Brings back so many happy memories in the s20 two stroke, not many could keep up with it on the motorway when she got going, sadly so many old boys and their good old Foden girls have passed into history very sad

I doubt many people, including who posted the video , would know that in the first photo taken at Brian Paterson of Aberargie, the 3rd Wagon in from left is the same Wagon at 01:38 and was originally bought by D. Mackintosh & Sons of Blairgowrie in 1987. I know this as I drove her in the early 90's while I was employed there. One of the sons, Brian drove it from new and then I had it. They eventually sold it to Paterson's who took the Cat engine out and replaced it with a Cummins. It was then restored by the company in the latter picture. She was a great lorry and I'm glad she's been kept on the road.

I love Foden's. My Dad drove them in the 70s to early 90s before retirement. I used to love going for a ride with him from the quarry around South Wales. In the mid 80s his boss had a brand new haulmaster 8 wheeler with a rolls Royce 320. Huge engine for the time,,,,,beautiful,,,

I owned and operated an late 70ts early 80 Foden with 180 Gardner i hated it with a passion slow and freezing in the winter the only other vehicle i owned and hated more was air cooled VW

@@robertsmith9810 I love the old Gardner 180 it’s the noise and smell of my childhood But it was slow lol. The Rolls powered Foden’s Volvo’s and the subsequent newer Cat powered Foden’s were all more powerful and faster but the old Gardner kept going. But I loved the 320 Rolls powered Foden

@@hiraeth2007 When i ran the Foden the the 12 speed gearbox was its saving grace
it was an 8x4 tarmac spec we was running tarmac to Vaxhalls testing ground nr Amptill and surfacing the mile straight i was reversing in overdrive untill a wiser older driver said their is two thing you must not do with the Foden reverse only in low gear and never let the engine over ref going down hill or you could end with the engine going backwards And the Leylend Constuctor was out with the roller 264 so the foden had to go as the other drivers were flying by the old Foden so i became layland man later Daf i did have a Foden Daf
cabbed demo truck but i did not like the rubber suspension on the Foden their is another story comes to mind with driving Gardner powered Fodens down hill i loved my time driving trucks over the years

Alan percival my father had his own Mickley mouse 8 legger our garage was on crawleyside Bank Stanhope there was no sound to match Redmire 2 strokes on there way to consett the Ford was handy but there is a steep hill if drivers used brakes instead of crawler gears brake drums would get really hot then crack in the water

At -3.03 the Foden recovery vehicle is an ex UK Department of Transport snowplough gritter used on motorways and trunk roads in the 1980s. Passed my class 2 Hgv test driving one in 1984.

Slater Transport at 10.53. I think it could be crossing the ford at Stanhope, it was a short cut to Frosterly quarry. They used to run limestone to Consett steel works. I worked as an owner driver for them 1968-72. The happiest working days of my life.

Not the best loved lorry to drive, as I stated in a previous video that you showed.. But they did the work, as long as they didn't breakdown... And the foden I drove was definitely jinxed...

this a story about a long departed Foden owner driver Lionel Bradshaw who was fearless he was a chain smoker must have have nerves of steel and well over 60 the way he handled Alice as he named her all the drivers were sitting in the plant canteen waiting to be loaded and lionel said how he was tought by his father how to change gear with only thunb and finger never force the stick and allways go down the hill in the same gear as you go up the hill in he said a lone voice piped up even you lionel cant climb a hill in neutral and then he went on to tell us how he used a dog leash you have it tied to the cab roof down to the governors and on a hill you pull the governors open to increase power you use a dog leash so as you can unclip in a hurry if you was pulled up for excessive black smoke Of cause he did blow the gardener up happy days

Hard to believe that the majority of these solid vehicles no longer exist.
