I am going to my first ever furry con on the 31st and these rules and advice will really help me for my first ever time interacting with fursuiters or furries in general in real life! Thank you for this video, Beta, I’ll be able to better interact with people without being a nuisance or annoyance!
I got to fursuit at a local non furry con recently and it was really nice though there were definitely some ppl that went in for a hug without consent, petting me or just got in too close and weird. Most times people asked if it was even ok to take a pic but those few odd encounters were sure awkward/uncomfortable thankfully they didn’t last long. As for hugs I usually got asked before the people hugged me,some went in without asking and it’s conflicting because aside from those that ask (those are 100% ok) some of the “surprise” hugs felt too forced and where I couldn’t move or was worried for my suit while others were wholesome and nice; I guess it’s odd because I do like hugs but the way some went about it made me uncomfy (sometimes can be because of me being worried about my suit)
Hold on, I might have met you. Was it like an anime con? If so, thats a nice fursuit! I was with my friends and was walking passed a fursuiter as we were finding the exit. I am very suprised that someone is willing to bring it.
@@supabonkers4life949 yeah it was at an anime con, if it was in puerto rico and the fursuiter you're talking about is a hyena with pink hair and pink spots then yes that was me lol (though most likely you happened to have a similar situation coincidentally so it was probably not me lol) Tho if it was me then thanks! ^^
Aw, then it was not you as I was not in puerto but damn. It was the first time I ever seeing a fursuiter up close. Even I did not get to see your fursuit, its awsome!
I think the opposite should also be addressed. Fursuiters need to ask non suiters for permission too! I was at a con, and a suiter came up to me right after I had got out of reg line, and tried to mess with me (in a friendly way). It was really awkward because I was trying to find my friends that I was supposed to meet up with, and now I have this big fuzzy dog costume jumping around me in circles. I kinda froze up idk, it was a weird situationl.
Sometimes I unknowingly follow someone around if I want to ask for something but my social anxiety kicks in and I have to think about it for 30 minutes.
Great informative video, and yes please do that comprehensive list of fursuiting etiquette, that would be helpful for any new furries. May I add two more notes onto the list: (1) Don't approach a fursuiter with a dirty hand or food on your hand. Fursuits are expensive and difficult to clean, and dirtying that fursuit with these stuffs can permanently ruining it. (2) Don't poke (or even get close to) the eyes of the fursuit, and that include throwing thing toward their face or eye. The eyes are made up of fragile mesh, and doing so can damage the suit or worse injuring the fursuiter's eye. (On hindsight, probably just don't throw things at fursuiters without permission)
My fear would be the suiter themself because I despise being touched without someone asking first. These kinds of people make me question if I should actually get a suit one day
I wore a fursuit I made a while back at mcfc, and I was playing with a friend as a cat, and some random guy came up and just, joined in, grabbed a stuffed fish that I actually bought at the con and started doing what my friend was doing and bapping my face with it, and let me say, if I was any other person, I would have snatched the fish back and told them off, but no, I have crippling anxiety and just, played along hoping he wouldn't run off with my new plush. I almost forgot about this interaction completely as immediately after, my group walked around a corner and met majira and got a picture with him (With consent, lol)
Alright, this might sound weird. Given how only fursuiters use the headless lounge since it’s a place to relax and cool off a little, are their handlers allowed to follow them? A friend wants to get a fursuit and wear it at a con, and as their only furry friend, I might wind up assisting him and don’t want to commit a faux pas out of misguided assumptions.
Thanks for making this video! It's really important to talk about this stuff. I actually have a story about fursuiting consent (or rather a lack of it). I remember when I was on a furwalk in my kemono suit just talking to a friend. A guy in his mid 20s comes up to me, picks me up (mind you I was pretty tall) , spinns me around, and NUZZLES MY ARMPIT. I was so weirded out but I didn't say anything because I was only 13 at the time. Also someone grabbed my butt on the same walk?? I mean I get people not knowing my age since they can't see my face, but that kind of fucked me up. I still regret not doing anything about it.
As someone who is staff at an anime convention that actually has quite a few fursuiters that are regulars and even a couple of staff members this video was quite insightful. Granted, some of it I knew from being friends with some, but there was some good information here.
This video is very good and informative for any sort of dealing with people in general, not just fursuiters. I deal with stuff like this on VRChat all the time. For instance, on VRChat it seems like a lot of furries like 'licking' as a way of I guess the equivalent of booping? But it is extremely discomforting to me, but I encounter this constantly, all the time, multiple times a day. This is something that for me is exclusive for my S.O.'s, not someone I just met or even friends. Most people just try doing this stuff, without asking first.
