Love them both but as far as their differences, Josh is so much older, his voice is much mature and that comes with the age. Most importantly, his singing doesn't affect me in the way Iam singing does. Now don't get me wrong, I love listening to Josh's music. He's one of my favorites. Now As for Iam, he's amazingly pure and soothing to the soul. Imagine him five years from now, his voice will be incomparable and higher up on the scale. I mean after listening to him just now with his dad, his voice at such a young age, Good Lord, the runs he did that was amazing. Contest between these two is not a fair contest. Get two artists with same age, sing the same song and the same style. That would be then a fair contest. Iam being so young singing making those kinda runs in that song? Nah Iam won! We don't know if Josh started young like Iam has or not but, the fact remains, he's way older to be competing with Iam. Let me give you an example just to prove my point. You have a football kicker and a 13 year old child compete on who can kick a field goal. Who do you think is gonna make it? Exactly! He's been doing and pro at it. On the other hand that child kicking it wouldn't make it of course. He's still growing and he hasn't reach that point in his life yet and when he does, y'all watch out. Ok I'm done! Yesssaaaahhhh!!! Love your honesty. There’s no way to compare a bunch of exercised musicians with a young kid doing this living room experience with his dad, his master. One thing is for sure … Iam already crossed all borders and made a huge amount of fans worldwide. And this is just the beginning …
The trailing vibrato is similar in both singers. Iam is playing in a room without years of experience. I love Josh’s version. His dad adds so much to it! But Iam has a deeper soulfulness to his voice. When Iam has a couple of professional staff singers and a few years we will hear it again and smile. How old is Iam here? 17 years old? Amazing!
❤ First, I must say that while I am a lover of almost all genres of music, I am biased toward Iam since I heard him on American Idol. His vibrato alone does it for me. Josh, as was stated, is a more mature singer in voice and experience which makes it difficult to judge him with Iam! But Iam's raspy voice and vibrato seems more appropriate and relatable to a song like Tennessee Whiskey or any song with metaphors of alcoholic beverages that you would hear in a juke joint or nightclub environment! Josh bested the song in skill, however, considering what Iam's voice does to your soul, I pick Iam!Yessah! ❤

You made my heart stop when I saw the title. What? When did Iam and Josh get together to record a video? It's something fans of both of them in Hawai'i are waiting for. Then I saw you're comparing the two, so I have to speak up and share my mana'o as usual because I recommended Josh's video to you and I know a little more about him than most of your other viewers. Josh Tatofi, who is also of Tongan descent, is actually one of Iam's idols, and I'm pretty sure Iam is covering Josh's rendition of this song (which he's quite well-known for and has sung in many different venues with a few differences each time.) Although Josh is a successful Grammy-nominated artist who grew up among people in Hawai'i's music industry, he's one of those artists from Hawai'i that I was hoping Iam would help bring to the ears and consciousness of his fans in the world outside of the islands -- much as he did for James Blunt's with "Monsters." I've been hoping and wondering when I'd see support for Iam from Josh like the other artists on the Haku Collective video and see the two connect as Iam did with Jack Johnson, John Cruz, Paula Fuga, and Kawika Kahiapo at the concert. I don't know where Josh is right now (musicians are now often away touring or recording) or if there has been some social media connection I've missed, but I'm quite curious why it hasn't happened yet, especially because of their Tongan ties. I gave you some relevant background info on Josh's life and music, but for now, it doesn't look like Iam is going to cover one of his songs on American Idol (Josh is very much into Hawaiian music now, which Iam is not), and it looks like he's not going to be able to. He's doing three songs for the finale - probably a "Monsters" duet with James Blunt (which will be epic), his new single "I'll Be Seeing You," and in the past, the judges chose a song for each of the Top 3, but I think it was from their Idol performances, nothing new. Who knows? Three songs to practice and stage for the finale in a few days is a lot without having to learn something they haven't done for Idol before. In any case, if Iam someday gets to sing with Josh Tatofi, even informally, it will be a thrill of a lifetime!

here's my take on Josh vs Iam. Josh is a season pro and can play around with his vocal range, and he sound more comparison to Luther Vandros than it is Iam's tone. Iam's voice is not matured it seems like on this video, however, you can hear a distinct IAM vibrato with emotions. Like I said before, he has this soothing fade away whispery vibrato and his vocals are maturing and is getting him up there. He doesn't have confidence because fame is not wrapped around him yet it's still overwhelming for him, and his dad's dream is for him to be on Idol. He knows his guitar, he knows a lot of covers, and surely he has pipes to back it up. The World is watching him grow to be successful.

