I really want it to be about just doing whatever u what with life. How one being has no real direction or purpose in life and is just left to do whatever in Minecraft. And in the end narrators tell this poem
Maybe Steve starts as the guy who just wants to survive, the guy who finally has ambitions and fights bosses and saves villages from raids, and maybe commits evil we all have in Minecraft out of boredom. Maybe he unlocks creative mode after returning from the end and is bored after enjoying being a god

I believe the message that Minecraft is pushing is not to let your imagination go wild, but to enjoy life and live it to its fullest. Cherish the moments you spend with people. People die, you die. But your memories will live on forever till the end of time.
Some people who hate or don’t understand video games don’t see it the way we do. We see the world as something to be explored and seeing what different worlds would look like. It’s a massive shame that a lot of people will never get to experience it.

I have felt that. Up until I turned 18 I have had friends that I'd know n my entire life, we hung out and played minecraft and other games for hours and hours. We would go into the woods and make up games and play those, and we would go around town making games and having fun. We ended up doing something so dumb in hindsight it makes me laugh, but when we were caught they all turned on me, blamed it on me. I felt hollow after that. I didnt do anything after that. For a long time, I just existed.
It took me a year but I got out of my depression, I miss the old me, the times where I could just walk over to my friends house and have fun but... I like today, I enjoyed yesterday and even though I am not ready for tomorrow, Im just glad I made friends outside of my main group because they help me be prepared for whatever lies ahead.

Just seeing them makes me cry because the impact of the words are ao strong. They are not just words on a screen when you read them its a person telling you its okay and to just live. Its beautfiul and i dont regret anything. And i cried. I sobbed. It hit me where i needed it.

No, it was created specifically for minecraft. Notch liked his writing and asked him to make something for the end of the game. But he let the author just do whatever he wanted, and what ended up happening was this, and he assumed it would probably get trimmed or edited, but it got put into the game in full with no changes.
Also it's public domain now because the author never actually signed any sort of contract, so he retained full rights to the poem, and he decided to put it in public domain after some fuckery by microsoft.

When I first beat the ender dragon my dad found me still crying an hour later. I was a teen and bawling my eyes out over it and it was one of the only times I let someone else comfort me. I read the entire ending the first time I reached it unlike most people, I love video games so I wanted to know the full thing including the ending and I cried because I understood.
I was relatively mature as a kid, I had to be, I spent a lot of time alone, never asked others for help even when I desperately needed it for fear of troubling them, made rules for myself even if my parents didn't tell me not to do something, and I hated interacting with other people, even my family(who were a large part of why I ended up like that but also did love me, we all care for each other but it's a really toxic family, my coping mechanism was to block them all out). I was already seen as a weird kid then when I got into gaming this got worse with the school kids, so I shut everyone out, I went from my three friends(one literally dragged me cause I didn't want to hang out that day, the other got into a fight and we just never resolved it, and for the final one we just kinda stopped talking) and a semi there family to alone and I just made it work. The only interaction I consistently had when this happened was food and forced interaction due to y'know living with them and them being my family but my family (including me) basically lived with masks on during these occasions and pretended everything was fine, we all knew they were masks, we all knew we barely knew each other but it's just how we lived.
As a consequence I was rarely told I was loved, I was independent and did my own thing while my mom worked and my dad focused on my older sisters, I wasn't happy by a long shot but I was "safe", other people words could not hurt me if I didn't acknowledge other people but they also couldn't help me I could not know how my sister worried for me when I ignored everything they said, so for a game to tell me to appreciate life and live and how I was loved and amazing was overwhelming, to be told my worlds in a game that other people called a waste of time were amazing was too much and I appreciated the love and sadness in the words.
Too many people read it and took it as saying get out of your house and stop playing videogames but it doesn't discredit the short dreams it just tells you to appreciate the long dream as well, to not be me at that time in my life, to not turn away from a world you veiw as cruel for small dreams because in the end you are part of the long dream and can not stay in the short dreams forever.
I honestly think the interaction with my dad from this game is why I'm closer to him when I used to adore my mom. My dad was slightly abusive not terribly but being hit was the punishment for most mistakes and he was very strict, he didnt hit us for no reason most of the time there was a few times the main one actually being a bad reaction to medicine agitating him and my sister being in the wrong place at the wtong time, but he changed he admitted everything he did wrong and recognized he wasn't the best dad and he actually kinda sucked but he chaged he calmed down as he got older and he's just a lot better now hes not perfect and he still slips up occasionally but he's had anger issues his entire life and a few slip ups is much better the the past, we're very similar yet different people, he loves tech and sci-fi and a few fantasy books, I love tech and fantasy and a few sci-fi books he likes some songs I listen to and things some are wild or stupid and I like some of his and question how anyone could like others, we're opposites with bleed over into the others things, and we understand each other.
My mom didn't chage but I thought she was amazing because she wasnt there, she was asleep all day and then went to work at night and I only really saw her on days when she was relaxing and vacations, so I could pretend she was this amazing and kind person because I didn't really know her, I knew she loved me as she told me back when I was 5 and that was all I needed.
My mom isn't a great person, she isnt terrible either, she's selfish and altruistic and sad and well she's a person, she sets expectations for herself then gets really upset when she doesn't meet them and apologizes and begs for forgiveness when we didn't even ask for what she was trying to reach. I think the best way to explain her is this, I hate the water but she always worked overtime every year to get us one vacation at a waterpark, but we didn't want a vacation we wanted our mom to be home for a day without being stressed or tired, we wanted to know our mom as a person instead of a reason for punishment when we accidentally woke her up but she wanted us to have a vacation that 2 3rds of us didn't want to go on in the first place, she loved us but she wanted to love us in her way instead of just being there and listening to us, she had a lot of problems in her life and likely didn't even consider that we wanted her there because she never had her parents around.
And I know all this because I played a game and reached back out to my family, we still aren't close that's impossible with how we were raised but I know childhood stories about my parents now and I know what my sisters were doing and their coping mechanisms, and I have tons of nieces and well its held together by tape and willpower but it somewhat resemebles a family.