9:16 I know but my my anxiety and overthink will just completely take over at that point. Of course I won’t question the decision, but I’d definitely get into this mindset of I need to say sorry and I’m being annoying and shouldn’t have even asked.
So glad to see that the message is getting out there, I definitely learned the etiquette of con interactions the hard way: I went to my first furry con, saw lots of suiters, and immediately approached a couple of them to pose for a group photo. Back then I didn’t realize they couldn’t see me approach them as i came in for a side hug- so that definitely wasn’t my proudest moment. Once you know better, do better. Thanks for helping others learn it the right way!!!
I usually wear a "Please touch me! I'm ok with anything!" badge. Just bc I love being touched. And so people would feel comfy with me, so they know it's all cool.
It was cool to see Comic Con/Fan Expo have signs up saying “cosplay isn’t consent” all around. But it’s sad that people still don’t get treated the way they should
everything in this is so true. I wish normies would also see this bc I mostly public fursuit as there's not many cons here and i dont really have the funds to travel to cons (nor the desire really)
Just got back into the community, before I was only able to be an artist because my parents didn’t approve but now I’m in my 20s. I’m about to start working on my first suit soon, my biggest fear is going to my first con and doing things that are frowned upon. I do thank you for making this video Beta! I have a lot more common sense than some of the folks you talked about and really wouldn’t try to impede, but I didn’t really think about fire hazards. This video was extremely helpful for a “new fur”
Thank you, this needed to be said it’s never personally happened to me but I see a lot of people complain about this on furry Twitter, and both furries and normies need to know this.
Me with social anxiety: *Hey, that's maverick over there, should I ask him to boop him?* Also me: "Shit, he looked at me for .2435 seconds, let me turn around and go real quick."
As a fursuiter, having a handler is super important! My boyfriend and one of my sisters were awesome handlers, carrying me by the arm when there were difficult paths, managing me and people for pics, telling me when people say something, or directly saying no, meanwhile my other sister just abandoned me in a crowd of children who wanted to take pics with me for halloween lmao, so make sure your handler is a trustworthy person.
The biggest thing with interacting with anyone, not just fursuiters is just simply treating them with respect. You do that, and everything's generally just fine.
I remember a person on Instagram ranting about how fursuiters are only entertainers, and that everyone should be allowed to touch and tell them what to do. Got to love the idiots on social media.
Honestly, despite you've likely mentioned con/fursuiter consent previously, its a good thing to bring up the facts frequently. There's always gonna be new or curious people. Vids like this save them from making those mistakes or at least shines light on how to go about consent at cons in a positive, respectful manner. I kinda feel like an ahole for saying this but I'll never fathom how people can be so oblivious or not read the room properly they lose all my respect and make me wanna actively avoid them... I'm referencing stuff like 'gagglers' or the ones who go full stalker mode on your a**. Ppl like that are obnoxious.
What if there is a keyword someone can say if running to the headless lounge, and someone asks for something. Something like _"Headless!"_ or _"Overheat!"_ or maybe even a sign from sign language, like the T for timeout. Pretty much anything, but made universal to quickly communicate in those situations?
I have a bit of a crush on wolvinny I think... she once met with me at the retro gaming swap meet before, and I got so curious... I hadn't known what a fursuit was back then, so I wondered what game her character came from.😊 she was very sweet about it.
20:10 ye taking pics of someone like that is rly not ok. some ppl wear the suit for reason and dont want pics outside of suit. same reason why some ppl dont want to do a face reveal bc they want to keep their face outside from internet for privacy reasons
A lot of this boils down to "Common sense is not common anymore". Having been to some events as a photographer I have witnessed cosplayers who stood in a group with other people chatting and with a beverage in their hand, being physically dragged away and in front of a camera. In one such instance, some chick nearly ripped off a piece of a cosplayer's armor, shouting to her friend "Here, I got one!". And then she got all huffy when a group of people descended on her and her friend to let them know that what they did was - and I am paraphrasing here - not cool. I imagine the experience for fursuiters is at least 10x worse, given the limited visibility and all. And a spotter cannot be everywhere at the same time. Having a custom made, one-of-a-kind costume worth thousands of $$$ damaged or ruined by someone who just wants some Instagram clout would probably make me punch them in the throat. And then there are those "creepy pervy dude" photog types that show up with a big-a$$ telephoto lens that would make a seasoned NatGeo photographer hang their head in shame, to snap pictures of other people's crotch or cleavage. You all might know the type I am talking about. When I am around I somehow manage to stumble into their frame... On one occasion I asked one guy if he would like a pack of tissues for later when I caught a glimpse of his camera display while he was flicking through his latest shots. Many were of a woman's cleavage while she was bending down to search for something in her bag. At least one other shot was of a woman's rear end while she was leaning across something. He scuttled off quickly. Later that day while chatting with a few people during a coffee break I learned from one of the cosplayers that this guy had been following her and her friends around all day up to that point. Wherever they went, he would show up, and at one point he made a very suggestive comment to one of them. Something about going to his place later and taking a few more pictures (including the wiggling eyebrows....ugh). The young woman in question said she felt like she needed a shower after that creepy guy went away after his advance. Never saw him again that day. Hope he was kicked out, since a few other people at the same table also said they remember him and were creeped out. Screw that guy. He is one of those giving everyone with a camera a bad rep. Sorry for the rant. But this really gets my blood boiling.