Iam was 15 when the Tennessee Whiskey was filmed. that’s his precious dad next to him who passed away three years ago Josh and him are not at all alike except that they would be brilliant together and I am sure they are fans of one another now that Josh knows who Iam is. I was blessed to be in Hawaii to see IZ, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole SING. countless times and his love for his homeland in Hawaii and also he was pure Hawaiian very rare, I have never seen anybody else in embody his spirit🙏🏼♥️😇🌎🌺

You're spot on from beginning to end. Both videos are completely different and i enjoyed them both. There may be some songs that Iam cant do or may not want to sing just because those were sung between him and his dad. Time will tell though....just grateful that I got to hear Iam sing monsters and your video was one i saw first. No matter what happens from this point on, Iam will never know how many he truly touched deep inside when he sang monsters. Everything else he has sang is just the best. They are two different type of singers. Iam doesn’t have the same range, but he has others qualities. The only thing the same is they are singing the same song and they have a somewhat similar appearance. Both versions were excellent!

You made my heart stop when I saw the title. What? When did Iam and Josh get together to record a video? It's something fans of both of them in Hawai'i are waiting for. Then I saw you're comparing the two, so I have to speak up and share my mana'o as usual because I recommended Josh's video to you and I know a little more about him than most of your other viewers.
Josh Tatofi, who is also of Tongan descent, is actually one of Iam's idols, and I'm pretty sure Iam is covering Josh's rendition of this song (which he's quite well-known for and has sung in many different venues with a few differences each time.)
Although Josh is a successful Grammy-nominated artist who grew up among people in Hawai'i's music industry, he's one of those artists from Hawai'i that I was hoping Iam would help bring to the ears and consciousness of his fans in the world outside of the islands -- much as he did for James Blunt's with "Monsters."
I've been hoping and wondering when I'd see support for Iam from Josh like the other artists on the Haku Collective video and see the two connect as Iam did with Jack Johnson, John Cruz, Paula Fuga, and Kawika Kahiapo at the concert. I don't know where Josh is right now (musicians are now often away touring or recording) or if there has been some social media connection I've missed, but I'm quite curious why it hasn't happened yet, especially because of their Tongan ties.
I gave you some relevant background info on Josh's life and music, but for now, it doesn't look like Iam is going to cover one of his songs on American Idol (Josh is very much into Hawaiian music now, which Iam is not), and it looks like he's not going to be able to. He's doing three songs for the finale - probably a "Monsters" duet with James Blunt (which will be epic), his new single "I'll Be Seeing You," and in the past, the judges chose a song for each of the Top 3, but I think it was from their Idol performances, nothing new. Who knows? Three songs to practice and stage for the finale in a few days is a lot without having to learn something they haven't done for Idol before. In any case, if Iam someday gets to sing with Josh Tatofi, even informally, it will be a thrill of a lifetime!

here's my take on Josh vs Iam. Josh is a season pro and can play around with his vocal range, and he sound more comparison to Luther Vandros than it is Iam's tone. Iam's voice is not matured it seems like on this video, however, you can hear a distinct IAM vibrato with emotions. Like I said before, he has this soothing fade away whispery vibrato and his vocals are maturing and is getting him up there. He doesn't have confidence because fame is not wrapped around him yet it's still overwhelming for him, and his dad's dream is for him to be on Idol. He knows his guitar, he knows a lot of covers, and surely he has pipes to back it up. The World is watching him grow to be successful.

Iam was 15 when the Tennessee Whiskey was filmed. that’s his precious dad next to him who passed away three years ago Josh and him are not at all alike except that they would be brilliant together and I am sure they are fans of one another now that Josh knows who Iam is.
I was blessed to be in Hawaii to see IZ, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole SING. countless times and his love for his homeland in Hawaii and also he was pure Hawaiian very rare, I have never seen anybody else in embody his spirit🙏🏼♥️😇🌎🌺

You're spot on from beginning to end. Both videos are completely different and i enjoyed them both. There may be some songs that Iam cant do or may not want to sing just because those were sung between him and his dad. Time will tell though....just grateful that I got to hear Iam sing monsters and your video was one i saw first. No matter what happens from this point on, Iam will never know how many he truly touched deep inside when he sang monsters. Everything else he has sang is just the best. My goodness how he has grown....we all have and its because of that audition by Iam Tongi!!!

Like you say Iam is probably only 16/17 and growing, beautiful singing with his dad Rodney and your right Twur he is maturing, I cannot compare them...There is no comparison for me to make except they are both fantastic according to where they are both at...both magnificent vocalists...
First time seeing Iam, this young man is as smooth as silk and has an extremely bright future. Josh is a new comer to me also, both have a place in my song list in the future. Thanks for enlightening me . I'll be watching for recordings.

Tatofi's vocals are more like Luther Vandross and Aaron Neville. It's like honey. Iam can get to that level (if he wants to) with time and experience. Iam is very raw right now but they both have the same heritage and spirit. Iam's vocals are being compared to Braddah Iz because of some of that rawness I think. Even tho Iz had a higher pitch, RIP🤍 But again all Polynesian🌺