Its crazy to think that minecraft is now 15 years old, and that i am 20.

I read the end poem once. Never understood it. I was young. I skipped it every time after that- assumed it was meaningless. Now, after I watch this video, older and more understanding, I realise the true beauty and depth that was embedded into this.. “dream”, more complex than I could’ve ever imagined.
The production and performance of this video, is absolutely incredible. The thought behind all the imagery and representation perfectly captured the meaning behind the words on a screen. The music added to the atmosphere, creating a melancholic and nostalgic feeling- as the music is familiar to all those who played Minecraft- , while also creating vibrancy and hope.
Literal shivers crept down my spine, as this poem came to an end. It felt short, I was fully embracing the emotions I was experiencing. I want to cry. I cannot cry. It almost hurts, in a good way. It gives similar feeling to the end of “Stampy’s Lovely World”- regret I couldn’t be there the entire time.
I really needed to hear some of the words too- sometimes I feel unloved, sometimes I feel empty, sometimes I feel trapped and asleep in my own body. Has this changed how I feel? Maybe. Has this changed the way I think? I hope so.
So much comfort and peace came from this one source. Minecraft was such an amazing distraction from so many happenings. Now, I will wake up, and stop ignoring.
Now I’m just rambling, and I won’t keep anyone any longer. Thanks for reading this random analysis, now: let us achieve out next level!

This poem is so beautiful, it gives strong emotion just from words on a screen, letting you know you’re loved, and you’re stronger, and that life is more beautiful than you think. I love it so much, it could make me cry. 🥹

this entire video showed me more purpose in life, i believe i do have a good and simple life but i just don’t often find myself as happy as i once was anymore. i never paid attention to the end poem whenever i did finish fighting the ender dragon but i never realised how deep it’d get. this has awoken a new feeling in me where i now believe i do want to go out there talk to more people and live life to its fullest instead of just going to work and then sleeping everyday. thank you for awaking something in me.

    “Nature’s first green is gold,
    Her hardest hue to hold.
    Her early leaf’s a flower;
    But only so an hour.
    Then leaf subsides to leaf.
    So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.” Robert frost. Also from one of the best books ever written the outsiders. Figured it was relevant to this

Thank you sir for this video, i am dealing with Depression from a lot of months now, nothing seems worthy, but for some reason this video popped in my UA-cam Feed, even tho i have played a lot of minecraft i never for once taken the time to fully understand and read the end game Poem, And i just can't thank you enough how well you have captured the emotions, and how you made me feel that the universe Still LOVES ME, don't know why i am getting teary eyes. It's very hard when you don't have someone close to you someone whom you can share your feelings not even parents. Even Tho i dont know you Internet Stranger but you made me feel worthy. Thank You.

I remember playing Minecraft with my friend one night when I was 12. We were in creative, just messing around. My friend took us to beat the dragon, and I got really excited as I had never even been in the end dimension before. I remember beating the dragon and jumping into the portal, and unexpectedly seeing the title screen. I was surprised, even more so when an actual story seemed to pop up on my screen. I was so surprised to see something so unique and personal in a game that didn’t have much of anything. I didn’t quite comprehend much of the message, but it did leave a lingering effect on me. It made me think deeper about a lot of the stuff around me. Minecraft has had a lasting impact on the way that I think now.

I've beat the game over 100 times, made new worlds and new adventures, and I've read the poem the first time I beat the game, but I was like 8, so I ignored it and had not read it since, I'm glad that it was read to me, because I never would have done, or thought to read it again, and even though it was just a poem, it was not just a poem about a game, but a poem about life, a poem about the life, the life of a player
