That's why this is the greatest movie ever. Why bother to explain everything? Group of knights just met a random guy on the random rock blowing random shit up...
Practice makes perfect. In Skyrim you can pick a fight with a pyromancer and just practice healing yourself or even fighting him and healing him until your restoration is maxxed... just keep passively fighting and avoid killing the Mage. Be nice and paralyze him, thank him for being your training partner and leave before he gets up again ! :-D Easy experience points. Oh, and do be careful not to die.
Nobody skipped a beat because they cut right after he said it. Remember, in movies, long takes are uncommon as they are, long takes filmed from multiple camera angles are almost unheard of. Rule of thumb, everytime the camera switches, it's a new take.
What's really nice about Tim the Enchanter is that he is just playing with magic as a demonstration, he doesn't attack anyone with it... although he uses it defensively as a warning...
I was told that the name of the enchanter wasn't Tim. It was originally some long, complicated name, but was hard to memorize. So when the enchanter's line came into play, he couldn't remember it and just improved. An amazing improve. I can't imagine how many people were laughing on set when he said that.
+kwijung Actually it was decided that it would be Tim. After the actor couldn't pronounce the original name. It was not an issue with memorization, though.
Apocryphal story. Stop repeating it! John Cleese, on the DVD commentary: "I think Graham and I wrote this Tim the Enchanter. And it's funny how certain names have certain connotations, and when we were trying to think what he should be called, we came up with Tim - which was *not* a reference to Tim Brooke-Taylor - but I think was something to do with the fact the word 'timid' and 'timorous' and all those words indicating a lack of immense amount of bravery."
One thing I love about Monty Python is you can have Eric idle converse with Eric idle in two different costumes and believe them to be 2 completely different characters (born of the same mother of course 😂)
You’d assume that nothing could live up to Tim the Enchanter’s florid description of the terror that Arthur and his kin-iggits were about to face. And you’d be wrong.
lionheartx10. UA-camr. Does Total War let's plays as well as a few other games like Xcom. Mostly Total War. With Total War Warhammer he named several of his units after Tim the Enchanter. I recommend him if you like Let's Plays of games or want to learn the Total War system. And yes I know you only wanted to know who he is, I'm just, myself a pretty big fan of his and thought I might throw that out there.
From what I heard, they originally intended to have a huge showdown with the French men, and the Rabbit of Caerbannog was supposed to make a reappearance. They would have the knights reclaim the Holy Grail and give the story an ending that tied up everything nicely. However, they eventually opted for the ending the show has, believing it to be a funnier take.
It's hard to believe Chapman was drunk during much of the filming of the Holy Grail. It added to this particular scene quite well, what with the 'line amnesia' seeming like stuttering and terror. One of the truly great films around, despite(or perhaps because of) the little quirks like this one.
Nice touch with the Welsh references, I thought: Rheged/Caer Bannog/Ulfain Bedwin and so on... Either way, this is the most hilarious M.P moment ever. "You know much that is hidden O Tim" "...Quite" Priceless.
The best part was definitely when he shot a friggin' ROCKET from the end of his stave. When they ran into the Dreaded Beast of Caer Bannog they should've just had Tim blast it to bits. Edit: And the Beast of Aaargh.
I love the fact he says “there a some who call me ……Tim?” Just this simple line works in so many ways. Firstly, he knows that people have different names for him but he’s not sure what they are, but Tim is the most common. Also, he doesn’t call himself Tim, but quite likes it. And then you think but why do they call him Tim, it’s such a mild name, when he seems so fierce, dower and threatening. So maybe he has a is a very different side to him, that goes by the name Tim, however he’s not sure and only has a vague inkling that this might be the case. Brilliant!
It's also widely known that as Cleese was saying , "there are some who call me.......", he pauses because he forgot the rest of the line but then comes out with the unscripted "Tim?" They loved it so much that they kept it in the script
+rascalferret he was supposed to say some big complicated name but he didnt remember it so he improvised (hence the long silence) but everyone just rolled with it and it was funnier that way
That's an apocryphal story, I'm afraid. John Cleese, on the DVD commentary: "I think Graham and I wrote this Tim the Enchanter. I just want to share that the first time I saw this movie was at a sleepover with the high school band. Most of them had seen it and quoted it all the time, so I was excited to finally watch it. At first, I was disappointed because it was old 10th century BS. But, about twenty minutes in, I had a sense of what I can only describe as bewilderment. I thought, "This is the funniest thing I've _ever_ seen. I didn't know anything could be this funny."
After seeing this an absurd number of times in my life, I still find something new on occasion. Just before Tim begins to lead them to the cave and spraying what seems to be a disturbing amount of saliva while describing the entrance to the cave, he exclaims "follow...BUT!!!" . Unbelievably, I never have noticed Robin being so frightened that he ducks and hides behind his shield. This discovery caused me to A) have enough energy to type out / share this development and B) look forward to its life altering impact /s
I love how they're terrified of Tim in this scene, but after he points out the rabbit they immediately lose all respect for him (even though he turns out to be right).

