One bit of feedback is that the the "flat" / relaxing tone, while perfect for helping sleep in most cases, is a bit distracting when reading an emotional part (like angry or urgent parts could (should?) have some emotion in them, otherwise it feels unnatural and a bit jarring.) I'm not sure how to balance a soft tone with emotion, but i think it could be done
I like how there is a sly connection in plot development between this and LOTR. We have a Hobbit, being set on an impossible task by Gandalf. How did Gandalf think 12 Dwarves plus one measly Hobbit could take on Smaug? Gandalf couldn’t know about the finding of the Ring, which made Bilbo into the superb burglar they needed. Similarly, Gandalf sent Frodo on a fool’s errand into Mordor. But in both cases it all went well! We can only surmise Gandalf could see the future somehow.
