Then we got screw on metal fins in front of them to do the bug flow and the wings back to air. 1952 Woody fire engine Red. Wonderful car. Bought new.
I like the way you did your test and adding the raker tweak. Thanks, That was very interesting. I did a similar test with the new Husky X-Cut chain on a 550XP MK2, a 550XP with a 21 Chain and a Stihl261CM with a new factory chain. May not seem like a technically good comparison but I have compared the saws previously and they are exceptionally close. I may repeat it like you did with just one saw and changing the chains. The X-Cut chain was a little faster and noticeably smoother cutting. I've never officially checked the hardness of different brands. That will be an interesting next test but I have a bunch of cutting to do before I can get to that. What I see from most of this is that in real life work, I probably add more variability to the cut time than the chain does. Thanks for your videos. Love em!
Ok I’m jealous. I can’t even sharpen a friken chain tried for 3 hrs told my wife I failed the woodsmen test. But I can do concrete work. Lol. Thank friend love you’re videos 🙏🙏🙏
I switched from Stihl to Oregon chains. Reason being is that I bought a new Stihl chain for my saw and went to a job. I get there and I run out my old chain as long as possible. I ran the file over it a little and ran it some more. The cutting was getting slow enough that I unboxed my new chain and put it on the bar. I should say, tried to put it on the bar. There were four links that were a different color on the chain. These links were much thicker than the rest of the chain. So thick that they would not slot into the bar. I couldn't run it. It was as if someone broke the chain, replaced the links with thicker links and sold it to me as if it were new. I popped into a chainsaw dealership, the closest to me at the time, and all they had were Oregon chains. I bought one for half what the Stihl chain cost me and I haven't looked back.
Hey Buckin'.... I used a RSK Super on my MS 460 Magnum.... supposedly a little more aggressive and speed. I noticed a difference immediately. Stihl chains are awesome
@@markenda1 I get them from my local dealer in Upstate NY. I did exactly like Buckin' did... a quick file of the rakers... but its aggresive to begin with and a bit dangerous if you dont know what you are doing. Lookup Sherwood's Power Equipment... Newburgh NY

Great test! We all understand that in any cutting operation, friction is the enemy. Perhaps some comparisons with a temp gun along some spots maybe helpful. Most of us know that point where it is time to stop cutting, fill lube, refresh edges before continuing to cut. I would be curious if the larger Stihl tooth produced more or less friction. Keep up the good work!
I gotta tell ya Buckin, that the footage in the truck was the best part for me. Took me back to when my grandad had an old Chevy truck, and passed it down to my dad. I didnt get it but I had one of the same vintage, late 70s. Looking at the inside of the truck, listening to the motor, watching you mess with the vent window (those were the best, i miss them) all took me back to a great time in my youth. Thanks.