He's a Scot called Tim, they should have realised
“Life of Brian” is better.
I like how it's *the* random rock, a very specific random rock that's widely known
"You're a busy man" is such a good line.
When you get pyromancy for the first time in a videogame and you're feeling cocky
not in darksouls though
+jax201214 you've never ran around the undead burg shooting everything with fireballs? xD that's what I did when I first got dks
i did just it wasnt that powerfull
Dumahs Assassin quite ironic hearing this from someone wearing Dumah' symbol
oblivion
It's the small details that get me, like how the squires mimic nervous horse movements at Tim's first fireball.
Something tells me Michael Bay would get along with Tim the Enchanter.
That's because they have. Tim was hired as the special effects director for all the transformers movies.
Trust me. Me and Michael get along pretty good. There's not a tree in sight that doesn't get put to flame
This should be a meme. Just Tim the Enchanter waving his finger and explosions from Michael Bay movies
TIM, 'Michael, I am your father!'
if I had magic powers I would be like tim.
Beard, horns, et al?
"You seek the Holy GGRRRRAIIL."
When he shoots the small rocket at the dead tree it gets me every time xD
And it got applause from the Questers
That moment when you notice Cleese totally making up the name off the top of his head and no one skips a beat
He didn't make it up, it was in the script.
+MrJeppe313 correction. It was made up, the script showed he was supposed to say a really long and complicated name and he forgot it
+lillyandgarth No, that's a myth.
nope, Cleese and IMDb confirms it too, that he forgot the original long name and just said Tim
Nobody skipped a beat because they cut right after he said it. Remember, in movies, long takes are uncommon as they are, long takes filmed from multiple camera angles are almost unheard of. Rule of thumb, everytime the camera switches, it's a new take.
A guest cameo of Tim the Enchanter tossing fireballs in the background would have made Game of Thrones so much better.
Lol
I had seen this movie maybe eight times before I finally noticed all the spit flying out of Tim the Enchanter's mouth. Magnificent!
Makes it so much funnier!
I love how John Cleese can do so many accents. In this movie alone, he does a common British accent, a French accent, and here, a Scottish accent.
And increasingly more Scottish as the scene progresses.
Theyre all relatively easy accents any one can do
@@Pauly421I beg to differ. Don’t forget much of the planet 🌍 struggles to speak English, let alone do a convincing Scottish accent..
@@aclark903 Fair point. I'm Irish so maybe I just take it for granted I can do a scots or english accent since theyre right next to us lol.
@@aclark903 they don’t struggle. They simply have no need to speak it therefore don’t learn it.
So this is what it feels like when the party gets a quest from the NPC
What's really nice about Tim the Enchanter is that he is just playing with magic as a demonstration, he doesn't attack anyone with it...

And this is where I got my name
Aye, that be my name.
Sup bitches
my friends in jihad highschool called me tim.
Cringe @@NotSaddamHussein
The mild applause is so great.
Craig Dawson hilarious
There is a scene direction in lLfe of Brian that describes a crowd as being “day three of a county cricket match”
What an eccentric performance
This is the exact type of thing I'd do if I was an Enchanter.
Is it really true that his name (in the movie) is really long, that he forgot it and just said the name 'Tim" instead?
Nope.
If he forgot it why wouldn't they just do a retake?
Because humour.
Mindless Ambience cause they didn't have the money for retakes
Were they really so budget-strapped that they couldn't afford one more retake? How much does a retake cost?
THERE ARE SOME WHO CALL ME....
tim
Monty Python at it's best, The Holy Grail is off the charts, So many great skits. Tim just blowing up stuff, It's just too funny.
Tim is the Michael Bay of Monty Python. XD

