Episode 1 of Money Heist will be out next week - with an IFS officer based in the USA - where will discuss the lifestyle, salaries, and perks of being in the IFS vs. IAS Vs. IPS
How to bounce back after failing in the UPSC CSE?
I was born and brought up in Gwalior. When my friends from the rest of the world curiously ask me which place do I come from in India? I always have to state the reference to Agra (the home of the Taj Mahal). I tell them, I come from Gwalior - around 100 KMs from Agra.
While growing up, my city was famous for 10-15 hours of power cuts, crimes in the surrounding areas (Bhind, Morena, Chambal), and desperately poor townfolks who never had much hope for economic betterment. The situation was really bad - at least while I was growing up.
The only means to achieve glory for a middle-class Indian was to get into the #IITs, and if for some reason that doesn’t work out - get into Delhi University to later prepare for the #IAS exam.
And why not? At IITs or at DU - kids from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities will be exposed to a whole new world. They will interact will students from across the country, they will compete, they will collaborate - and will always be on the edge to grow!
Some of my closest friends from Gwalior - went on to achieve incredible feats on the global stage.
But for those who were left behind - succumb to a condition called the ‘losers effect’ - it is when you start doubting yourself, your actions, and every decision of your life after a minor setback. Low confidence is reflected in anything that you do in life.
And the sad fact is that 99% of young kids will fall into this trap. They will fail in some ‘life-defining’ exams, and the rest of their career trajectory will be downhill.
They will fail not because they are not talented, smart, or diligent. They will fail because there are too many people competing for minuscule opportunities in India.
What should you do in such a scenario?
1. Creating something of your own - I’m truly in awe of today’s generation from tier 2 and tier 3 Indian Cities - who are hustling, and taking asymmetric bets in life. Every week, 2-3 hours of my time on the calendar is booked for these young bright minds from nooks and corners of India - who are 19-22-year-old kids. They are launching some really innovative businesses.
2. Create your own quality network - One major reason why people at IIMs, and Ivy League thrive is because of the network they build in those institutes. Build your own diverse peer group. This is of paramount importance. Reach out to people on LinkedIn for guidance. Most of the people are kind.
3. Don’t be scared of failure: This is one thing my parents always told me. And this is the first thing I tell our fellows when they join the GGI community.
And lastly, Travel. It will BLOW your mind! And if you are in your early 20s - and are struggling with money. I will be happy to host you (free of cost) at least in the places where I’m based!
3 years ago, I missed #UPSC final list by 8 marks. My score in optionals was amongst the highest in India, my interview score was second highest.
It is extremely critical that exceptional people join IAS, but for those who couldn't should know that entry through an exam isn’t the only route in 21st Century India to make a difference.
Many youngsters preparing for IAS in India quit their jobs, take multiple years of sabbatical, and thoroughly screw up their 20s - in anxiety and depression with a hope of getting into civil services (that has a yearly cycle, less than .5% success rate, and an archaic curriculum).
There is no better way to screw up your life than prepare for government exams in India (without any backup plan).
From a career in the United Nations to social impact, to getting laterally hired - you can do a million things to create a large-scale impact.

