I am 75 years old and collected coins primarily in 8th grade and freshman in high school; 1960-1961. I own a few proof sets. My best is a 1960 small date my aunt bought for me for $3 at a big coin store in Chicago. They had just been released. I later learned I could buy them directly for $2.10. I am living in the Jurassic era. I always thought it was sacrilegious to break open a set. I remember seeing a proof quarter somewhere in a 2x2 cardboard holder and feeling depressed that someone destroyed a perfectly good collectible. LOL
SHAWN , I LOVE THE 50s &60s PROOF SETS ! I RECENTLY PURCHASE A 1957 1/2 $ FRANKLIN GRADED BY NGC FOR $300.00.WHEN I VERIFIED MF CERTIFCATION # THEY SHOW THE 1957 FRANKLIN GRADED 69 VALUE @ $600.00
I just inherited a collection that has a 1950 and a 1951 “Mint” set with a complete set from each Mint (Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco) I can not find anything else like it online. Any Ideas where to off-load them? This is not my hobby, but I would rather not be taken advantage of, One dealer in my hometown has already tried.
Hey Jett, when did you get the 1955 and how much did you pay? I just bought some last week and I'm curious what prices were before 2018. Cheers mate and TIA.
completely agree...these sets are nearly 70 years old in perfect condition in some instances....the coins are gonna be a generation old in a few years...where can you find coins that will grade out near 70 that old? pretty tough its a no brainer.... too much short term thinking these days.....
Seriously, this guy is correct! This area of collecting has had gains. I am in the process of getting certified NGC and PCGS sets together! In the last 30 years the 1950 set with 51,386 mintage has gone from $250.00 to over 1K! I suggest 1950 to 1954 sets
well before I even watch the video I have to share that I am 66 and have to face the fact that we are mere mortals so I thought it'd be neat to have a set just commemorating the year I came to be and really that was the only reason for me, however I do think American work ethics and craftsmanship were much better in the past
I fully agree! I'm building certified PCGS and NGC proof sets from 1950 - 1964. The most expensive are the halves and the cents. Everything else is pretty reasonable. That 1958 set: That dime and it's toning is the most beautiful in the set followed by the quarter. Toss that hazy garbage of a nickel out of the 58 set all its doing is dragging the set appeal down! The 1954 set: again the nickel looks like a hazy business strike, toss it out!
I have a 1952 proof set still in the grey box in the original cellophane package stapled together and to get them graded they want to tear it apart and to me that ruins the whole value of of the originality what do you think sir
Thanks for the videos blue your a dependable fix for my Addiction of numismatics. I value what comes out of your mouth man I will definitely stay tuned and donate on a stream
What's your thoughts on taking them out and getting them graded because when you buy them in the magazines are not in the grey box tape taking them out and put them in plastic holders to me that just defaces the whole originality thing if you have time let me know please and thank you for the great video

Are these coins actually from 1958? Or do they just say that to make you want to buy them.