Damn sucks to be a Tim rn@@EmileJoulbert
There will never be another movie made as good as this in all humanity. And I am glad,
A masterclass of comedy. No CGI required
But it has that touch of Terry Gilliam weirdness. It was already beginning with Enchanter Tim’s fantastic display of power
I wonder if Tim does birthday parties. I'd love to hire him
What an eccentric performance!
"There are some who call me, Tim."
I could fill a pool with tears of laughter just from watching this movie.
Probably my favorite scene in the movie, and that's saying something. Hard to choose between this, the French Tauntings, and the political serf.
Your mother was a hamster and your Father smelled of elderberries
here we see demonstrated the violence inherent in the system!
Political serf
help help im being repressed!!
Kyle Wit Bloody peasant!
I’d like to spend a day with Tim the Enchanter. You know, just hang out and blow shit up together.
There are some who call me.............................................................. Tim?
Tim rifat

I really wish I knew how the movie would have ended if they didn't get arrested
They'd had prolly fallen off the edge of the world, as in "The Crimson Permant Assurance".
From what I heard, they originally intended to have a huge showdown with the French men, and the Rabbit of Caerbannog was supposed to make a reappearance. They would have the knights reclaim the Holy Grail and give the story an ending that tied up everything nicely. Best pyrotechnics...without flint or tinder
It's easy . Lol
I'm always dying of laughter while watching this scene.. :D
Not the Enchanter we deserved neither needed and yet here we are! 🤩🤩
You're a busy man.
I wana staff that shoots rockets!
its always the spittle that gets me. every single time.
Nearly every scene in this movie is hysterical for no good reason
Nice touch with the Welsh references, I thought:

"You know much that is hidden O Tim"

jokes aside, I love this shot: 0:32
Epic.
3:36 More incredible than Tim's incendiary talents was his ability to spout flying saliva. Close shave there for King Arthur.
Is anyone going to mention how much he spits it the last bit?
1:18 Apparently he can also conjure up mouse pointers...
"What an eccentric performance." ROFL
The best part was definitely when he shot a friggin' ROCKET from the end of his stave. When they ran into the Dreaded Beast of Caer Bannog they should've just had Tim blast it to bits.

Tim the enchanter, aka the dude that spends his time makes explosions because he has nothing better to do.

That's how I feel in Skyrim, tim the enchanter
Its absolutely the best joke in the entire film that Tim can obviously cause explosions at will and yet does nothing when they meet the rabbit.
Shower of spit flying out of Tim's mouth is a cherry on the cake.
A whhaaaaat? 2:32
avp802 A GRRRAIL?!?!!
Tim, the enchanter, was an ancestor of Michael Bay.
In the next mmo i play my mage name will be tim xD
+Agustín Garcia Fire mage in WoW.. :D
Makes me laugh every time! Thank you Pythons!
1:25......The Lightsaber prototype.
So, why do I feel compelled to keep watching scenes from this movie 20 years later?
A GRRAILL!
I just watched this movie with my 21 and 18 year old. they absolutely loved it for how "Random" ( their words..not mine) and quirky it was.
Billy Connelly would be creased up.

I love how they start with all these Knights and end up with 2.
Cleese @ his awesomest!
Lol at 3:37 he says a creature "so fowl" so hard he straight up spits it out into the air 😆
I think it was supposed to be "foul" (unless I don't get some joke)
The guy detonated half England!!!!
With nasty big pointy teeth
What an eccentric performance...
" a geh, geh, geh..." "A GRAIL?!"
The reason Tim was randomly making things explode was because he was grinding for exp.
The quite and what in one word each speak of the eccentric Tim.
This is the most amazing movie!!
Rofl
This scene defines the film and is so funny, I never get tired of watching it.
"What an eccentric performance" is one of my favorite reaction lines.

at 3:37 you see spit fly when he says foul ! the king sees it too Haha
this video is higher quality than the others, it should really be the top result...
Tim could've barbecued the killer bunny.
0:24 One of the knights (Either Gawain or Ector) has a stylized herring on his shield!
Look at the bones!
Never realized until now how many lines Tim spewed out like a fountain...
quite **launch a rocket**
Tim the Enchanter- Yeah, I can do pyrotechnics. I’m just not very good at describing what a beast looks like.
what max level players do in skyrim.
For a movie that couldn't afford a wrangler, they sure spent a lot of money on fireworks.
Tim the Enchanter seems to focus more on evoking than enchanting. xD
Tim and Boyd Crowder would get along good with each other. They both know how to blow shit up.
I love that their imaginary horses are being spooked.
This is probably what most of the budget was spent on.
I love how they're terrified of Tim in this scene, but after he points out the rabbit they immediately lose all respect for him (even though he turns out to be right).
"You know much that is hidden, oh Tim"
Quite.