Reasons for IAS over IFS:
Diversity of work
More resources to work
Better promotions
Easy to connect with friends and families as you live in India
Traveling around the world has become convenient nowdays.
My question: Were people aware 40 years ago? Why they chose IFS over IAS that time?
They chose ifs over ias bcuz back then going to a foreign country used to be a huge thing. Travelling wasn't as easy as it is now. If someone used to go to another country for whatever reason, people used to be very curious and fascinated on top of that going to another country as an ambassador was an even bigger achievement. Hence, people chose ifs over ias
I believe you are letting out the gold. Man it would become difficult for us to join IFS if so many people know the reality.
I wish you all the very best, Gurpreet!
@@namanshrivastava thankyou sir!
Yeah true that
Haha... Great...
Eagerly looking forward to "Why IFS over IAS"
Please do make more of such informative videos.
Thanks A Lot🌻
:)
This is gold, Naman. Huge shout out to you for sharing such insightful information with the world :)
Thank you! :)
All I know is this one IFS officer was posted in Afghanistan, got killed by taliban bombing, Govt of India's position was compromised. Another instance, Current Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra literally got thrashed by militants at Gun point when he was posted in Pakistan. Again the position of Govt of India compromised. In both the cases, dignity and lives of these officers were at stake....in IAS even if one is posted as a collector in any Naxal affected area or any north eastern insurgent areas armed rebels would never ever dare threatening the govt representative...even if they do they do it with utmost care keeping everything ups and down in their mind....I guess that is the power of an ias and the weight it commands.
First of all the bombing incident is of 1990s and it killed many diplomats , it was a terrorist attack and no one is safe from it
Secondly, brother i humbly request you to just put IAS officer killed on any search bar.

if u are so scared of being killed then join army as a para commando
@@AMANKUMAR-oi5xvwhy? Para forces are the ones with highest rate of casualties then why would someone who fear death will go there(this fact is said by those who were in Army and Navy)
Your information lacks credibility.
Look forward to the next video. This channel is a hidden gold. Thank you so much! :)
Haha, thanks Barney! Loved you in HIMYM. ;)
Your research & reasoning is so genuine. Finally some fresh & original content on IFS.
Looking forward to more such value addition.
Thanku for the spreading awareness!
I don't know why I'm blushing while I write this but your content is so systematic and paints the larger picture. You have solved so many dilemmas not only jst upsc but masters-career as a whole. Really appreciate you sharing your experienced knowledge. ❤
Sir, would you please discuss your journey of getting into Fletcher? How to balance upsc prep and learning industry relevant skills..?
@@ananyaray8474 Thanks Ananya for your kind words. I will surely do a video on my Fletcher Experience. However, GGI is officially partnered with Fletcher - if you were to get shortlisted to Fletcher as a GGI Scholar - you'd be provided $20,000 guaranteed scholarship by the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
Thank you sir, I'll look into the details! :)
Thanks for this wonderful explanation, Naman! 🙌
IMO, both the aforementioned services are good and choosing one depends upon the priorities of a candidate (and the thoughts of the selection panel at the UPSC 😉).
Nevertheless, IFS officer gets more to travel around the world and has a better global POV.
Totally agree! :)
Than you, Naman! Look forward to the first episode of Money Heist! Subscribed .
:)
You’ve been working working for a great cause! Every year more than a million people spend their crucial years of life preparing for a thousand vacancies. Besides, I only partly agree with your opinion that people choose IAS over IFS because of less exposure. Prior to 1990 IFS was preferred over IAS (you can check the ranks and service allotment); only after this expansion in flow of information and exposure people have started choosing IAS over IFS. This can be attributed partly to the fact that working and staying abroad is no longer an attraction for Indian people; let alone the cost of staying far away from parents.
Very true, Garvit! Good luck with your endeavors.
Excited and interested for all your videos to come. Kudos to u❤🎉
Heartly thanks to u sir for this quality content really superb ♥️♥️😊🤗
Thanks for your kind words, SK!
Quality content sir 🙂

