They there in several licks on the album that feel like Queen riffs. Their sound has evolved, while maintaining the prog rock feel.

Completely agree with your take on the beginning. That vocalist was James Young, who usually gets one song on a CD. The primary vocalists are Tommy Shaw and Lawrence Gowan, who replaced Dennis DeYoung. The new album is great, but takes a few listens before you really get it. The first songs is a little 70s rock opera campy for me, but after that I thoroughly enjoy it. You'll hear a lot of influences including Yes, Queen, Boston, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and of course some vintage STYX as well. I love that these guys are in their 60s and still creating new music.

This album and their previous album The Mission are both fantastic. The lead singer at the beginning of the song is James JY Young. In their heyday JY would sing lead on one or two songs on a Styx album. On Equinox he sang Midnight Ride. On The Grand Illusion JY sung Miss America etc... On Paradise Theater he sang the intro to Snowblind which kind of sounds like this. JY can sing very low. Styx was unique in that they had and still have 3 lead singers. Back in the day it was Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw & James JY Young. Now it's Tommy Shaw, Lawerence Gowan and James JY Young. Check out this entire album. It's brilliant! Thank you for playing and reviewing this track.

Check out Isle of Misanthrope by Styx former front man Dennis DeYoung. His album came out the week before Styx's. They are both fantastic...but IoM has some of the most classic poetic proggy Styx goodness in existence.

You cannot judge (or properly react) to any song by stopping it throughout. It makes no sense to attempt to understand a SONG by stopping and discussing pieces.