Ahhh soo you say Handler to a Fursuit-Spotter :D Good to know :3 i handled Fursuits for now 5 Years ^^ i will get my suit this year :3 In my experience, it's better to ask with gesture since sometimes it's hard to understand in suit ^^ like open your arms and so :) In Germany we call it "spotting" like in a gym the person who helps you :3
18:21 Unfortunately I actually am Super Self-Conscious and get Really Nervous when I am Behind people thinking that I am Following them even when I am not. I even lose track of what I was doing and then just Fall Apart and Run or Ignore them.
imagine if u ask a fursuiter if u can take a pic with them and they say no but then 2 seconds laters someone else asks them the same question and they say yes lol. just a funny lil scenario i thought about in my head. wonder if that happen before
At TFF 2020 (before Covid outbreak) I saw you in fursuit. I was only 13 and was really nervous to say hi so I didn’t. It’s one of my biggest regrets to this day, but since I saw you talking with other UA-camr furs I was really worried I’d be interrupting and decided to just go elsewhere.
I met my first fursuiter once my first one I met ever and they where the one to ask for me to hug and take a picture and I had a really good time I really didn't want to bother them it was just my first one I met so I left it at that saying that I am one also and that is where just about I left the handler I think took the picture of us
I think the biggest thing about going to cons is that you have to keep in mind that nobody has any obligations to you, you shouldn't expect anything from anyone except basic decency, being there is a privilege. Everyone there, no matter how popular, is a private person with their own right to privacy.
that over half of this video is about consent is kinda sad but also good. and if i was in the position of handler for a fursuiting friend of mine you better ask for consent or you might bounce off the floor, and if any bad touch is involved you will bounce hard and charges will be pressed
One time i was as an anime con in fursuit a security guard at the con pet me without asking first and it was the worst. Neither I nor my handler knew what to do and it felt so violating
Never gone to a con, so feel free to disagree or answer negatively. When you see someone in fursuit fainting in hallways or similar, it's okay to try to remove the fursuit head, even of the risk to damage it, or it's better to ask someone who is more experienced? Just a curiosity
That would be different, if they collapse it is important to remove any piece of clothing necessary (e.g fur suit) to perform the necessary first aid. if they collapse just and hit the floor, be very careful and only move them if there is an imminent danger such as a fire. Any other thing such as removing the suit is not a good idea as they could have a neck injury so its best to leave them until professionals ( eg paramedics ) arrive, because they know how to deal with potential neck injuries and have the equipment to help with it. Edit: I am not an expert.
@@FowlorTheRooster1990 Thanks, I didn't know this rule; now I know how to act in a sitution like that (hopeful I'll never need to put these information in act)
I’ve never seen a fursuiter in person, so I will use these tips if I see one. I must ask to give any type of pets, must be respectful, and must stay away if needed.
That place is for furries that need to cool down and not pass out. So it'd probably be best to keep out people who don't need to be there. Not tryna be rude, but it would be annoying if you were trying to go in there to cool down and a bunch of people who don't need to are taking up space.
