  • In this video I show the method I use to get a door open on a GM that is "stuck shut." I will admit they are not usually this easy and take a bit more "fiddling." Some days ya just get lucky :-) -Enjoy!

I got an old 99 commodore the passenger door used to do the same thing, it has a rod instead of cable and some of that black goo that holds the plastic dust sheet got on the rod right where it went thru a clip and made it keep sticking, cleaned it off with acetone, no worries mate. It was good you showed what caused it. Now im going to make my mother breakfast because its mothers day here in Oz.

It has been stated hundreds of times about how valuable and educational your channel is. But I am throwing in my two cents worth, it is priceless! The most appreciated for me is that you do not edit out the obstacles and unknown variables that we all encounter when working on cars. The same can be said about ScannerDanner. You guys keep it real world and that is extremely important! Thanks for taking the time and making the sacrifices to produce your channel. Semper Fi.

I had a 1986 GM passenger side rear door that decided it would not only not unlock, but also not latch. When I bought the car, the owner had the door held shut with a rubber bunggy strap. I forgot one day and gave it a jerk and the strap popped off and the metal hook suddenly became a deadly projection. It smacked the glass and blew the opposite side window into millions of fun cubes that sprayed all over everywhere. I spent hours vaccuuming up cubes and also found they flew all over the yard. So now I had two issues. A door that wouldnt stay closed and permanent air conditioning. I ended up replacing the whole rear door as it would have cost me as much for the glass as a junk yard door. 6 months later, the timing chain let go and that vehicle got towed to the salvage yard across the highway from me.

As a locksmith I have done many of these over the years, swearing that next time I will pass on the job.
The camera makes things a lot easier than the light inside and a mirror on a stick.
When you said that was too easy it was like an echo in my head.
My worst was 3 hours on a Toyota then the door swung shut locking shut a second time.
Most interesting was where a small chunk of broken glass had wedged it's way into the latch 2 years after the window had been replaced.

I would just like to say thank you! I found your channel months and months ago. Its interesting and you can learn from it. Besides I like your humor. Anyway, Ive had some weird electrical problems with my 97 S10. Long story, short, I got a new ignition switch and Googled how to change it. Guess whose face popped up? Eric O! Not quite the same model (think it was a blazer so under the dash was a little different) but I was able to change it and all is well now. I don't have a scanner, just a code reader and I have learned that the ECM is not always right! Had to finally get to the point that the ignition died to get everything fixed. Keep up the good work!

Yep. Did the same job on my buds girlfriends car this morning. Thanks for the brake line tip, never thought bout that. Another fun door not opening is old Ford Rangers (I have 2 of them). Usually, they just won't open from the inside. The problem is that the whole inside handle is plastic with a roll pin holding everything in place. Over time, the pin will work itself loose and jack up the plastic "gears". Instead of buying a Dorman handle at Disadvantage Auto, just take the original one out, pull the roll pin out completely, so that you can re-align everything and then put it all back together with a slightly larger pin. It's crazy how much replacement handles cost when you can fix the original for a nickel and save the time going to/from the parts store.
