The reason for the bewilderbeast listening to drago, is that it was abused from a young age with drago’s weapon (a traditional tool used to “train” elephants irl) so despite it easily being able to kill him, it still listens to him for fear of punishment.

An interesting thing to consider with the villains of the series, is that they tend to be less direct antagonists. They lack a lot in depth and personality, but make up for it in the fact that they are a catalyst that forces our heroes internal conflicts. For example, Drago here is an extremely shallow villain as you pointed out, and doesn't even show up until like halfway through the movie, and then we don't see him interact with our main protagonist until the end of the 3rd act. That being said, he does force Hiccup to face two of his internal conflicts, which in this case is taking responsibility of being a leader and growing up to realize the ugly truths of the world. I personally think that this style of villain is in part what makes HTTYD such a great series because removing some focus away from the villain allows our heroes to go through a complex web of internal changes which makes Hiccup feel like a real person.
Also people still generally consider the first movie the best, which, didn’t even really have a villain, so the series already proved it doesn’t need one. Makes sense implementing villains in the sequels would be done a bit differently.
third movie ending will have you in tears. greatest animated trilogy imo i will never understand people calling drago one dimensional what else did people want from him, his family killed by dragons him not able to do anything at the time, he learns to control dragons because he believed you cant beat a dragon without a dragon, he finally gained power that he didnt have before, it got to his head and now his only goal isnt just to destroy all dragons. i thought he was a great villian and they really set him up in the movie as very menacing. 41:44 there is a series called dragons race to the edge its set between the time skip from the first and second movie and you get to really see his whole operation. thats it ive said too much

The first one is them figuring out how to incorporate dragons into their village life and the second series is exploring the world outside where is comfortable for them. The first series takes place after the first movie and the second series takes place before the 2nd movie and explains how they got to there including how Hiccup made Inferno(his flame sword)
28:04 … i read somewhere that hiccup yelled at his dad telling him to stop because apparently in the series hiccups was training with toothless for situations like that one and he knew what to do but his dad still jumped to save hiccup
So the queen alpha species dragon from the first movie is called a Red Death. It’s similar to a Bewilderbeast but less advanced in its dragon commanding because it couldn’t necessarily take control of the dragons that were tamed.
If you want to see how the drastic change in berk from the first movie to the second happened I’d highly recommend you watch the series HTTYD Riders of Berk HTTYD Defenders of Berk And HTTYD Race to the edge so much happens and gets bulit and revealed in those shows they do an astonishing job of connecting everything they do as good a job as Star Wars 10/10 can’t recommend them enough
I agree. Not to mention one of the best villains of this franchise (if not the best - IMO). Good-looking, cold, calculated, extremely smart - you get it. Moff Gideon like, but adapted to this particular world and to a kids show.

I do agree that Drago could use more work as a character but at the same time I think he did the job driving the plot forward just as a villain. For the alpha he controlled the reason why he was able to control it was because he abused it and made it fear him when it was a baby.

Besides, Valka's Beast was younger than Drago's and she's been knowing hers for 20 years. I would rather think that Drago had somehow aquired his from somebody already growing it in captivity for many years.

And if my brain is not completely lost af I have in mind that somehow they were able to took the egg from the dragon riders
A cool thing is in a book it is said that Drago lived this movie and survives in an underwater city where later Toothless and Hiccup end up. They fight and they destroy the city and drown Drago finally killing him for good

If you really wanna do a deeper dive into the (cinematic) universe of HTTYD, there's at least two series out there that show the crew going on adventures and meeting new people+dragons, tho the animation quality isn't as grand. Specifically, they are "Riders of Berk" and "Defenders of Berk". There's a third series set in modern times, post HTTYD3, but idk if it's worth watching, a lot of people hate it.

I saw the film with my niece and sadly my beloved black labrador dog passed away. So yeah I was just crying my eyes out at the ending. But just a great trilogy.
Still think the shows deserve some love too, I've only seen one UA-camr react to Riders/Defenders of berk and Race to the Edge but I've seen no one React to Gift Of the Night Fury which takes place after the movie, sure it's a Christmas special but they put a lot of care into it, the Friendship of Hiccup and Toothless in the shows and that Christmas special made me love the HTTYD franchise more and I love the other Dragon Riders too. Then HTTYD 3 came out and I had some problems, but a lot of... well some people on UA-cam stated their opinions on the movie, in short I don't think the ending is that great or makes any sense, the villain won, the Light Fury isn't really that interesting and the characters just mean to Hiccup, especially Toothless. I liked that they called back to Gift of The Night Fury with his auto tail but... Oh gods Toothless, they did my boi dirty in The Hidden World, I don't like his personality, they had the balls to have Toothless not dodge the tranquilizer dart, don't any of you say anything there was a way for Toothless to be taken down, his auto tail could've taken the damage, also wouldn't it get infected if not being taken care of properly? Also why is Toothless Alpha of the Hidden World's dragons, that makes no sense, there's so many things wrong, I'm too late to express these things but it's just disappointing. If you liked the ending that's fine, but if you look at an avid fan's perspective it's really weird and not like the characters to end things off that way. When I first saw this when it came out, it was heartbreaking, Hiccup never made his dream come true and all the Night Furies are dead, and I stopped watching the movies, never looked at the shows at the time either because they probably have nothing to do with the movie, but I got around to it last year and I loved them. I also noticed that the doll toddler Hiccup has in the movie was the same one Hiccup found in the show, it wasn't just an easter egg, glad someone on the writing team treated the shows as canon. Movie 3 villain what ever his name is isn't a compelling villain, the villain from Race to the Edge is a better one using his knowledge like Hiccup and even surpassing him, he was more of a threat to dragons but I'm not spoiling anything about the shows either take my word or go watch the shows for yourselves. I'm sorry for ranting, this franchise has a very special place in my heart and I don't think it was done right for it to end how it did.

Nah, this was everything a sequel should do, expanded the world and the characters while rising up the epicness of this universe, for me the 3rd is the "worst", at least plot-wise, very predictable plot which for itself isn't a problem, if the story delivers a good and believable narrative, which i think the 3rd movie didnt really managed to do unfortunately, it feels that everything that happens in the movie is conveniently put there so the story can move on and the events can happen, thing that 1st and 2nd don't really have. Grimmel is a good villain but they didnt did that character much justice, even tho drago as a character isn't as deep and interesting, it had way more impact on the story and on the protagonist's development.
