke regretted having to destroy the rancor at Jabba's palace and had it not been a life or death situation in which he had no choice he would not have.
I remember using these things in Empire at War. Night Sister Rancor riders dropped on a planet would trash anything short of a tank, and even then it depended on the tank and how many there were.
I don’t think the Rancor killed in ROTJ is Muchi, as we are told that the one in ROTJ was male and was named like Patera or something. Hope the beast master of Jabba found Muchi and they went on adventures together.
Muchi could be alive and now when Boba rules in Jabba´s palace it´s possible Muchi is Boba´s rancor.
Fun fact: Malakili used to secretly take Pateesa for walks in Tatooine. I don't know how true this is but that would be funny to know
"I am a nice Rancor, not a mindless killing machine. If I am to change this image, I must first change myself. All other creatures are friends, not food."
They are indeed intelligent creatures, and honestly one of the most recognizable species from Star Wars aside from mb the Acklay or Sarlacc. Kinda wished in Clone Wars when Grevious invaded Dathomir we would see an Night sister tamed Rancor defending the planet from the CIS droid army. Be hella awesome.
Maybe even have gor fight a rancor since both the pets and owners were attached to
The Nigh sister clan didn't use Rancor they spent all their time and energy on dark side magic, aka the dark side of the Force. The other clans still used them and talked about how the Night Sister clan was tyrannical and had abandoned many of their traditions... well in The Courtship of Princess Leia that is anyway.
@@Cmdr_Shepard1 True I guess, but I feel like they could use their dark side magic to control an beast. Would of been an interesting way to introduce the concept you ask me. Plus Grevious killing an Rancor would of been an fine addition to his collection.
*cough cough*
Agreed.
they are giant babies and need to be loved and cared for, protec at all costs.
So basically Night Sisters and Rancors had the same relationship as airbenders and sky bison
That's too funny! Imagine a Nightsister showing a herd of these creatures to a group of young nightsisters and handing them all apples to feed the rancors with. She'll be like: "remember, a rancor is a friend for life"
Sentience is the ability to feel. There’s a difference between sentient life and intelligent life. If you have a pet, it’s sentient; just not intelligent.
Indeed, the correct word is sapient and I wish more people knew that.
Yep, I´m totally fed up with a term "sentient" and "sapient" being randomly swapped.
And some animals are pretty intelligent too. Rancors could be on similar level with apes.
Thought sentience is the ability of self recognition to understand you are a you essentially.
Since a major test of sentience is recognizing oneself in a mirror
@@mondaysinsanity8193 This is extremely flawed test though. It´s based on human perception of the world, on the fact humans are visually oriented species, while the most of mammals have smell as their main sense and many species can´t see clerly object which are near them. They see themselves as blurred mess in the mirror. You wouldn´t recognize yourself either under these circumstances.
BTW people cant recognize themselves in the mirror if the particular part responsible for recognizing faces is damaged. They can´t recognize faces at all.
Of course animals who don´t recognize themselves in the mirror for various reasons have perfect perception of their existence. They can feel pain, so they avoid it, they can feel various discomfort like too high or too low temperature and avoid it, they can recognize not only themselves but also other individuals from their family, pack, herd, whatever... You can´t do that without sentience.
Even plants were recently proven to be sentient to some extent.
@@Mysikrysa And to add to that, Humans understand what a mirror is and the point of it. A dog or cat doesn't, all they understand is they were walking up to a wall and all of a sudden there was another animal. Intelligence tests like what they do for Ravens/Crows are leagues better imo, it's a small puzzle involving light tool use like pulling a string or poking something with a stick and it's for something that is an actual motivator for an animal: little bit of food
when that rancor died by the hands of Luke I actually got sad
Even before learning this about rancors, it's obvious the creature was acting out of hunger and didn't deserve to go out like that.
@@ScripulousFingore6133 yea it’s really sad
They’re like a species of Spartacus ... “I’m not an animal” !!!
Wasn't that the elephant man?
@@CollinMcLean it was Kirk Douglas in the movie Spartacus too!
Both very fitting sadly
Gonky was the highlight of this episode.
I WANT A PLUSHIE NOW!

