    Living downtown is fun for a few years. I would recommend renting in a modern building with views and rooftop amenities. You have to live the downtown experience to realize if it's for you long-term or not. For me, it wasn't but I'm glad I did it. I bought a home near Leschi/Mount Baker and never looked back. I can drive 10 min to downtown if I want, yet I have a nice backyard, it's quiet, there's parks and community gardens all around. It's also nice to not have to pay $300 a month for parking :)

      @@stasia108 You won't necessarily get into trouble. Most artists will allow you to have their music in your video but they will take all the ad revenue that's made by the video. This is a Content ID claim, and when this happens, UA-cam automatically adds a 'Music in this video' section to the description. More info in UA-cam help :)

    I remember my last Mariner club suite just like yesterday, however it was the late 1990's....and it was our company's; 5 lucky employees out of 500+. For good works.
    I had the company credit card; some prices are still etched in my cranium: a half rack Henry Weinhard's beer=$57. A platter of fresh veggies=$91. Two bottles of wine,
    $86. And then we each order a meal. Total was $700+. That was more than twenty years ago. CAN'T imagine the ballpark today. INSANE prices; haven't been to a game since! MUCH prefer the TV coverage, less hassles, etc.

    I lived on the border of downtown and belltown (corner of 1st and Stewart) for three years and can’t recommend it. It was awesome at the time for walking to work, Mariners games, and getting to Cap Hill and we had an insane view, but it was just annoying to do day to day stuff. Grocery shopping was a pain, I felt less safe walking home at night, and it was more annoying to have people come over for dinner since they had to deal with downtown parking. I also can’t imagine moving our dogs downtown. So much less green space for them.

    • @ahota84
      @ahota84 3 роки тому +5

      Same. I lived on 1st and Stewart and there was no good grocery shopping (Target doesn't count), a pain with parking, and the homeless people screamed most nights and pooped...everywhere. Its fun to visit (and work, I work there still), but its extremely inconvenient.

    • @THEWLLAS97
      @THEWLLAS97 3 роки тому

      Agree! living a little bit outside of downtown (9th and Marion), which is still nice-ish for convenience but just kind of exhausting with dealing with parking, lack of green space for the dog, randos just staring at you and getting way too close when you're trying to get the eggs of your car... ya know

    It's been a while (I'm old...), but I lived in downtown Seattle for a few years and it was great for that season of my life. I think the key to making the most of it is really taking advantage of being able to walk to stuff. If you're just going to get in your car and drive everywhere you need to go, it's not worth it - everything will feel like more of a pain, and you'll be paying a premium for benefits you're not using.

    I've lived all over the Seattle area - back in the 90's I had a loft at the corner of Terry Ave. and Union St. and loved it was at the edge of Capitol Hill and Downtown. I had a Jeep I left parked unless I was meeting with clients at their restaurants or heading up into the mountains to ski or camp. I walked, bused or taxied practically everywhere. My place had a two-story tall view overlooking the park over the Convention Center, had a peekaboo view of the Space Needle, and never heard the freeway with the windows open.
    I dated someone who lived at 2nd and Virginia, and another person who lived across from the Rainier Club and the downtown YMCA (again - back in the 90's) - and although convenient to grab a bite to eat at any one of the fantastic restaurants or going dancing or to the theater, they never felt comfortable to walk outside their buildings at night alone. It also had a lot of litter around and the smells were pretty bad (for anyone not living above the 5th floor of a building).
    Belltown was always a great place to live as it's really is close in to that central area around Pike Place Market and usually great water views (especially if you are living on the 23rd floor or higher. I loved the energy in that area, and the activity down there made it less hazardous for going out later for a run or walk. I also enjoyed my time living on Queen Anne - neighborhood vibe with views of the sound and a quick jaunt into the downtown corridor - just not as convenient as Belltown.
    A lot has changed since those days - especially with what the pandemic has closed down for good - and the areas near the music venues I was frequenting more before the pandemic hit - down between Denny and Howell along Minor, Boren and Yale have really developed some great condos and apartments - just lacking the water views. Plus, with the increase in Night Markets in the area it really has a young Urban Life vibe. It really is all about what your interests are and if that water view is really important. Do you want to be close to where your sports are, your food and entertainment, or even work?
    My dream since I got out of college had always been to buy up one the warehouses/industrial buildings near Pioneer Square - convert it into huge lofts for my friends - I take the top two floors, and the street level is secure garage/workspace. With the viaduct removed the views of the water from those buildings (the few not already converted over and modernized) would be amazing now. I direct photoshoots at the Bemis building which is almost across the street from the stadiums downtown and the studio we shoot at is on the top floor and look out over the bay and up into downtown. A pretty cool place if you can handle the game day traffic, garbage, and street smell.

    I’ve lived/worked in downtown Seattle for almost 10 years, and I can’t recommend it enough! Nothing compares to stepping out and immediately being in all the action. The convenience of walking to restaurants/bars on nights out is great, and as someone else mentioned, you have your whole life to live in quiet neighborhoods -- enjoy the city life while you’re still young and free to make that type of choice! That being said, I might recommend living closer to the SLU end of downtown if possible, like myself. The safety issue downtown in the area you were driving (especially close to 3rd) has always been pretty sketch and worsened significantly since COVID. As a female out walking your dog alone regularly, it’s something to take seriously. I’m excited to see what you choose to do next!!

Sometimes I feel the opposite urge to go get a townhouse somewhere in a quiet but walkable neighborhood, but there's something about living RIGHT in the middle of it all. I love having a ton of restaurants and drink spots directly below me, across the street, or just a few blocks away. Everything's so walkable. Plus with high-rise apartments being made with concrete, you almost never hear your neighbors or outside.

I've also always wanted to live downtown in a highrise and be in the meat of everything. It's an experience worth trying especially as a younger professional. Once you settle into a house at an older age, I think it's less likely that you would want to move back into an apartment/condo style place. I also absolutely LOVE new york city (wanna move there for a little bit in the near future). So being in the hustle and living in a vertical area is a fun experience for me.

    I am so sad about where I live, I read an article that spokane is like one of the top 10 places in the states for overvalued homes. I was so hopefully with home buying and becoming a 1st time home owner but with prices like this in Spokane I could neeeeeeeever.

    I lived downtown (near 2nd and Pine) for a year and enjoyed it, especially since I got to walk around Pike Place at non-peak hours. However, I always drove to get shopping done, which is probably a pain to do without a car.
    Biggest downside (which has only worsened) was the amount of...troubled people nearby, mostly concentrated on/near 3rd Ave. So I'd stay away from that street, as much as possible. It's worth experiencing downtown living as long as you're not committing to it long term.

    Future reference you can post broken appliances on FB Marketplace or wherever and people will come pick it up for free. You could maybe even sell it in some cases. People were clambering all over my broken washer I had it gone in an hour.