This was really insightful. Will you please share more info about other ways of joining international agencies working on a global level
Duly noted, Sophiya. Will cover this aspect in the future vids.
My first choice would be the Foreign Service, IAS second.
All the very best, Summinthang. :)
Please make the video over Foreign services ..before mains result 2022..(Nov End) ... Please bring some light over IFS... And why should I avoid IAS.
Hi Suraj, thanks for your message. Here's the detailed video - I hope this clarifies your doubts : ua-cam.com/video/aRKZxgnmEw0/v-deo.html
Did you get in?
Naman, let me first thank you for providing such quality content on your various social media platforms.
I just want to ask you if you will be able to put more light on how one can contribute in foreign affairs and global governance as a career options aprt from joining indian foreign service.
This is a phenomenal question. I will put in a detailed video on this! And thanks for your kind words.
Looking forward for your detailed video.
U mentioned about connections of IAS is more than IFS. I will not agree with u here . As an IFS , u are directly in touch with President,PMO and External Affairs Ministry. As an IAS u rarely get chance to interact with these three as an IFS Officer get . I mean the level of connection an IFS Officer will have with President,PM can never be same for an IAS.
Pls do make a video for ifs over ifs
Sir , my 1st and last option is IFS . I want to become IFS officer.
Thanks for your kind words! I wish you all the best. More power to you :)
Please complete the video series before November 30.. Results are going to be declared by that time ..
Thanks for your comment. Followed through on your advice. Made a quite a few videos on this topic. Would highly advice your to watch through the podcast with Prathit! Good luck!
Please make video on how life will be incredible as a IFS officer
Hi Anjali,
The video is already out! Wish you all the best!
I m upsc aspirant my target attempt is 2024::: I want 2 be an IFS officer
Make a video why ias/ifs video pls...😊
Naman bhaiya ! I have a question , it's that i have eczema on my palm and due to which i have been dealing with it since last 9 years and now the eczema is not that strong but due to the long exposure of my skin towards eczema has lead to fainter fingerprints and my fingers are affected because of this and like no machine can read my fingerprints ! I just don't know what to do like will i even be able to give this exam ? And you have travelled abroad so in your experience can they consider my special case as i might not be the only one suffering from it ! Like is there any exemption and will I get to join the ifs service ?
I'm sorry, I don't know the answer here. I wish you all the very best :)
@@namanshrivastava ohh okay !!! Thanks for your wishes sir 😊

@@namanshrivastava yes, Sir. I have got the video now. Thank you for your work. Best wishes.
I f i can clear upsc pre and mains by any chance I would cprefer IAS and IFS only in my daf forms❤🎉
Naman
Another reason people choose IAS is because they want to stay in India
Many r homesick
They cannot live without there parents So they like to live in India
What will u do with ur career when u cannot be with your parents if they suddenly feel sick,
U will definitely miss festivals , marriages and all the happy movements and live Alone in unknown country
Also at higher position
Around 75% of IAS in single batch become secretary in central or start governments
But only one in single batch can become foreign secretary
And post retirement jobs of IAS r unparalleled with IFS
In early 90s it was difficult to travel aboard that's why IFS was first choice
Now anyone can travel to other countries j
Even another guy named Ganesh Kumar basker gave IFS as only preference
Thanks for the comments. There are a few flaws with the above reasoning - hope this helps clear a few things.
1. Argument about the secretary is wrong. There are various other secretary-level positions in the MEA - Secretary (West) etc. Additionally, postings to the US, China, permanent Missions to the UN, etc are given to the secretary-rank officers in the IFS.
2. Ministry of External Affairs is very generous and supportive in terms of taking care of the well-being of the kin of the IFS officers. Moreso, in the world, that we live in many cases - a flight from London to Delhi takes an equivalent amount of time than what it takes from taking a train from the remotest corners of India to New Delhi.
I will talk about these points and many more as we discuss the perks and privileges of the IFS in my first episode of Money Heist.
@@namanshrivastava thanks Naman
Looking forward to it 👍
@@messpice Of course, on it. :)
Make a video on their house and furniture and lifestyle and cars of ifs headquarters in abroad
Haha! That's very specific
But promotions in IFS are too slow ? and there are less chances to become an Ambassador ? isn't it ? please do clarify🤔
No! That is not the case. Like the IAS, it takes 14 years to achieve JS Rank.
Amb assignments are based on countries as well
@@namanshrivastava so how many years will it take to become an Ambassador ?🤔
Plz do make a video by IFS ?

The only reason to choose IAS over IFS is - Parents I think it's emotional decision but don't you think it's true as when the time comes of our success our parents would not be with us then what's the need of such success ...Don't you think it's true naman