When I deal with people I don't know well, people pleaser all the time If I bother anyone, just tell me I'm a bit chicken or defensive sometimes due to how I associate it as the way I was talked to (demanded) I be, do _____ by other people who are hard to please or, rather were If this is relatable, lmk
BETA HELP! How do i convince my moms (yes moms i have lesbian parents) that me being a furry isn’t some “sexual fetish thing” because we have gotten into screaming matches before when i tried to tell them id like to make a fursuit or something like that probably a partial or id like to commission someone to do so cuz i don’t have the faith in myself to make it good, BUT they wont pay attention to me or listen and take into account what im trying to tell them when i tell them its just a hobby and i really like the art and creativity and support in the furry fandom, also looking at the fact that I AM STILL A MINOR i am not even close to interested in what they think me wanting to be a furry is, anyways i want to go to the anthrocon block party in July(which would be my first con and i live like a little more than a half an hour drive from Pittsburgh and where the block party will be taking place) but idk how to tell them/ask them without getting into a huge fight again:^
Unfortunately, if your parents aren't willing to listen to you and you're a minor, there's not much you can do. You can try sending them cute fursuiting videos (Telephone and Sherbet are good options, the former due to amazing and adorable character acting and the latter due to the different things he does in suit) or good, informative articles about the fandom, but that's about it. I will say that getting a fursuit before you've stopped growing is a terrible idea, that's potentially several grand down the drain when you inevitably outgrow it. If you do end up getting one, get a partial.

Forgive me for my ignorance I've never been to a convention. But judging from this entire videos meets are... the worst? Your either there with a fursuit, miserable, hot, crowded, and maybe even harassed. But if you DON'T have one your more than likely being an issue to someone who IS in a fursuit. Don't take this the wrong way I'll practice each and everything in this video if I ever do go to a convention however I'm worried I'm gonna be a problem to every suiter there just for them being swarmed. And even if you aren't doing that your not exactly in the right space since everyone else will be. All over the suiters. So either the attention is on you, and your having the worst time of your life, it's not on you and your being an issue, OR its not on you and your sitting there alone thinking why tf I even came here if everyone just cares about fursuits. It's no wonder people think you need a fursuit to be a furry. Without one your irrelevant?
hey, i got info for you, i was playing hearts of iron and browsing the workshop for new mods and stumbled upon a furry mod for hearts of iron that takes the leader portrait of the countries in the game and turns them into anthropomorphic versions. i mean i also saw a mod that turned hitler into an anime woman but i don't play that way.

Aw, then it was not you as I was not in puerto but damn. It was the first time I ever seeing a fursuiter up close. Even I did not get to see your fursuit, its awsome!
@@supabonkers4life949 Well that's alright it's still so nice you got to meet your first fursuiter irl! ^^
I kinda froze up idk, it was a weird situationl.
do not scritch (scratch) fursuits it can cause messed up fur and/or bald spots. most fursuiters will say no
How about head pats?
Sometimes I unknowingly follow someone around if I want to ask for something but my social anxiety kicks in and I have to think about it for 30 minutes.
And this is why certain people come off as creepy despite not actually being a problem...
Same for me.
Great informative video, and yes please do that comprehensive list of fursuiting etiquette, that would be helpful for any new furries.
May I add two more notes onto the list:
(1) Don't approach a fursuiter with a dirty hand or food on your hand.
These kinds of people make me question if I should actually get a suit one day
TFF 2022 was my first furry convention I ever went to. It was so great meeting you there.
Generally one handler is allows I’m a headless lounge per suiter!
Am so sorry you had to experience that, it sound discussing that people can behave this way. Is not your fault, they should know better.
@@michasinpan8224 thanks for the kind words :D
Kinda sus when you minor lets some stranger pick you up.
@@mechamicro I didn't let him? He just came up to me and did that. I had no say in this (and believe me I wish I had).
9:16
I know but my my anxiety and overthink will just completely take over at that point. Of course I won’t question the decision, but I’d definitely get into this mindset of I need to say sorry and I’m being annoying and shouldn’t have even asked.
20:14 "Don't hover around them" Yeah, that would be extremely creepy if people started hovering mid-air around you.
But it’s sad that people still don’t get treated the way they should
Honestly, this is a really good reality check! I'm hoping to go to a con sometime in the future, and these are appreciated to know!
everything in this is so true.
Meanwhile me over here worrying I broke any of these rules at anthrocon this year when I was literally too anxious to talk to anyone 😂
Thank you, this needed to be said it’s never personally happened to me but I see a lot of people complain about this on furry Twitter, and both furries and normies need to know this.
Thank you I almost got kidnapped at TFF because people are creepy
Excuse me???
@@punyr yes I was almost kidnapped because someone would not let me go and was trying to drag me somewhere
@@aether7508 that's terrifying, how did you managed to escape from the person trying to drag you somewhere?
@@jeromejomon9311 i had the best distraction I could ever hope for, I ran into telephone
@ManaCloak yep
Me with social anxiety: *Hey, that's maverick over there, should I ask him to boop him?*
Also me: "Shit, he looked at me for .2435 seconds, let me turn around and go real quick."