I've always run stihl chain on all my saws, Oregon chains seem to be a softer metal and need filing more often, archer chain doesn't seem to bad.. Welcome new subscribers :) great comparison.
I feel like they grind the stihl chain weird always cuts better after first filing for me I agree on Oregon being softer I personally like it ez filing
We always called the little windows the quarter glass , don't see them too often on modern cars . The old landrovers and landcruisers had a vent down in the footwell , plenty of cooling breeze on the legs with those open :-)
that's interesting. when I was growing up around cars those were known as wing windows on pickup doors and quarter glass would be the rear side windows on a 2 door car. Or the rear most side windows on some 4 door cars.
OMG...triangle windows!! I haven't used those since I was a teen workin' for my dad. Thanks for the memory!! Seems like I'll be gettin' the Oregon chains next go-round. Love and Kindness.
Thank you root rot Ron for letting Buckin come over and do tests like this! Thanks Buckin awesome test I sure thought the Stihl would’ve been the faster one, very interesting! Thanks again, love this channel brother!👍
Glad you finally made this video! Personally I have always favored Stihl chain but I’ve run Oregon too. Stihl just hold a better edge for me. Love to you and the family❤️
I dont like the way stihl chains are sharpened at the factory, the gullet is not round, and they have a little bump before the lower part of the gullet. I believe it slows the wood discharge. It makes wood chips plug inside the gullet. I find that stihl chains cut the best on the first sharpening, when you get the nice smooth semi-circle shaped gullet, and the teeth are the highest because it's still new. What I like about Oregon chains is that the angle the cutting teeth have is not as dropped backwards as the stihls, so they will keep a bigger gutter through the chain's life, while stihl chains get smaller and shorter when sharpening compared with the oregon. Sorry for my bad english, cheers from Argentina 💪💪
Phroden Dekia you like about oregon dull a lot and have to tighten them all the time poor quality thats why they are cheap. Stihl chain is far superior to Oregon and other brands i have run all of them
@@Wanous-hv7zo Yes, you have to compare Stihl chains against top of the line Oregon. Blount makes different quality chains, so you have to pay attention to which chain your dealer gives you when you ask for an Oregon chain.
In my opinion stihl chain is best I use them both. Stihl stays sharper long due to being a harder tooth, downfall cost and files have to be hard and new. The Oregon is cheaper so I use it for flushing stumps and fence rows.
Yup. I've been buying Stihl chain (from Madsen's for many years. Always 100 feet reels. Square filed full comp, semi-skip and full skip..for all bar lengths. Plus, Stihl is the only mfr that I know of that sells chisel chain for the small saws .375 Picco..... Stihl is also pre-stretched, another bonus. I hand file with a chisel file, as I don''t own a square grinder...but the files are expensive and the process is slow and not easy. So, I switch to using a round file sooner or later as the cutters get worn.
Stihl stays sharper a bit longer, but you can't get nearly as good of a grind on it. They burn too easy with a grinder and the Oregon chain gets a much sharper edge. I fell timber for 10 years in Oregon, and used both, and my favorite was Oregon full comp chain ground on a Simington grinder. I never used any chain right out of the box, they cut like shit! Take the Oregon rakers down to the line on them and they cut like a beast! I would rather use a chain that cuts a lot faster and have to change it a bit sooner than a chain that cuts slower but never gets dull. Changing a chain is so quick and easy. There was a significant difference in the speed of a ground Oregon chain versus the Stihl chain. Sometimes I would get a good grind on a Stihl chain, but I ALWAYS got an excellent grind on Oregon chain, every time! Way more consistent. The Stihl chain was much more hit or miss, the hardness made it much harder to get every tooth perfect.
@@toms.6123 I didn't file, I used a grinder because it is far superior to filing. It is not even close. Unless you have used chain done on a quality grinder, then the filed chain might feel just fine. But if you have used a well grinded chain, you will find there is no comparison. And on a grinder, the Oregon chain got a much better edge than the Stihl chain. For the average Joe cutting firewood and hand filing, Stihl chain might be fine. For a professional falling timber and using a grinder, it simply is not as good.
I just bought a new roll of Oregon chain yesterday, and this video popped up today. Phone is always listening. ;) I put my grind on them before I even run them so their grind doesn’t matter much to me, but it’s interesting to see that the Stihl chain had longer teeth. Thx for the info man!!
Buckin" I believe the Oregon chain has the off-set rakers, they call it "Low Vibration" The Oregon was a good bit faster. It would be interesting to see which chain held it's edge the longest. Probably no way to test it but you would be able to tell I am sure. Paul from Texas
Im a pro timber faller up here in the pacific northwest. This is my 20th year. I log in an area northeast of mt st helens and we still have ash in the bark of our trees 40 years later. We all run oregon chain here because it stays sharper far longer. I can run two square ground oregon chains per day here, change to a new chain at lunch. I tried out stihl chain, and had to touch up my chain with a file 3-6 times per day on top of swapping chains at lunch. I regret buying a 100' loop of stihl chain. I ended up just giving the rest of it away. Oregon is the way to go.
Raise the saw with The weight on TIP of the BAR, screw in chain tensioner. Wahoo easy shortcut, Great Tip. That was cool how you fast-forward the video, wow shifting gears in the truck.. "vent windows"..
Love that you run huskies, my first experience with huskies (medium) saw 272 was my favorite saw! Real deal! Sure they run hot on the hand, however speed is everything when you stand in gaffs. Love your videos!
Hey buckin thanks for doing that was awesome. I was wondering about that my self . I have run Oregon chain for yrs . I've run some stilh chain when I can't get the Oregon. But I have noticed that the Oregon holds an edge better and a lot longer than stilh. Which means less filling for me .😁👍. Loving the videos .keep it ripping.
They are definitely one of the hardest and the biggest tooth chains on the market. I run the MS 460 Magnum with tune and dual port muffler. I run a RSK 33 (Rapid Super Kut) more aggresive... Buckin' looks to be using a standard RS chain. My saw is a beast with the RSK chain. Cuts harder and faster than a standard Stihl chain.

Love em!
Very interesting comparison! Thx!
Ok I’m jealous. I can’t even sharpen a friken chain tried for 3 hrs told my wife I failed the woodsmen test. But I can do concrete work. Lol. Thank friend love you’re videos 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Root Rot Ronny 😀😀❤️❤️ We really appreciate you letting Buckin do all the testing at your place.
I do like your videos. I favorited your video on sharpening saw chains. You have a very upbeat and positive nature about you! Be well my friend.
Thanks Ron.. root rot Ron😂. Great video Buckin. Always thought Oregon was a better chain. Be safe and have a good rest of the weekend ✊
I filed the rakers like you did.... throwing chips like crazy....
Where do you get your RSK at? My dealer says that Stihl doesn't have it listed anymore, despite it being in the latest Stihl catalog.
@@markenda1 I get them from my local dealer in Upstate NY. I did exactly like Buckin' did... a quick file of the rakers... but its aggresive to begin with and a bit dangerous if you dont know what you are doing. Lookup Sherwood's Power Equipment... Newburgh NY
@@markenda1 I believe its RSK 33.... big difference from the standard RS chain. Bad ass sawchain

Started watching your videos today. Fell a 70’ pine that was close to my house that was blocking a lot of sun. I love the videos. Great job! Picked up a Husqvarna 460 Rancher and I love it I definitely learned a few things. I plan on cutting a couple more down and splitting them myself.

