    Tip I learned. If you don’t want the crust to have an air pocket between filling, cook the apples in the cinnamon and sugar mix in a pan before . Then put it in the pie crust.

    My Friend,...375 degrees fahrenheit for the first 20 minutes and then reduce the heat to 325 degrees fahreneheit, for the remainder of the hour to an added fiften minutes if required, works...here...for a perfect pie, perfect results, no burn on the crust...lovely crust...but, when I make my pie here, below sea level here, it is 6 inches deep with apples, it is definitely with lots of cinnamon....and a good friend taught me to place butter or margarine under the top crust in small dollops...and then sugar the top with white sugar immediately upon removing from the oven. Your recipe is divine...so is mine...with mine, I use Green Granny Smith Apples, sometimes peeled, and sometimes not. My crust recipe, is my secret...and may become a wedding gift to someone in the future. My Mother gave it to me....aren't we Wow...

    You know what? I love how the juice oozes out. It's soo homemade and full of love.
    I'm a big fan of slicing the apple thin also.
    What is it with some slicing the apples chunky? Ends up too hard..
    And I know just because it may look a little flat, it does not affect the yummy flavour at all. Looks delicious, just like my nans. 🖒

      So happy to hear that! Ironically I screwed up the dough this year! Lol. My mom wanted to make 4 pies and I thought it was too much, so I cut the butter bigger than I normally do cause I was doing too many things, the butter dishes distrubute properly and basically fried the dough while cooking making it nearly inedible. Nailed the dinner though! Glad you had better success than I did. Trying to become a better baker for the channel! Merry Christmas and happy holidays!! Hope to see you around these parts more!

    Apple pie is one of those things that are kind of family specific. I would say that is way too much cinnamon, we like to taste apple, not cinnamon. But that is for my family. We also throw the apples on the stove top and partially cook the filling before it goes in the pie. We hate crunchy apples in our pie. All-in-all it looks like a good family pie. Oh, and the crust looks nice a flaky, too.
    One tip: cut the apples in half and scoop out the seeds with a melon baller. There is way less waste that way, and it goes very fast.

    • @NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW
      @NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW  6 років тому +3

      David Kuhns crunchy apples are the worst!! Empires are good at getting soft so they never end up crunchy. And I know that looks like a lot. But I urge you to test it once, casually, because you can still taste the Apple and the cinnamon isn’t taking over. It’s a ton of apples so it seasons them perfectly. But you’re right, there is no right way to do it, everyone has their methods and preferences which is why I love cooking! Thanks for the thoughtful comment!

    • @jaggirl
      @jaggirl 5 років тому +1

      Yay. I found someone who hates crunchy hard apples 8n their pie. It's soo awful.
      My nan use to do the same. Partially cook on the stove top. Which dom what I've seen on UA-cam is rarely done. I don't like too much cinnamon either. But I'm sure it's a yum family tradition thing that you grow to love, when you have grown up with it. I'm sure your pie tastes delicious too. I'm hearing you about using the melon baller and less waste. It does vanish real fast. Why my grandma use to make her pies 4 at a time in a roasting pan. Those big rectangle ones. She had a large family with many grandchildren. That she cooked for on special occasions. Got to love those European grandmothers. They sure knew how to cook it up large..

    Very cool and simple recipe! I think I might try it next week. One thing I was surprised about was no egg wash or anything on the top crust. Would that add anything? Keep up the awesome videos my man!

    • @NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW
      @NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW  6 років тому +2

      The egg wash really helps with browning, and creates a shiny look. You could do it. But we literally have never done it. I feel like it’s a little flakier without but I’m not like a baking genius so I don’t want say don’t do it. I just find it to be an unnecessary thing to do when I’m making 3 pies plus everything else. It just sorta affects aesthetics mainly. Thanks for watching bud!

    Classic 80% -I bet -recipe. Either you cook the apples 1st or you just mix and dump like this. Finished product looked crazy but tastes great. I can't tell you how many people tell me I use too much cinnamon. Did you mom really use that much cinnamon. This was not my mother's or my grandfathers apple pie. I made changes by slicing the apples thin and adding extra sugar and tons of cinnamon because as a kid I didn't like the big chunks of apples I do today. But I am probably the sane age as your mom. I love your recipes.

    • @NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW
      @NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW  6 років тому +1

      Yes you absolutely can. I know, it’s tough thing to manage, it’s all about the water amount. the more water you put in the easier the dough will be to work with. But it will be less crisp and flaky. I try to make it’s as dry as I can, knowing it might be a little hard to roll out but the crust will be better. So use enough water that you can just bring it together into a ball. Then let is rest for for longer than 30 minutes. Like you can rest it up to a day. It will help it relax and make it easier to roll out. Let me know how it goes. It’s tricky but I know you can do it.

Mom made me make 4, I rushed the dough, cut the butter too thick, and didn’t break it up enough, so there were these big spots of butter, I knew it was gonna be f’d but had too much to do so I let it fly...turned out the butter fried the dough to a inedible crispy crust. Embarrassing but that’s how you learn to never f that up again.