My rule of thumb is don't acknowledge it other than a compliment at least until you get a sense of how they feel about contact
Knowing my reactions, when I was younger, to being touched from behind... I really hope I don't end up decking anyone when I'm in fursuit. Or kicking.
Bata your good at talking to audience and your not at all condasending and always very informative ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ahhh soo you say Handler to a Fursuit-Spotter :D
Good to know :3 i handled Fursuits for now 5 Years ^^ i will get my suit this year :3
In my experience, it's better to ask with gesture since sometimes it's hard to understand in suit ^^ like open your arms and so :)
In Germany we call it "spotting" like in a gym the person who helps you :3
Thanks for the helpful advice beta! I needed it!
I agree foxy, also what you doing here?
A fursuiter at a convention is Not a character in Disneyland . So don't act like a spoiled 5 year old .
I remember seein ya talking at the opening, hope ya had a good time
As a new suiter. I am learning alot
18:21 Unfortunately I actually am Super Self-Conscious and get Really Nervous when I am Behind people thinking that I am Following them even when I am not. I even lose track of what I was doing and then just Fall Apart and Run or Ignore them.
so, i ask for hug, and people think im a good person?
AYO POG
imagine if u ask a fursuiter if u can take a pic with them and they say no but then 2 seconds laters someone else asks them the same question and they say yes lol. just a funny lil scenario i thought about in my head. wonder if that happen before
Ohhh I'd feel defeated
Good lord I'm not even a fursuiter and I'm relating to this O~O
Watching this because I’m hoping to see a fursuiter at pride 🤞
I hope this video blows uuuup! ❤️
The advertisement I get before this is 44 minutes long and it says watch this "short" presentation
As a new furry who has never been to a con and wants to get a suit, this is very helpful
that over half of this video is about consent is kinda sad but also good. and if i was in the position of handler for a fursuiting friend of mine you better ask for consent or you might bounce off the floor, and if any bad touch is involved you will bounce hard and charges will be pressed
Yeah probably should help if the person is having somekind of a heatstroke
That would be different, if they collapse it is important to remove any piece of clothing necessary (e.g fur suit) to perform the necessary first aid. if they collapse just and hit the floor, be very careful and only move them if there is an imminent danger such as a fire. Any other thing such as removing the suit is not a good idea as they could have a neck injury so its best to leave them until professionals ( eg paramedics ) arrive, because they know how to deal with potential neck injuries and have the equipment to help with it.
Edit: I am not an expert.
@@FowlorTheRooster1990 thanks, I'm not a paramedic, so I'll probably try to call someone who knows better how to rescue people
@@FowlorTheRooster1990 Thanks, I didn't know this rule; now I know how to act in a sitution like that (hopeful I'll never need to put these information in act)
Well that was descriptive lol that social battery sounds like it could use replacement.
I do get why you dont just want to touch you want to ask. its like getting into somebody's car with out asking.
I had an experience of walking around at a con and someone shoved a phone infront of me and took a picture I nearly tripped
Just got my partial and my first con with it is coming up soon so i have no idea what to expect.
I’ve never seen a fursuiter in person, so I will use these tips if I see one. I must ask to give any type of pets, must be respectful, and must stay away if needed.
Non-furry here. Why can't we hang out in the headless lounge?
That place is for furries that need to cool down and not pass out. So it'd probably be best to keep out people who don't need to be there. Not tryna be rude, but it would be annoying if you were trying to go in there to cool down and a bunch of people who don't need to are taking up space.
its a fursuiter only area to cool off
my thoughts on this vid: *furry with a gun, furry with a gun*

Thanks, this is really helpful information.
Your fire hazard thing was great as a wheelchair user furry it’s a nitemare
Here's one for the list. Don't approach a fursuiter from behind
That is creepy. Don't do that
Seriously. They can’t see you, they’ll probably whack you with something thinking you’re trying to assault them.
ahhh yes the furry convention where people with personal space issues meet up to goof around in cool suits
When I deal with people I don't know well, people pleaser all the time
If I bother anyone, just tell me I'm a bit chicken or defensive sometimes due to how I associate it as the way I was talked to (demanded) I be, do _____ by other people who are hard to please or, rather were
If this is relatable, lmk
@ManaCloak i feel that. But most convention are better safe after 18+ due to lots of fuk up thing happend recently
Carpets are not capable of consent
Wonder park movie has furries.
you BE SILENCED MY BRUDDAS!? I can Only SILENCED THEM BECAUSE ARGHARGHARHH!

I really like your channel ^w^
This is out of nowhere but can you do adastra?
If i went fursuiting id bring my mother a my handler she doesn't give a shit nor will she take it, shes the type to call you out without feeling bad