The fandom menacers are obviously not real Star Wars fans because they aren’t obsessed with Gonk droids. GONK
“...greatest beasts of Dathomir”
Owl boi: “Are you challenging me?”
R.I.P Patessa, a good boi who had the misfortune of being the favorite pet of the second biggest scumbag in the galaxy.
Agreed.
You just made rancors sound cute. It's hard seeing a rancor being able to be cuddled by someone. Although technically anything can be tamed. It just depends on the person's methods.
Lol. Just no. Ask them boys liked playing with white Tigers. Tame means Domesticated. We can’t domesticate every animal. We can train many of them but not tame them. Very different things. You will never be able to trust a Tiger or a Zebra. My barn cat and horse on the other hand yeah you can.
@@bertellijustin6376 theoretically we could, but the process is rather inhumane by today's standards... not to mention, that when we finished what you'd be left with wouldn't really be the same as what you started with, in the sense that wolves and dogs are very different while still extremely similar.
In The Mandalorian: We now understand Tusken Raiders
In The Bad Batch: We now understand Rancors

I seem to remember that back in the day before we ever saw dathomir in main titles, that it was actually a lower gravity planet, meaning that on their home world Rancors were super fast and agile. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, because I cannot cite that claim at all, lol.
I read online luke regretted killing the rancor he thought they were always fascinating creatures.
I wanna see;
Jabba fed to the rancor
While the rancor sleeps it off, feed it to the sarlacc beast
I was actually rooting for poor Muchi there. Poor Wrecker, though. Should have used his smarts.
Gotta love the Courtship of Princess Leia references. Really underrated Star Wars Legends novel. Oh, and the Tales from Jabba's Palace story about Malakili and the rancor. Luke Skywalker was right... there should have been another way to end things.
Muchi such an adorable Rancor
Soon the galaxy will tremble at the power of Cuddles
I always found it hilarious how Silri named her rancor cuddles in empire at war
You know, Rancors sound like bipedal carnivorous space elephants.
Geetsly: Rancor's come from Dathomir.
Casual fans who have mostly just watched the movies and TV shows: Wow. Really?
Fans who have also played Jedi Fall Order: Old news. What else you got:

Fans who have also played Jedi Fall Order: Wow. You sir are the smartest and wisest when it comes to Star Wars lore.
This is exactly the thoughts going through my head watching this 😂
Laughs in legends
Where did they appear on dathomir in fallen order? I only remember the Nydak creatures
That mega sarlaac on Felucia and the Gorog were the only creatures I've seen that were large enough to eat rancors.
that's a order trooper,
ROGER ROGER
... I'm willing to follow orders, but I'M NOT GOING TO FOLLOW SUCH AN IMMOR... nevermind, I thought it was some sort of morally ambiguous order.
Ah, the Rancor. Or as I call them, “the bulldogs of the Star Wars galaxy”.
Mate you have opened my eyes and ears to the Star Wars universe so much. Thank you! Always was interested what happens "behind the scenes" and who the characters are and what not. I've enjoyed watching these videos on your channel a lot.
7:13: Hehe, I just watched 100% Star Wars' video about Legends earlier, and honestly, they probably would retcon it again. They already did retcon specific events in the Ahsoka novel and Depa Billaba's demise from the Dume comics on TCW S7 and TBB, so...
Not going to lie, I liked this week's episode, but I also really want to find out more about the main plot, like with the bounty hunters, Crosshair, and all that.
From how you describe Rancors, overall, it seems they're akin to say gorillas or even elephants, as both are capable of social order as well as some very primitive tool usage (both are known to use sticks/branches for various reasons) as well as pass down knowledge through generations (especially elephants who pass down knowledge of water sources and such.) And, of course, both have been utilized by humans for entertainment and/or warfare. They also seem to have a similar relationship to Night Sisters as banthas to Tusken Raiders.
Eddie's rancor jedi. "Um sir we need to call in An orbital stike on my position like now!" - Clone trooper following Order 66
After orbital strike: “he blocked it RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!” - the clones breaking free of their inhibitor chips out of shear fear of this terror.
Everyone is just lucky Gonky didn’t use his super GONK red brick
Too powerful for the current canon.
Keep it down! The crime lords will hear you
you're by FAR my favorite Star Wars youtuber!

I don’t understand
I'd like to call this a star wars moment.
Omega is like a nightsister now, even has a bow and rode a rancor.

I think we all know what happened to Jabba's Rancor
Cough.... Luke

I love the Rancor takedowns on Felucca in The Force Unleashed.

Because Lucasfilm likes to bully Mark Hamil for being an animaloving vegetarian

I got kinda sad when Luke kill the rancor it was just hungry poor thing being reduced to a starved beast
I always thought the Witches riding Rancors were metal af.
Like you could put them on a heavy metal album cover.