G’day buckin just discovered your channel last night and can’t stop watching your an absolute classic someone I like to have as a friend or mate as we say in Australia. Love your attitude towards life and people we share a lot of the same values. What lucky women your wife and two beautiful children are to have a dad like you. My moto is attitude makes the difference. I will be sure to watch all your vids can’t get enough stay cool and pray often his name is Jehovah love ya bro 🙏👍✌️
Thank you for sharing the awesome test. Also the old Mercury is looking and sounding good too. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.
Thank you "root rot" Ron, for letting us play, and thank you Buckin' for taking the time, to make videos for us. Love from Denmark
YOU BET
I gotta tell ya Buckin, that the footage in the truck was the best part for me. Took me back to when my grandad had an old Chevy truck, and passed it down to my dad. I didnt get it but I had one of the same vintage, late 70s. Looking at the inside of the truck, listening to the motor, watching you mess with the vent window (those were the best, i miss them) all took me back to a great time in my youth. Thanks.
I love Billy's short attention span! He's hysterically, easily distracted! 😊

Just another slam dunk of a video buckin! No surprise their. It's always educational, entertaining, and positive with you. Thanks for test and info on the chains brother.
This generation is going to have a hard time retiring the same way Ron has. Good for him though!
Those days are over, sadly. No one wants to work for anything, younger kids anyways, the businesses paid into the retirees pensions cause they earned it. Good luck getting these youngin's to have an ethic like the old timers.

@@greatgreengoblinbear3800 they do sharpen up nice, have you tried a carbide chain?
@@darrellashby6788 na IL have to look into it. I take it they stay sharp a long while?
@@greatgreengoblinbear3800 not really sure, I've been thinking about trying one out myself.
Great video buckin. Good to see the comparison. Hello to you, your family and everyone on the channel. Have a great weekend everyone. Curt.
Here's a cheer for Root Rot Ron from a fellow fisherman! Awesome boat and picnic table.
Or the rear most side windows on some 4 door cars.
wow what a hoot that was a super fun vid!!!!!!! positive vibes from northern wisconsin! !!!!
That’s a gorgeous fishing boat Buckin’. Tell Ron I said congrats on it. And thanks for thinking of us. Big 👍 up from Michigan.

OMG...triangle windows!! I haven't used those since I was a teen workin' for my dad. Thanks for the memory!! Seems like I'll be gettin' the Oregon chains next go-round. Love and Kindness.
I like it to, your enthusiasm is infectious.
Thank you root rot Ron for letting Buckin come over and do tests like this! Thanks Buckin awesome test I sure thought the Stihl would’ve been the faster one, very interesting! Thanks again, love this channel brother!👍
When a person doesn't let brand or politics cloud there tests.. the test are most accurate. I like how he done that.
Thank Ron and great video buck and it end a big question in my mind. Thanks again
Beautiful place Ron, beautiful boats 👍, good show Billy 😬❤️👍
Great video, like your truck too. And NO foul words! God bless.
Your English is way better than most native English speakers in the U.S.
I don't now why this is so interesting. I can't stop watching mesmerizing. 😯
In my opinion stihl chain is best I use them both. Stihl stays sharper long due to being a harder tooth, downfall cost and files have to be hard and new. The Oregon is cheaper so I use it for flushing stumps and fence rows.
Agreed
@@twowheelsdown2002 I never had any problem filing a stihl chain to it's maximum performance, far exceeding any other chain on the market
Go Ron! Love the fishing vessels. To nice to be called boats. Fishing is the best way to relax.

I just bought a new roll of Oregon chain yesterday, and this video popped up today. Phone is always listening. ;) I put my grind on them before I even run them so their grind doesn’t matter much to me, but it’s interesting to see that the Stihl chain had longer teeth. Thx for the info man!!
You’re having fun, loving it! Attitude matters.
Love wing windows. Built-in AC! I love that old ford truck to my friend. Very nice!
Thanks Ron for putting up w/the Buckin Army and allowing us to visit!!

Raise the saw with The weight on TIP of the BAR, screw in chain tensioner.
Wahoo easy shortcut, Great Tip. That was cool how you fast-forward the video, wow shifting gears in the truck.. "vent windows"..
Love truck talk and fast forward haha
Love that you run huskies, my first experience with huskies (medium) saw 272 was my favorite saw! Real deal! Sure they run hot on the hand, however speed is everything when you stand in gaffs. Love your videos!
He runs everything really lol
Shouldve done a plunge cut to see which one buries up to dogs 1st
Hey buckin thanks for doing that was awesome. I was wondering about that my self . I have run Oregon chain for yrs . I've run some stilh chain when I can't get the Oregon. But I have noticed that the Oregon holds an edge better and a lot longer than stilh. Which means less filling for me .😁👍.
Loving the videos .keep it ripping.
Always liked Oregon but Stihl seems like a little harder steel
I agree
They are definitely one of the hardest and the biggest tooth chains on the market. I run the MS 460 Magnum with tune and dual port muffler. I run a RSK 33 (Rapid Super Kut) more aggresive... Buckin' looks to be using a standard RS chain. My saw is a beast with the RSK chain. Cuts harder and faster than a standard Stihl chain.