I can see the possibility that Muchi was intended to become Patissa's mate. Or perhaps she is to be Bib's pet instead. He did show quite some affection for her, afterall.
So Muchi could be Boba´s pet now.
Only old star wars fans will remember Cuddles.
Thanks for the heads up, I didn’t know this was bad bunch. I’m not watching it until the end of the season because I prefer to binge
Cute Rancor doesn’t exist, it can’t hurt you.
Cute Rancor:
In the Star Wars Novel 'The Courtship of Princess Leia', it was stated that the Rancors would not serve the Nightsisters because "they treated them as slaves so they always ran away!
Malakili’s sorrow over losing the rancor were felt by me.
I remember that book.
So rancorous are a combination of an exotic pet mixed with an "aggressive" breed of dogs.
Jabba’s Rancor’s name is my cat’s nickname
LOL. Time to name my firstborn after the rancor!
Lol, even my grandma's cat has the same name
this episode was everything i never knew i wanted
Mooshi was probably pitted against Pateesa when Jabba received him as a birthday present
Disney: Lets reboot Jaws.
Everyone: Nobody is asking for that though.
Disney: We think Jaws is misunderstood and needs a redemption story.
If Muchi ends up being a different rancor than the one Luke killed then I hold out hope that the bad batch will get a bigger ship and find Muchi again and rescue her and make her a part of the squad that would be awesome
I love Echo during the clone wars in this he is the sol survivor of dominion squad an 5 was my first choice but 65 crescent garrison commander killed him
That commander was named fox, and he got the “Vader does something he doesn’t want palpatine to know about, so he leaves no witnesses” treatment. So suffusive to say he got what he deserved.
Now Heres an idea for a way to fight the Empire... Training Rancor soldiers.. Rebels sending squads of Rancors against Stormtroopers trained to use blaster rotary cannons an other heavy weapons and giant war clubs and battle axes, etc??? Thatd been a nightmare for the Stormtroopers..
Imagine the start if "New Hope" would've gone quite not so wrong sided had a few of these were sicked on the Stormtrooper boarders. An Vader woulda had a hard time against something so big.. Assuming any could fit in that hallway if they could ACTUALLY be made friends or convinced to enlist with a Rebel unit.
I forget which of the older SW games it was, but one bit had a rancor in it, and I remember just about shitting myself when I heard the thing bellowing. Yea, I'm an in-training Jedi and I have a lightsaber, but FUCK getting THAT CLOSE to something that big.
I was sad before when the rancor did in the film, Now i feel even sadder
Star wars empire at war zanns consortium, a command and conquer type game, has Nightsister female hero named silri that has a lightsaber whip but more important can summon a rancor called cuddles
I feel like ever since the rancor in the Return of the Jedi, people saw them as blood thirsty monsters. To be honest I don't blame them, but I see them as intelligent, semi-sentient animals who adapted to survive a dangerous planet. Besides their deadly natural, they're very loving and loyal towards those they bond with.
I do think they were implying that the rancor in the Bad Batch was the same one in Return of the Jedi. Or, that's just what I took from it.
can anyone else hear the tapping in the background thought i was going crazy until i stopped and replayed 7:55
They are super cute
This episode of bad batch made me love Rancors even more. I really hope the cute one from bad batch is not the one Luke kills, that would be depressing.
Dogs may be mans best friend
But rancor’s are nightsisters best companion
I was hoping rancors were connected to the dark side of the force, like the Rakata.
Glad I don't need to know any of this when I'm busy slaying rancors in Force Unleashed.
Mother "I'm gonna ride a Rancor into battle and fuck up" Allya
I remember the guy who cried at the death of the rancor in the og trilogy, my parnets said it was the guys pet. I couldn’t really enjoy the movie after a bit.
Rancors are just giga parrots without wings.
everything we could have hoped for except for Captain Rex
If you remember the force unleashed the rancors was a nightmare
Semi Sentients are the most dangerous beings. It means they are more aware than mere beasts, and are capable of more complex actions. Such as the tool use stated in the video. Imagine a force sensitive rancor manipulating the environment around you...
7:29 Mark Hamill isn't gonna like that
I'm doing a star wars rp with some peeps our group has a fully grown rancor that is our pet/laborhelp/ war mount Betsy is best girl! She only eats sentient species when our group puts stormtrooper helmets on them. Betsy's a good girl she loves belly scratches and dianoga meat!
What better mount is there for a Mandalorian? Boba and Rancor, until he gets knocked off and Grogu has to Force commune with it
Some questions about the devilainians. Going from hunter gather to space age seems like a hug gap. And if make need to explore wouldn't be more likely the males played larger role the development of hyperdrive . And trying make females seem so good. You adknowlaged they are one who have capitol punishment .
They always interconnect everything so they will probably say it’s the same rancor Luke kills.
As an animal lover, my heart always broke over Malakili crying over his Rancor :(
Man, the amount of my brothers eaten by the ranchor on the jabba palace map in the last 16 years 😥
So.. Rancors are actually intelligent.... after all this time, i thought they were just another type of alien animal.
Favorite episode so far, anything to do with jabba
Good taste!
He ran for public office and was elected tax collector for the New Republic
Hutts HAVE birthdays?!
I'd like to see a followup on this video, now that we've seen Boba Fett's rancor.
Thanks to the new Andor show, the Rakata are now Canon!!!!
Say, what was the type of saberstaff used in the KotOR I footage in this vid? It looks really unique for a purple saberstaff.
